As Missy’s children's charity function is in full swing the entertainment suddenly goes missing and is found slumped over and dead in the middle of the party. Thinking on her feet Missy sends an SOS out to Detective Beckett as they rush to find out who would want to kill such a lively fellow?
Missy gets a request from socialite, Loretta Christianson, to provide cupcakes for as part of a fund raiser to benefit the pediatric wing of the hospital. The event is in two days and will involve about 100 children. Loretta also asks Missy into helping at the event. Reluctantly, Missy agrees. During the event, Loretta learns that the magician she has scheduled had car trouble and would not be able to make it. Knowing that Ben often volunteers as a clown at charity events, she calls him. Ben shows up wearing a huge clown mask and entertains the kids for about an hour until Loretta suggests he take a break.
When Ben fails to return after about 20 minutes, Missy goes looking for him. He appears to be asleep in a chair, but when Missy tries to wake him. Failing to waken him, she removes the mask, she finds it is not Ben. To make matters worse, the person in the chair is dead and Ben is nowhere to be found.
Who was the man in the clown costume? Who killed him? Why was he killed? Where is Ben? Can Chas and Missy figure out the mystery and clear Ben?
This story grabs your attention right from the first chapter. The twists, turns, and mysteries will keep you guessing throughout.
My oh my, this series is becoming the series I love to hate. It's almost becoming comical just how absolutely BAD these books are on a number of levels.
First off, there's the writing... it's so stiff and predictable, not to mention it reads like a rough outline that needs bulking up.
Second, there's the fact that this is supposed to be a cozy mystery, and yet the person who SHOULD be doing the sleuthing (by all the conventions that a cozy mystery is supposed to be) does absolutely nothing except be a cheerleader. All the solving gets done in the background by the actual police, and Missy just goes about her day baking cupcakes...
Third, there's all the factual errors... Like to serve a person court documents, you HAVE to deliver them to the person's hand... Leaving it in the door? Nope, she wasn't served. Then there's the who idiotic thing about Ben's doctor being the one suing him... No, no, and hells no would the hospital ever allow this. Ever.
And the actual 'mystery' itself? Completely laughable...
At least I get a good laugh out of how bad these books are...
My gosh this was My last favorite of all, so far. I mean, every time tears sprang from Missy's eyes, I rolled my eyes and said out loud (to an empty room), "My gosh, woman! You cry SO much. Aaaahhhh!!!! Stop it!" Yes, I get that she's a sensitive soul, but at the same time I saw many instances of Missy having a stone cold heart. She was making me angry in the way she was treating Cheryl - the very woman Missy claimed was like family, like a daughter, in fact.
Perhaps Missy was so angry because not only did she feel helpless to be able to do anything for her "son", but also because so many things around her were going badly and it's usually easier to release Man words to those we love the most because we know they're safe and will forgive. But gosh was Missy plain ol' mean!
Missy's attitude and times when her evil was showing made me like her a bit less. She is human though and I suppose we all have those mean streaks, but I feel the way she was treating others wasn't warranted. I could have done without this in the Frosted Love series. In fact, the only thing I liked about it was what happened in the end.
And talk about a woman with bad luck! I've never read a Cozy Mystery series with the main character being a person of interest in so many of the books. I really hope that future books point the accusatory finger at someone else, for a change - preferably not someone from the Cupcake Crew either. And why does there always have to be a murder? I like when there's just a mystery to be solved and no one has to die. And Missy is darn-tootin' lucky or blessed that Chas comes to her rescue every. Single. Time.
Here's hoping the next is better! Next: book 9 of 32 "Honey Dripped Murder" aka “Pink Velvet Murder”. As you’ll come to find out while reading the author’s note you’ll find that the author has gone through each book again to add details and do some editing. What I’ve just discovered is she obviously changed the title of some of the books from their original.
