About the author

Author of over forty romance novels, Emily Mims combined her writing career with a career in public education until leaving the classroom to write full time. In addition to eighteen Candlelight Ecstasy Romances under the pen name 'Emily Elliott', she has written two series under her own name, the Texas Hill Country series and the Smoky Blue series, and has completed four books in the Durango Street Theatre series. The mother of two sons and grandmother to six, she and her husband Charles split their time between San Antonio and their lake home in the Texas Hill Country, and make frequent trips to Tennessee to see grandchildren. When not busy at the word processor, she plays the piano, organ and dulcimer. She plays her ukulele with two singing groups and has even been known to sing a song or two at the mic. She says, "I love to write romances because I believe in them. Romance happened to me and it can happen to any woman-if she'll just let it."

An explosion that had occurred while Jason was deployed in Iraq, left him with not only scars on over half of his body, but took away any self-esteem he had. When he meets Emily, he tries to find something he can give her, some financial stability that would make up for how he felt when he looked in the mirror, ugly.
When he finds out that Emily has everything he wants to give her and more, will this make him walk away from her? Or will he look past it and realize all he needs is her.

Overcoming the biggest obstacle- ourselves

This story touched my heart as I watched this valiant warrior lose the battle against himself when it came to love. He had lost so much on the battlefield but the most serious wounds were ones done to his heart and self worth. Our heroine has also had a past where her ability to see herself clearly has been destroyed by a royal jerk. A man who threw cruel taunts after betraying her has crippled her as much as war has crippled her true love. I'm so glad I read this story!
