The Rare Gems series comes to an explosive conclusion as Tanner Tower is under siege!

As the special election draws to a close, Alan Tanner has become more and more withdrawn, letting his chances of stopping George Harding Carter slip away. With his personal life in turmoil and his relationship with Victoria crumbling, the superhero businessman seems to be on a self-destructive course that could spell disaster in more ways than one. All of this is bad enough, but when a murderous team of villains takes over Tanner Tower, Alan finds himself against a threat he may not be able to stop.

A mole in Tanner Tower has infiltrated the organization to its highest level, and as a result, the Collective Good, as well as all of Manhattan, is now threatened with destruction. On top of this, old enemies have resurfaced, and a sinister threat to both the Collective Good and to the Gailsones has finally made itself known. It’s going to take everything the Gailsones have to survive the night, and if they fail, millions could perish.

Everything in Rare Gems series has been building to this moment. Finally, secrets will be revealed and lives will be forever altered as Carter’s minions make their push. It will take everything the Gailsones have to push back, but how will they be able to as they’re picked off, one by one?

The most fantastically awesome Gailsone novella ever has arrived. Don’t bother debating if it’s the greatest novella you’ve ever read or the greatest book ever! The answer is yes! YES!

With that aside, this novella was written months ago. It was meant to be the third novel, but it occurred to me that too many of my readers are merely following the books and not the novellas, and that wouldn’t be fair. Plus, this particular arc has been treated more like a serial, and I wanted to have some resolution at the end of it.

On that note, we finally get some resolution concerning Vincent and what he’s up to. We also find out who the traitor is in the Collective Good. That was fun for me to write, as well as how they went about attacking each member. I also loved writing the comeback.

We also see the results of the election. This storyline has had some mixed responses, but it’s a setup for the next novel. Also, it allows me to have a little more fun with what the characters do out of costume.

This novella was a love letter to the Chris Claremont era of X-Men. I still remember how blown away I was when the Hellfire Club took them down one by one, and how incredible it was when they managed to bounce back. He was able to write impossible scenarios and always provide an incredible way out (Magneto’s Antarctic volcano prison was one of my favorites.) I have wanted to do a story like that since I started this series, and Towerfall is that story.

The other thing I loved about writing this was expanding the relationship between Allison and Brandon. Really, it’s more about how Allison reacts to having someone normal and good for her in her life, and how she’s slowly, sloooowly opening up to the fact that she can have good things. The last novella, Rare Gems, did a lot of this. In Towerfall, Allison is forced to deal with the fact that she’s still not completely okay with things, and that she has a ways to go before she’ll be where she wants to be.

Finally, this story let us see some more Alice. This arc has been rotating off and on between her and the rest of the cast, and in Towerfall we get to see the full impact of what’s been happening throughout this arc. Her scenes, especially at the end, were difficult to get down.

Overall, I loved writing Towerfall. It went through about four different incarnations before arriving at this point, and I’m by and large happy with what was produced. I hope you will be, too.
