Strange Bedfellows

Rate this book
Can the billionaire son of a Democratic president build a family with the congressman son of a Republican senator? Forget politics, love makes strange bedfellows.

As the sole offspring of the Democratic United States president and his political operative wife, Trevor Moga was raised in an environment driven by the election cycle. During childhood, he fantasized about living in a made-for-television family, and as an adult, he rejected all things politics and built a highly successful career as far from his parents as possible.

Newly elected congressman Ford Hollingsworth is Republican royalty. The grandson of a revered governor and son of a respected senator, he was bred to value faith, family, and the goal of seeing a Hollingsworth in the White House.

When Trevor and Ford meet, sparks fly and a strong friendship is formed. But can the billionaire son of a Democratic president build a family with the congressman son of a Republican senator? Forget politics, love makes strange bedfellows.

Cardeno C books are my crack. I've read nearly every single one, and I enjoyed them all.

I liked this one too, but, as much as it pains me to say it, I didn't love it.

First, the positives:

The relationship between Ford and Trevor is all kinds of gooey and spicy. While this book isn't quite as steamy as some of Cardeno's other books, it certainly includes some intense, dirty sex.

Ford loves it when Trevor talks dirty, and so do I. And Ford's shy but oh-so-eager demeanor is all kinds of hawtt (yes, spelled just like that).

I also liked Ford's parents, Mr. and Mrs. President, particularly his mother, who has a cunning blend of ruthlessness, smarts, and softness (at least for her son) that I found endearing. But, hell, I love strong women.

The ending is a HEA, of course, although I could have done without the epilogue. Not that it was bad, but it focused on Ford's political career, which I couldn't bring myself to care about.

And that brings me to the negatives, or rather the issues *I* had with this book (which may not bother you at all):

Ford comes from a Republican family and runs on a Republican ticket. He's also a conservative Christian and prays all the time. And yet he has no problem embracing his sexuality and coming out to his parents. Yes, it takes him 37 years, but once he meets Trevor, it's all systems go.

This didn't strike me as believable.

Conservative, religious Republicans in the U.S. are not ... well, they're not like Ford.

The United States is polarized and bleeding at the seams, and I just couldn't see how the son of a Democratic president and a Republican representative had anything in common besides hot sex.

It's not just labels; there are real issues at stake, including healthcare; a woman's jurisdiction over her body; a person's right to die with dignity; funding for Planned Parenthood, education, welfare, and early childhood programs vs. funding for war and weapons; the environment; gun control; police brutality; cutting taxes for the wealthy while raising taxes for the poor; and, YES, same-sex marriage.

None of this is touched upon. This book glides happily along the surface, and I found this unrealistic and more than a little frustrating (even with my fiction shades firmly in place).

That being said, many of the conversations between Ford and Trevor made me smile.

I loved the scene where Ford opens the door in his pajamas and slippers, and Trevor salivates for his prim and proper man, stripping him of his pajama pants and nothing else.

It helps that Trevor is a gillionaire and can call on his private jet to take him to Ford's doorstep whenever Ford is upset.

Hell, I'm feeling jipped!

I would still recommend this book if you're a CC fan. It contains lots of charm, steamy lovin', and sweet feels.

I am just very touchy when it comes to religion and politics, and couldn't get past it.

*DNF at 62%... the audio was killing me.*

Cardeno C. and I have a very tumultuous relationship. We have super high highs (Perfect Imperfections) and super low lows (A Shot at Forgiveness) and, honestly, not that much in between. I either LOOOOVE CC's books or I hate them. This is much more the latter.

Sometimes with audiobook reviews I talk about the audio at the end of the review because it isn't the main factor in how I feel about a story. However, in this case I MUST talk about the narrator first. Ron Herczig was a bizarre narrator for me. I liked certain part of his performance, namely the tone of his voice. When he was reading Trevor, I enjoyed the deep, raspy quality of his tone. However, I really hated the squeaky, and at times barely audible, voice of Ford. It sounded like a mouse or something, and it was actually difficult for me to catch some of the words because of the changes in volume when he switched from Trevor to Ford.

