The cover looks AI to me so I was super hesitant to get into this fearing that the writing would suffer the same but thankfully that wasn't the case. (There's a credit to the cover designer in the book but I didn't check to see their work. There's also a credit for the image shown in Chapter 1 and Chapter 11 but as of reading this on 10/24 those chapters didn't have any art for me on my Kindle or on my Kindle mobile app. 🤷♀️)
I actually went into this unaware that it was going to be singular POV something i'm actually glad of, I'm not sure I would've given it the chance since I prefer dual POV ( i'm nosy I want to know what both characters are thinking/feeling,lol) but in this case I was oddly okay with just being with Jasper.
This also didn't really feel like it should've been a contemporary romance? Like, Konrad felt TOO perfect, with his speech and waxing poetics, his fast devotion and love for Jasper, courting him and seeming to know right away that Jasper was his person. I was super here for it, seriously, instant devotion is my catnip but it's usually in stories with fated mates,paranormal stuff. I didn't hate it but there were several moments where Konrad seemed like maybe he was an alien from another planet or he was from a different time period but without all the clumsiness that comes from being in a new environment.
》It goes without saying that this is personal preference but Konrad being too perfect was a negative for me. I much prefer to read about non rich people falling in love. I almost said 'normal ' people but normal is also subjective and with all the alien/monster/non-human books I read that wouldn't be a fair statement,lol. It actually got to a point where I just stopped thinking of it as contemporaryand found myself enjoying it more without that constraint🤷♀️
Konrad was perfect at cooking, Konrad had a fancy house, Konrad had his own restaurant, Konrad traveled everywhere,Konrad knew multiple languages,Konrad upgraded Jasper's seat to first class - it might be the current state of the world bleeding into my reading tastes but I'm just so over extravagant things. 😬
》There's a few other niggles I had but overall this was a very enjoyable read. I worry this might be a bit too ' boring' for the general public but since i'm of a more niche variety this was definitely my cuppa tea.
♡Bonus points for the autism and anxiety descriptions being super relatable. For the endearments, I found it charming. For the ILYs shared during love making (you'd think with all the romance I consume there'd be a lot of this but there's not enough! Let me feel the love too not just the lust pls and ty) And lastly, for Jasper being the one to ask the question, it felt appropriate given Konrad really sees him as someone who hung the moon so it was really cute seeing Konrad be momentarily stunned speechless at the display. 🥺

This was such an overwhelming beautiful romance.
Did Not Finish
October 26, 2026When I read the blurb and saw the tropes, I was immediately sold. Autism rep, grief, a touch-starved MC?? Sign me the f up 🙂↕️ But sadly, this turned out to be a letdown. 🥲
If a book hasn’t given me _anything_ to hold on to by the 50% mark at the latest, I think it’s time to DNF it. And this one just didn’t.
By the time the main couple had already met several times and gone on dates, there should have been at least some chemistry or a little spark between them. But here? Absolutely nothing. Zilch. Nada. And it just went on like that for who knows how long. At some point, when their relationship became more intimate, things maybe improved a little, but only the tiniest bit.
Otherwise, it just felt like nothing was happening. Just the main couple going on dates and—sorry to say—having boring conversations?
Konrad’s character also felt kind of off to me. I couldn’t connect with him at all, and he didn’t even feel… real. I mean, I know book characters aren’t real, but you get my drift 💁🏼♀️
And in my opinion, the autism rep, grief rep, and the whole “MMC being obsessed” trope that the book was advertised with were pretty much nonexistent, at least in the first 50%. Of course, I don’t know what the second half had to offer, but at that point, I wasn’t interested enough to find out.
So unfortunately, this one ended up being a DNF. Not saying this is necessarily a bad book (therefore no rating), it just didn’t work for me.
On to other, hopefully better books! 📚

4.5 stars! This book was EVERYTHING! Konrad and Jasper were just so damn pure and they way they loved each other was beautiful. This book literally took my breath away several times with the wording of things, the way Konrad loved Jasper was just beautiful. Tbh the only reason I took off half a star is bc, and this is literally a ME PROBLEM, at times Konrad was just TOO PROPER! I feel it mostly bothered me during spicy scenes when I just wanted him to “let his hair down” 😂