Missy is asked to help out a charity function where the caterers don't provide dessert so she does and when their entertainment can't make it, she calls in Ben to do his clown routine, but something is wrong because when he goes on break, he's gone a long time and when they go to check it's not Ben in the clown suit it's someone else and they're dead. From there everything goes straight to chaos, Missy is accused of giving a child a cupcake she's allergic to resulting in her being rushed to the hospital and when the organizer of the event hears of this, she tells everyone not to use Missy's bakeries resulting in the loss of quite a bit of business. There are so many twists and turns not to mention surprises you can't keep track of them all. Then there's a car accident and things just seem to be getting worse but in the end Detective Beckett and the police come through and arrest the murderer, Missy gets an apology and a job offer. Great read.
For once Missy isn't the suspect, however, it is someone in her staff. Finally, Cheryl has finally gotten some backstory which I felt was lacking. This is a very interesting finding out what happened before she came to Missy's Muffins. However, everything felt a little forceful through out the story. I felt like the story was put together just to give her a backstory and wasn't really planned.
The murder mystery itself was well thought out and interesting, even though they kinda shoe horned Ben and Cheryl into the story line. I also enjoy how they worked in more history to the victims in the story which makes you relate to them more.
I am really enjoying going back to where it all began for Missy and Chas. All the characters are like a mini family and more good things are on the way for them.
No good deed goes unpunished! Missy lets herself get talked into helping at a children’s gathering. A child has an allergic reaction to a cupcake and Missy is facing a lawsuit. She’s sure she didn’t do anything wrong but she’s more worried about her store manager, Ben. He’s missing and the man discovered wearing his costume was murdered. With Chas at her side she knows they will figure everything out.
Another good story in this series! Poor Missy really got unjustly dumped on by the community, as can happen in a small town I imagine. I found it funny, then, that Missy basically did the same thing to Cheryl. It seemed a little out of character for her, however I loved the story nonetheless and I’m loving where the series is headed. The mystery in this one was super intriguing.
I'm a long time fan of this series and I'm thoroughly enjoying revisiting it. It takes a special author to create a cast of characters that you find yourself totally invested in and that's what draws you in and keeps you coming back for more. I can't wait for the next walk down memory lane.
Missy is involved in a another murder and this time her employee Ben pays the price. This is a cute series, but the books are very quick reads. I wish the author had maybe combined them into a larger book.Still wondering about Missy and Chas' relationship. They've been together for months, whats going on?
As usual this book is awesome! I love this series and I especially love the new covers!! It is so cool to know where they are today and go back in time from the very beginning. Can't wait till the next book in this series and the new series come out!
Such a good writer and I love this series. I really love the characters in this book. Cheryl and Ben are made for each other. And I hope another one is around the corner.
I adored this book! Ben and Cheryl plan to marry but other mysterious tho be happen to put it off for awhile, this gets Chas and missy involved and in the end it works out but feelings change and all for the better! Love is definitely in the air for missy and chas!
I'm glad Missy finally should some true grit feelings. No matter how sweet or nice we are, they are times we get upset with friends and last out. Business destruction was getting to old Love the characters but looking for some new venues.
I don't see the title but liked the story. I enjoyed all the repeat characters.. Was surprised with the guilty parties and their connections. I liked that it could read in a short period of time. Write more.
This book was a very enjoyable read.... I sat down on an early Saturday morning to read it, and didn't put it down until it was done! It made want to look for the others in this series. Then I wanted to go and do some baking! So much for my Saturday chores!!! I would recommend this book, a d possibly the series, to anyone e how enjoys a light mystery that will still keep the reader looking forward to figure g out who the bad guy...or girl..is!!
I just love getting into what could happen next in this mystery. The cupcakes are another big hit in this little town, that is until the rumor was that the owner of the store is involved in this murder, yikes! As they say, all's well that ends well and I'm so glad it did in this story!
I have enjoyed this series and the characters as they expand and grow. This is a great addition to the series and gives a story to a couple of the secondary characters. I found the plot in this book to be more intense than previous books in the series. A great Cozy group to enjoy for a quick entertaining read.
I love how the characters are getting more familiar. The story was great. I was really starting to worry about Ben and Cheryl for awhile. As always it all com together in the end.
This has been the best book so far. Love, murder, cupcakes and more in this book. Lots of fun and exciting twists. A must read for cozy mystery lovers. I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a fun read