Asa Violet is the kind of author that I want to be. I dream about having a mere fraction of his talent. Yes lol by all means clock my name and know that maybeee I have been known to write some smut from time to time. But the very way that Asa is able to weave such passion and FEELING and pure yearning achinglyyy sweet *romance* into a single moment of two characters sharing even just a simple conversation? Literally pure poetry. Gorgeous prose. Jesus effen Christ. Swooning everywhere and someone grab a mop 'cause I am a puddle. This entire book is watching two people fall in love, faults and all, every dark corner lit up until there is nothing left but pure adoration, and it is so, so very beautiful.
I've been a fan of Asa for a long time, friends for even longer than that, so obviously this review may come across as a bit (a lot) biased. But please consider that after reading but a tiny SAMPLE of what he is capable of? I am proud to say that I very lovingly harassed him to publish again and againnn until hey here we are. Because this kind of talent cannot be taught. It's not learning CMOS or how to format or about hanging modifiers or whatever. Being able to convey EMOTION and LOVE with a few clicks of a keyboard to such a degree that it is reaching through the screen and squeezing your heart is a gift and one I knew needed to be shared with the world.
This is a story I am going to think about for a long time. It is a story about love but it's not perfect in any fantastical crazy sense. It's about a person loving another just as they are, finding common ground (and kinks lol), and loving someone in the way they are MEANT TO BE LOVED. The sociolinguist/educator Sunn M'Cheaux has a fantastic discussion about being loved "in a gay way", tl;dr to be loved in a way that validates and truly affirms a person's identity. This is exactly what Konrad does for Jasper; he loves him in the way that Jasper needs to be loved -- patient, kind, and never asking for any compromise that detracts from who Jasper is as a human being or forces him to be less than he is. He loves Jasper for everything he is, faults and all, not in spite of them but because they are part of who he is.
It is not merely a romance of "oh hey look he hot". No, it's pretty much a meeting of souls, something beautiful and difficult and worth every step of the journey Asa takes us on watching them come together. And when they do? OH YES once we get goin' absolutely the smut is of course glorious but it feels more earned and extra sweet because of the emotional adventure we travel along to get to this point. It is raw, you might cry (I did lol), but you'll cry again with joy as everything fits right into place...
Right as it is meant to be.
Definitely check this out if you want a sexy and captivating romance. Let yourself be entranced by sweeping and emotional composition, gorgeous and hypnotizing writing, and yeah okay YES the smut is very hot when we get there ahahaaa. But SO MUCH of the hotness is because of the connection and the story Asa is able to frame this lovely relationship within. Just trust me. This is a story you do not want to miss.

This was my first book by this author and it will not be my last. This book was beautiful from the first word to the last. From the word building, to the character development, to the emotions this book brought. I could not put it down and when it was over I felt like I lost something vital.
Jasper isn't interested in relationships. He wants to tattoo, draw and be with his dogs. Enter Konrad. From the start Konrad makes it known that he is interested in Jasper. He is a walking green flag and the way he treats, the way he feels about Jasper is what so many people search for and not many find. Jasper fights it but when he stops fighting and let Konrad in, you can see that Jasper finds home. Konrad shows Jasper how he feels and in return Jasper lets him past the barb wire wrapped cactus field that protects Jasper.
This book had me smiling, laughing, brought tears to me eyes and working very hard to keep my face blank at the spicy scenes. The way this author wrote about Jasper and his autism was incredible. I loved how the autism was treated and thought that it was exactly what autism is. Konrad is such an old world soul and the way he speaks and dresses and acts is eloquent.
This book owns me heart and soul. I am not ready to let these boys or this story go.

When I say that I have no words to describe how this book made me feel, I mean it. This book was everything I didn't know I needed. The instant connection that Konrad has with Jasper and the fact that Jasper had no clue for a little bit, made me giggle and have those warm fuzzy feelings you should get when reading. I love that Konrad knew that Jasper was different, but never questioned anything, he just simply accepted Jasper as he was. I could relate to Jasper with a few of his quirks, so that made the reading journey even better. It was a beautiful representation for those that may think differently than others.
I liked that this was more on the fast paced side when it came to the spice. For me, it was the perfect amount of spice. Some of the scenes will live rent free in my head forever. I mean....
"Jasper shifted his grip to Konrad's back and dug his nails in gratefully. He was a rough lover. Not because he was sadistic, but because he got so overloaded with sensation that he had to let it out somehow. Pleasure made him feral."
Basically, this book is perfection and you need to read it. I will also be absolutely feral if this book gets an audio (especially with the right narrators)!

I think I’m too damaged for this book to truly hit the way it was supposed to 😅
This is a lovely story about a reclusive, autistic man who thinks he’s too unlovable to be in a relationship and he gets courted and loved by a sophisticated, European man who fell in love with him at first sight, is nothing but kind and patient, and never gives up on him.
The kicker: there IS no kicker!!!!!
Konrad loves Jasper DOWN and loves him the entire book. The other shoe doesn’t drop, he’s patient and loyal and devoted and that’s just how he is! He loves everything about Jasper and doesn’t want Jasper to compromise any part of himself to try and fit whatever mold he thinks Konrad would want him to.
And my damaged ass was freaking out this whole book because there’s no WAY. Genuinely, I kept waiting for Ashton Kutcher to pop out in a ball cap or the Impractical Jokers to be behind a curtain laughing their asses off. People don’t love like this!!! People don’t yearn like this!! People (men especially) aren’t soft and devoted and kind!!!!
A pal of mine (Hi, friend 🤭) on here wrote her own review and was able to say this a lot more eloquently than I can, but the gist is: men like Konrad don’t exist in real life, and it was definitely disconcerting to read a story where one does and he’s pretty much perfect in every way. And I have pros and cons about Konrad that I’ll get to in a moment.
As for the book itself, it’s very sweet. It’s a book that’s very character/relationship driven and not a lot of plot happens, and I think it works! If you’re a good reader and not a goose like me (🪿), you’d have read that this is a single POV, third person story. I did not read this because I was pulled in by the pretty cover and Hannigram vibes, so it took me a second to realize that this whole book is written from Jasper’s POV, and thank god for it!
Jasper is a really interesting character and I liked reading someone I could relate to. Konrad is fun as a love interest, but the way he talks in his dialogue (very poetic, dramatic, etc) would have gotten to be a LOT in the prose and probably would’ve grated on my nerves very quickly. Jasper is a good mix of cynical, with some dry humor, and insecure but not too down on himself. I could also relate to his backstory more than I could a son of a countess from Denmark with a dead sister (imagine that).
I liked Jasper doubting Konrad’s intentions for a lot of the book. Most of the time, that becomes grating, but because Konrad was so perfect (perhaps TOO perfect), I was also doubting him, so I’m glad some realism was there in that sense. It was nice to see that Jasper wasn’t just immediately falling for Konrad. He was intrigued and flattered, but he was also suspicious and on edge, as I am, too, when it comes to men.
And for the most part, I liked the story. I liked the supportive characters (though Hiyori did overstep in a big way that was played off as charming and helpful, but I found to be potentially dangerous if Konrad HAD turned out to be a creep, but he didn’t, so I suppose all is well 😒), I liked the cozy setting, and I enjoyed their romance.
But, if I’m honest, this romance and their dynamic lives and died with Jasper. If Jasper didn’t have his doubts and his suspicions and his abandonment issues, the romance would’ve been SO boring. All of the drama and tension (which is so, so little of it), stems from Jasper’s own insecurities and doubts. Jasper brings a fun dynamic to them and if he wasn’t the narrator, I think I would’ve been extremely bored. Their relationship was sweet, but it was, again, almost too perfect thanks to the Konrad of it all.
And that’s where I come in with my pros and cons for Konrad.
Let’s start with the pros:
He was romantic, patient, and kind with Jasper. He fell for Jasper pretty much at first sight and never let go of that devotion or his patience. He was charmed by Jasper’s personality and never wanted Jasper to change himself or make himself smaller. He made adjustments to himself to help Jasper and comfort him, sometimes with Jasper even having to ask. He was attentive and seemed to know what Jasper wanted/needed before even Jasper did.
It was really nice at times to read a romance where a character was so devoted and loving and kind.
(So Cia, where’s the problem???)
NO ONE LIKE THIS EXISTS. And yes, this is romance and it’s so nice to leave reality and live in a world where cultured, rich, European men dote on you hand and foot, but couldn’t Konrad have even ONE fault?
The entire book, he’s patient and sweet and loving and this never changes! Even when Jasper repeatedly doubts him or rejects Konrad or runs away, Konrad stays unflinchingly loyal and hopeful and perfect. He’s rich, he’s successful, has a gorgeous, huge home, opens a popular restaurant, immediately meshes with Jasper’s friends, etc. And while that’s all well and good, he’s so unrealistic, it was hard for me to relate to Konrad because he was so untouchable.
Hell, even the way he talked was so unlike how people actually speak. It was charming, at first, but it quickly became so far removed from my world (or hell, ANYBODY’S world), that it stopped being cute and became a little much.
I’ve read romances that I’ve adored where the characters are so perfect for one another and they have a wonderful romance, but both characters are flawed individuals. Jasper felt real and relatable, so I adored reading from his perspective and I liked him so much as a character. But I struggled with Konrad. I liked him because he treated Jasper so well, but if Jasper wasn’t in the mix, I would’ve DNF’d this book so fast.

This is a lovely story about a reclusive, autistic man who thinks he’s too unlovable to be in a relationship and he gets courted and loved by a sophisticated, European man who fell in love with him at first sight, is nothing but kind and patient, and never gives up on him.
The kicker: there IS no kicker!!!!!
Konrad loves Jasper DOWN and loves him the entire book. The other shoe doesn’t drop, he’s patient and loyal and devoted and that’s just how he is! He loves everything about Jasper and doesn’t want Jasper to compromise any part of himself to try and fit whatever mold he thinks Konrad would want him to.
And my damaged ass was freaking out this whole book because there’s no WAY. Genuinely, I kept waiting for Ashton Kutcher to pop out in a ball cap or the Impractical Jokers to be behind a curtain laughing their asses off. People don’t love like this!!! People don’t yearn like this!! People (men especially) aren’t soft and devoted and kind!!!!
A pal of mine (Hi, friend 🤭) on here wrote her own review and was able to say this a lot more eloquently than I can, but the gist is: men like Konrad don’t exist in real life, and it was definitely disconcerting to read a story where one does and he’s pretty much perfect in every way. And I have pros and cons about Konrad that I’ll get to in a moment.
As for the book itself, it’s very sweet. It’s a book that’s very character/relationship driven and not a lot of plot happens, and I think it works! If you’re a good reader and not a goose like me (🪿), you’d have read that this is a single POV, third person story. I did not read this because I was pulled in by the pretty cover and Hannigram vibes, so it took me a second to realize that this whole book is written from Jasper’s POV, and thank god for it!
Jasper is a really interesting character and I liked reading someone I could relate to. Konrad is fun as a love interest, but the way he talks in his dialogue (very poetic, dramatic, etc) would have gotten to be a LOT in the prose and probably would’ve grated on my nerves very quickly. Jasper is a good mix of cynical, with some dry humor, and insecure but not too down on himself. I could also relate to his backstory more than I could a son of a countess from Denmark with a dead sister (imagine that).
I liked Jasper doubting Konrad’s intentions for a lot of the book. Most of the time, that becomes grating, but because Konrad was so perfect (perhaps TOO perfect), I was also doubting him, so I’m glad some realism was there in that sense. It was nice to see that Jasper wasn’t just immediately falling for Konrad. He was intrigued and flattered, but he was also suspicious and on edge, as I am, too, when it comes to men.
And for the most part, I liked the story. I liked the supportive characters (though Hiyori did overstep in a big way that was played off as charming and helpful, but I found to be potentially dangerous if Konrad HAD turned out to be a creep, but he didn’t, so I suppose all is well 😒), I liked the cozy setting, and I enjoyed their romance.
But, if I’m honest, this romance and their dynamic lives and died with Jasper. If Jasper didn’t have his doubts and his suspicions and his abandonment issues, the romance would’ve been SO boring. All of the drama and tension (which is so, so little of it), stems from Jasper’s own insecurities and doubts. Jasper brings a fun dynamic to them and if he wasn’t the narrator, I think I would’ve been extremely bored. Their relationship was sweet, but it was, again, almost too perfect thanks to the Konrad of it all.
And that’s where I come in with my pros and cons for Konrad.
Let’s start with the pros:
He was romantic, patient, and kind with Jasper. He fell for Jasper pretty much at first sight and never let go of that devotion or his patience. He was charmed by Jasper’s personality and never wanted Jasper to change himself or make himself smaller. He made adjustments to himself to help Jasper and comfort him, sometimes with Jasper even having to ask. He was attentive and seemed to know what Jasper wanted/needed before even Jasper did.
It was really nice at times to read a romance where a character was so devoted and loving and kind.

NO ONE LIKE THIS EXISTS. And yes, this is romance and it’s so nice to leave reality and live in a world where cultured, rich, European men dote on you hand and foot, but couldn’t Konrad have even ONE fault?
The entire book, he’s patient and sweet and loving and this never changes! Even when Jasper repeatedly doubts him or rejects Konrad or runs away, Konrad stays unflinchingly loyal and hopeful and perfect. He’s rich, he’s successful, has a gorgeous, huge home, opens a popular restaurant, immediately meshes with Jasper’s friends, etc. And while that’s all well and good, he’s so unrealistic, it was hard for me to relate to Konrad because he was so untouchable.
Hell, even the way he talked was so unlike how people actually speak. It was charming, at first, but it quickly became so far removed from my world (or hell, ANYBODY’S world), that it stopped being cute and became a little much.
I’ve read romances that I’ve adored where the characters are so perfect for one another and they have a wonderful romance, but both characters are flawed individuals. Jasper felt real and relatable, so I adored reading from his perspective and I liked him so much as a character. But I struggled with Konrad. I liked him because he treated Jasper so well, but if Jasper wasn’t in the mix, I would’ve DNF’d this book so fast.

Okay well, I don't even know where to start. First of all, thanks to Asa Violet for giving me the opportunity ro be an ARC reader for this beautiful book. I am truly... speechless. I am not really used to romantic mmc's, I always read about morally grey characters who make questionable choices, but this? This book felt like a warm hug during winter and a safe place where to go when real life becomes unbearable. Jasper has a special place in my heart, he gave me comfort but also understanding. I felt less alone, because while reading I realized I wasn't the only one to feel in certain ways. Konrad is the best thing that could happen to someone like Jasper: patient, kind and willing to wait for Jasper's love. They say that to be loved is to be seen and this book is literally the meaning. Because Konrad doesn't only want Jasper, but he sees him, truly sees him. He sees under all his layers and behind every walls. He didn't try to kick down Jasper's locked door. He simply knocked and waited. Never pressured Jasper, always gave him all the time and space he needed. Reading this book felt like watching a movie you didn't truly want to end. Personally speaking, I didn't only read the book but I felt PART of it. Konrad and Jasper are two different yet very similar characters. They both know what it means to feel alone, like no one is coming to save you, love you, embrace you. But they handle the feeling differently. Jasper builds walls, Konrad waits for the person who could love him the same way he loves people: deeply. It honestly felt like they had secretly known each other forever, because they were like puzzle pieces that simply fitted perfectly together. It's more than a book, it's an invitation for all the Jasper's in the world who feel unlovable to believe that one day, whether platonically or romantically, someone will love them "for themselves or rather, is spite of themselves." It's an invitation for all the Konrad's in the world who feel lonely and without purpose, that life is gonna get better, it's gonna surprise you. Pain can live inside of you after you lose someone, but that pain doesn't define you. I also truly loved their reading times for Les Miserables, it felt cozy and domestic. Truly a beautiful book that deserves recognition.

EPIDERMIS was the swooniest of reads and I loved it! Was there a deep plot? No. But that's ok because the characters falling in love *was* the plot. This was just a simple story about two lonely men finding each other and a love to last a lifetime. Konrad was such a loverboy and completely smitten with the grumpy and reserved Jasper from the moment they met at Jasper's tattoo shop. Konrad had a mature and steady demeanor with a very European and refined way of speaking and while at first glance he's the complete opposite of grumpy and distrustful Jasper, they somehow still worked.
We only get Jasper's POV in EPIDERMIS so his character did feel a lot more developed than Konrad but I still felt like we knew a lot about Konrad's motivations, history, and thoughts. Jasper made a great narrator and his worries and fear of being abandoned by those he loved was so poignantly written. He doesn't want to trust Konrad at first but he can't seem to stay away, especially after things escalated on their trip to Vegas. I appreciated the way Konrad always supported Jasper and showed him through actions and words that he meant to stay and I also liked that communication was an important piece of their story.
While the relationship between Konrad and Jasper got very spicy it was also deeply tender and gentle and Asa Violet did an amazing job of showing the love and devotion between these two. Epidermis is absolutely enchanting. Jasper and Kondrad's love story is so simple and so pure. It uplifts you and makes you smile long after you've read the final page.

He sees him so clearly as he struggles with various situations - social anxiety, noise, over-stimulation and sensory overload. He makes no fuss or drama - he just quietly provides solutions. Overall, this was such a cute story! I loved watching Jasper grow, change, and slowly learn how to love konrad and let him in. The autism rep was also really well done, especially when it came to the struggles of navigating social situations. And Konrad was such a sweetheart! I loved how posh and proper he was, and together, he and Jasper really nailed the opposites-attract dynamic. The plot was solid, the pacing was good, and I never felt bored. If you’re a big fan of contemporary romance, I definitely think this one would be right up your alley!

A masterpiece
A story of someone always being abandoned and feeling like they’re never enough for someone or too much because of what they needed. That person finding someone who always made them feel like they’re more than enough, that their accommodations weren’t a burden and that they deserved to be loved. A story of grief, of trusting another human being after hurt and the beautiful love between them. Ugh, this was absolutely beautiful. I loved every single page.

THESE TWO ARE FUCKING AMAZING. Seeing Konrad be immediately fascinated and enamored with Jasper was a fucking delight. I kind of knew where the earring story was going by how he was still suffering with something through the book but to hear the full story was so damn heartbreaking, but also reading this line "And I was seated next to the first truly beautiful thing I had seen since Switzerland" "You had charcoal on your face and smiled like you weren't sure if you were doing it right. My sweet, feral boy. You put the needle through me and I would have razed all of Maryland to the ground to keep you."
The introduction to Anna? FUCKED ME UP. The speaking to her and asking for her permission/letting her know. FUUUUUUCK. ASA.
Like my GOD this man is such a green flag. I love how much he adores Jasper and understands he has anxiety and his own personal trauma that makes him keep everyone at a distance, and respects that all while trying to keep Jasper in his life in anyway that he'll allow him. How kind and understanding Konrad was, was so beautiful. The shirt and tarp? UGH. SO GOOD.
I knew Vegas and what happened there would end badly but I'm so glad it did. Jasper realized around this time how much he missed Konrad and UGH. IT WAS SO GOOD. Asa has this way of just sucking you into the story and while you want to ZOOM through the every single word to get to the good parts, you also sit there, anxiously waiting for all the good times to get here too!
Asa did mention that once the spice starts that spice be spicing and whew he was so right! These two are absolutely fire together and I'm so glad that the physical connection helped draw Jasper in even more.

I absolutely loved reading Epidermis by Asa Violet. This is a found family, age gap, opposites attract, sweet, low angst read about Konrad and Jasper. What an amazing storyline and I just loved the characters. A faultless read and I just absolutely loved it, can't recommend it enough.

"Epidermis" by Asa Violet is a cozy and contemporary MM romance between a tattoo artist, Jasper, and walk-in client turned business neighbor, Konrad.
Jasper hasn't been lucky in love and feels like he's too much and also not enough. He tries to keep Konrad at arms length, but the older gentleman is more than willing to play the long game and court him slowly.
Ratings:
Overall: 5/5 Hearts - This book is just so incredibly sweet and romantic. It gives me the same feeling as those regency era romances like: pride & prejudice and bridgerton. But it all takes place in the modern day.
Spice Quantity: 4/5 Peppers - I'm guessing spice is 35%ish of the page count. Or at least, it feels like it. Because once these two start sleeping together, they just can't stop.
Spice Quality: 5/5 - I am still a bit feral over some of the scenes in this book. Dominant Konrad is my absolute favorite thing, but Jasper topping while wearing a skirt... PHEW BOI. Hydrate please and sit under a fan while reading.
Plot: 4/5 -
- Storyline: This story is 100% romance. There's no big bad guy, natural disaster, or otherwise crazy situation. It's just a man falling in love, learning to trust, and realizing he's worth fighting for.
And by golly, I'm a sucker for a simple, romance-forward plot, so I'm a happy book girlie.
I do wish there was a bit more tension build up, like a feeling in my soul that forces me to keep reading despite the need to eat, sleep, and live life; but that's traded for a cozy vibe that I'm not mad at.
- Characters: I loved both of them. Jasper is the POV MC (3rd person) and I really loved how his neurodivergence was portrayed. He never feels young or "childish" and his over-stimulation comes across as incredibly reasonable. I loved that he learned to trust by the end of the book and that he realized his needs didn't make him "too much", he just needed someone willing to give more.
And then there's Konrad. We don't get any scenes in his POV and I thought that was a good decision. It kept a little mystery to him and really highlighted the things we do see: his poetic lines about love and beauty, the easy way he makes Jasper comfortable (just because he can), and his green-flag levels of determination to court the literal pants off of Jasper.
- Writing Style: The writing is really great. But I did find some areas to be a little hard to follow for me. There were also some inconsistent details that bugged me the tiniest bit.
Conclusion: This is a light, cozy romance that's perfect for lovers of regency era romances or fairy tales but want them modern and MM.

This was such an absolutely beautiful love story. It was emotional in a way that I genuinely felt what these characters were feeling, especially Jasper. I felt like I was legit in the book with them. There were so many moments where my heart just hurt for him because of that deep sense of abandonment he carried and the feeling that no one had ever really cared for him the way he needed.
And then here comes Konrad with his earring, completely changing Jasper’s entire world and his outlook on life. Also, just coming in, being exceptionally adorable.
Konrad was the caretaker of all caretakers. He was exactly what Jasper needed, but what I loved most was the way he gave Jasper the space to be vulnerable. He didn’t try to force anything out of him. He was there, and watching Jasper slowly realize that he was allowed to need someone, lean on someone, and actually be cared for was absolutely beautiful. Everything he did was so meaningful and done with purpose.
There are a lot of moments I want to talk about, but I don’t want to spoil anything. Just know I cried several times, especially when Jasper finally allowed himself to be vulnerable. Ugh, it was beautiful to read!!
The writing was amazing. The story was easy to follow, the pacing was done beautifully, and the emotions and tension built naturally throughout the book. Even the angst felt completely appropriate and didn't feel like too much. Everything flowed with the story. It honestly felt like I was reading about two men slowly falling in love while also dealing with the very real hurdles that come with being two people who have their own internal struggles but somehow find a way through them together. Nothing was forced.
And Konrad was hilarious, but he wasn't trying to be. The way this man spoke so matter-of-factly and eloquently about everything had me giggling. He brought so much lightness into the story without taking away from the emotional aspects of the story. The funny part is he was just being himself, as you can see from the quote I attached; he was just funny. I also loved all of the other characters we meet in this story, especially the nosy matchmaking ones lol.
Also, because this book is set in Maryland, I was over here every time a city was mentioned because I actually know where these places are. At one point I was like, Okay, but WHERE exactly does Jasper live that he’s making enough money as a tattoo artist to afford living that close to the NOVA border?! Because it costs a kidney up there, but then I was trying to figure out what county he was in lol. Again, irrelevant.
This was my first book by this author, and I loveeeeed their writing. If this is what I can expect from their other work, I’m absolutely looking forward to reading more.

There are a lot of moments I want to talk about, but I don’t want to spoil anything. Just know I cried several times, especially when Jasper finally allowed himself to be vulnerable. Ugh, it was beautiful to read!!
The writing was amazing. The story was easy to follow, the pacing was done beautifully, and the emotions and tension built naturally throughout the book. Even the angst felt completely appropriate and didn't feel like too much. Everything flowed with the story. It honestly felt like I was reading about two men slowly falling in love while also dealing with the very real hurdles that come with being two people who have their own internal struggles but somehow find a way through them together. Nothing was forced.
And Konrad was hilarious, but he wasn't trying to be. The way this man spoke so matter-of-factly and eloquently about everything had me giggling. He brought so much lightness into the story without taking away from the emotional aspects of the story. The funny part is he was just being himself, as you can see from the quote I attached; he was just funny. I also loved all of the other characters we meet in this story, especially the nosy matchmaking ones lol.
Also, because this book is set in Maryland, I was over here every time a city was mentioned because I actually know where these places are. At one point I was like, Okay, but WHERE exactly does Jasper live that he’s making enough money as a tattoo artist to afford living that close to the NOVA border?! Because it costs a kidney up there, but then I was trying to figure out what county he was in lol. Again, irrelevant.
This was my first book by this author, and I loveeeeed their writing. If this is what I can expect from their other work, I’m absolutely looking forward to reading more.

Holy guacamole, this was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever read. This should be required reading for dating. Pure romance 🌹 I couldn't keep the smile off my face or the tears from streaming.
I don’t think I was even 5% into the book when Konrad and Jasper swept me away. Not only because of how utterly and SICKENINGLY sweet Konrad is, but also because both characters were so interesting. And when I say Konrad is sickeningly sweet, hoo boy do I mean it. Konrad has ruined men for me. The way he immediately knew how to care for Jasper was lovely. He is patient, thoughtful, understanding, and a total green flag. The perfect gentleman in every way. And let's talk about Jasper for a moment, shall we? He is outstanding. The Autism rep was done so well and casually. It was kind of perfect. I loved his journey of accepting that he is worthy of love! He is not too much!!
And did I mention how SWOONWORTHY this book is?? Because it so is. POETRY. Most of the notes I took are literally just “holy shit,” “I’m going to vomit this is so cute,” or, quite simply, “asdfgdjdiwi;dneieib” because words escaped me.
“Be it art or people, I’ve laid eyes on marvels that are nearly impossible to put into words. I’ve had experiences you cannot imagine. And with all my knowledge, all that I’ve seen, nothing could have prepared me for you.”
“Right, because I’m sure you were so charmed when you met me.” Konrad held his face more gently now, his lips pulling into the faintest of smiles. He stroked his thumbs over Jasper’s cheekbones. “I was enchanted.”
Jasper was used to kisses feeling like a demand, but Konrad kissed like poetry.
"Let me be your home, Jasper. Let me love you until you forget what it is to be alone."
And for as sweet as the book was, it was also SO deliciously spicy. We got lingerie, we got dominance, we got free use, we got lots of "good boys" and "darlings" and "sweethearts".
This was my first ARC read and I could not have asked for something better. If I had to find one thing to take issue with, it was how many times the phrase "nearly half a dozen" was used. Just say 5 one time 😂

Oh, this book! I honestly don't even know where to start. This was my first Asa Violet book, and I was completely swept away. It made me smile, laugh, cry and OMG those spicy scenes were WOW.
Jasper is a tattoo artist who has pretty much given up on finding someone who truly sees him, and then Konrad walks into his shop to get his ear pierced. Konrad is a chef opening his own restaurant, and from the moment he meets Jasper, he's completely smitten. Meanwhile, Jasper takes a little longer to catch on, and I loved watching it all unfold.
My heart absolutely hurt for Jasper. That deep-rooted feeling of abandonment and believing that no one would ever really care for him was heartbreaking. Watching him slowly realise that he could be vulnerable, ask for help and allow himself to be loved was just beautiful.
And Konrad? This man is a CARETAKER. The way he accepts Jasper exactly as he is, gives him space and never tries to force him to be anything other than himself had me melting. I also loved the representation of Jasper's autism. It felt thoughtful and genuine, and I really appreciated how Konrad simply accepted him without questioning his differences.
Konrad is also unintentionally hilarious. The way this man speaks is something else! He's so eloquent and old-world in his mannerisms, and I found myself giggling at things he said completely straight-faced. He brought so much warmth and humour to the story.

I definitely took the bait, and I’ve never been happier to get hooked. Because what’s inside? Well, it completely enchanted me.
The novel is written in third person (and from one character’s perspective), and anyone who says that emotions can only truly come through in first person either hasn’t read a well-written third-person book or is lying. The author’s writing style is smooth and effortless, using simple language while still keeping the reader captivated from the very first line to the very last.
This book is like a warm hug on a cold winter’s day. I could spend an eternity with the people the author has brought to life, in the settings that felt completely real. I’m genuinely sad that I’ve reached the end of the book, and I envy everyone who gets to experience it for the first time.
Jasper and Konrad have completely stolen my heart.
Jasper, a tattoo artist whose heart has been broken more times than he can count, has completely given up on relationships. He can no longer bring himself to trust people because everyone who has ever promised him something has eventually broken that promise, leaving him alone.
And then Konrad walks into the shop—the newly minted owner of a restaurant who knows from the very first second that he wants Jasper.
I adored every little movement, every word they said—and every word they left unsaid. Konrad’s way of speaking? Guys, I honestly don’t think there’s a single person who could resist him. Konrad’s patience is at least as endless as his love for Jasper. His appearance? His looks? His voice?! I need an audiobook version of this masterpiece! (I want to hear Jasper’s voice too, especially those little moments his accent slips out!)
And Jasper… We see and experience everything through his eyes, yet it felt completely as though I had been there the entire time. In the Vegas room, in the tattoo shop, in the restaurant, in their home.
I absolutely adore the dynamic between them. I also loved Jasper’s clothes and overall look! And the spicy scenes? Incredible!
The virtual pages are practically saturated with emotion. I smiled, I was afraid, I laughed, I hoped, I grieved, I fell in love.

I am on the roll because I always love reading books where characters put in the work to make their relationship work, and boy Jasper and Konrad did everything.
This book is a single third-person POV (Idk if that's correct), but we mainly follow Jasper in a third-person POV so I guess that where I felt the disconnect. However, it's easy to read and felt very genuine. I do wish we get to know more about Konrad's background, past and traumas but nevertheless, it was a good and heart-warming book.
Anyway, I love following couples on their journey and boy this was a wild ride. From their chance meeting, to Jasper sabotaging, to them making things official, they really did show us that relationships are far from perfect.
I want to label this as low-angst, and maybe a bit of slice of life book which was what I wanted, and didn't expect in this book.
Our characters are both endearing, especially Konrad with his formalities and the way he spoke to Jasper like a spoken poetry. I love seeing them in different worlds, and yet together they made sense.
I will be keeping an eye out for more future Asa Violet's works!

So I was initially hooked by the cover because it was beautiful but it also reminded me of Hannibal and Will in the best way! So when I went into this I had them in my mind and it made it such a vivid read for me! This is an age gap romance between jasper a tattoo artist and Konrad a chef! Konrad is absolutely smitten almost immediately when Jasper pierces his ear for him! Jasper is on the spectrum so he sees himself as broken and a burden and that everyone always leaves him so when Konrad expresses how much he likes him and wants more than friendship he doesn’t believe him! When Jasper has to go to a tattoo convention he’s overwhelmed but when Konrad shows up and accompanies him he’s grateful! They have an agreement what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas and their relationship developed the intimacy the vulnerability was so sweet!
When the weekend ends Jasper lets Konrad go but he regrets it because he’s fallen so badly for him! Konrad accepts that Jasper wants space but he’s infatuated with him he’s head over heels! When they get back together it’s honestly so nice!
There are so many favourite moments in this first off the nicknames! Darling and sweetheart!
The fact that Konrad got Jasper to agree to come to dinner at his restaurant and then showing up at jaspers shop with lunch everyday

I absolutely love how we’re slowly starting to see a bit more neurodivergent rep in books lately! I especially love that this book was written by a neurodivergent author. That was one of the immediate selling points for me, along with an incredibly bangin’ sounding plot! 😍
This was such a beautiful and realistic portrayal of autism, and you could feel how much of it came from lived experience. I felt enveloped in every second of it, and I’ve never felt more seen or represented in a book. Ever. 🥹
Konrad making Jasper feel uncomfortably comfortable was SO relatable, and I had such a good laugh at that. This book made me laugh (slutty sock garters, “those sure were words”), smile, and cry. But the moment that really got me was the sweater exchange and the rolling up of the sleeve scene. I actually had to stop reading and share them with my husband because it was SO validating of an autistic experience. 🥹😍
And on top of all that, this book gave us a swoony, epic love story carried by the absolute perfection that is these two MMCs. ❤️
If you’re neurodivergent, have someone in your life who is neurodivergent, or are honestly just looking for an epic love story, this is the book for you!

The dedication of this book says "To anyone who's ever been told you're to much, you're not. To anyone who's ever felt like you needed to make yourself smaller fuck that. Spread your wings, baby. Take up the whole fucking sky." I have never felt so seen by a book. Jasper in this book was quite the mirror for my daily life. His Autism was handled beautifully and really resonated with how it feels for me to be on the spectrum.
Konrad never asks him to try to hide it. Never shys away from him when he needs comfort or help. Never expects him to change what he cannot help to make the people around him feel less weird. He simply asks how to help and does what he can to make the situation better. Konrad is the best partner and friend. He listens, he doesn't push and he does everything he can to make life better for those around him.
This book was a warm hug that I ddin't know I needed. I will say, though, in my head these 2 characters are actually Mads Mikkelsen (Konrad) and Damiano David (Jasper). So it was a fun read. This book was spicy in all the right ways without crossing boundaries. Both characters respeced each other and checked in, which often gets lost in books but is so important.

This book was honestly like a big warm spicy hug. You really can tell that the author has poured their heart and soul into it.
Jasper and Konrad were two of the most unproblematic characters I’ve ever read and I was absolutely here for it. Jasper tried so hard to work through the constant feeling of being undeserving, and Konrad absolutely was the greenest flag to ever fly. They were so supportive of each other as they worked through their pain, and just allowed each other to feel everything and anything they needed to. Konrad never rushed Jasper to make any decisions and I appreciated that so much, especially since he was so sure of what he wanted, he just waited patiently for Jasper to choose.
It was really beautifully written, Konrad especially, the things that came out of that man’s mouth, I could never be so eloquent but I absolutely basked in it. It was so easy to read and a heartwarming story filled with love and acceptance, I honestly felt so at peace reading it.
I look forward to reading more from Asa Violet.