However, the most annoying this about the narrator for me was the way he stressed certain words that I would never think to accent. It was like, "We went to the... park... to buy some... dinner." There were these pauses throughout that threw me off, and he put emphasis on odd words in his sentences that made the whole narration feel unnatural. It was exceedingly hard for me to concentrate on the story, and I was listening on a long car trip with no distractions. In fact, it was so annoying that I couldn't force myself to listen to the rest of the story on the way home, and I decided to just call it quits.

In terms of the story, I just found that it stretched my imagination too far. The characterizations just didn't make sense to me. I didn't buy Ford's quasi in denial about being gay thing, but then me meets Trevor and it was like, "Heeeyyyy, I love penis!" I didn't finish the story but I wasn't overly impressed with the plot from what I listened to.

A miss for me,

This is actually the first book that I have read by Cardeno C. that there are no werewolves included. And I truly liked it!
I didn’t even mind reading about all this politics and games behind the scenes. And I have to emphasize that I hate politics.

Trevor Moga as the only son of the Democratic United States president was really likable/understanding/protective and Ford Hollingsworth as the congressman son of a Republican senator (a closet gay man) was adorable and so brave in the end.

Together, while they are falling in love, are sweet and funny.

ETA: bumped from 3.5 to 4.5 Stars because of multiple reads - can't get enough of CC!

A beautifully romantic, sexy fairy tale with scorching hot sexy times and terrific dirty talk!

And Tell me more

37 year old Bradford “Ford” Hollingsworth III has just started his first term as a Republican congressman, following in his grandfather and father's (a long time Senator and past presidential hopeful) esteemed political footsteps. Ford has spent most of his life trying to ignore the inner voice that tells him he'll never be happy with a woman because it would mean walking away from his family and his aspirations, but with each passing year it's becoming impossible. On one of the rare occasions when he can't handle the stress of life as an up-an-coming politician he picks up an anonymous bar hookup. But once the afterglow of a truly spectacular blowjob fades, and the lights come on, Ford is horrified to find his "anonymous" hookup is none other than Trevor Moga.

42 year old Trevor Moga is the only child of the current sitting President of the United States and his politically savvy wife. Trevor's childhood was spent filled with warnings about always being careful of his actions lest he land his parents in an above-the-fold article and family time being spent focused solely on the next election has soured Trevor on all things political. As an adult he has mostly eschewed politics and anything having to do with the world his parents live in.

Just as a side note, I loved Trevor's mother, and couldn't help but picture Emily Gilmore every time the First Lady had page time.
emily-gilmore

Of course Trevor is aware of Ford, mostly from when Ford's father would trot the family out for political press opportunities, and has always been drawn to the softness in Ford's expression and his genuineness, so when Trevor is given the opportunity to take Ford home, he does. After convincing Ford he has no agenda and they can just enjoy the night together with no strings or repercussions, Trevor determines to enjoy the time they have together, thinking it will only be for a single night.

Though neither expects to see each other again, Trevor can't get Ford, and the night they spent together, off his mind so Trevor seeks Ford out for another meeting. They begin to see each other whenever they can, in secret (of course), over the next seven months. It's helpful that Trevor is exceedingly rich, owns his own Gulfstream plane, and can afford the opulent, discreet hotels in which they meet.

Of course, neither expects to fall in love either, but they do. Seeing their relationship develop is so sweet and hot and wonderful. This is absolutely a sort of fairy tale, in the best possible sense, where all the obstacles are overcome, the lovers are able to be together, and the world is righted through the sheer will of their desire to be together. It's a fairy tale all right, and I ate it up with a spoon!
So Sweet

There is just something about this story - Ford's struggle to not disappoint his family, his constituents or Trevor...Ford's desire to be with Trevor, his struggle with self discovery and wanting to be honest with everyone about who he loves...Trevor's desire and pursuit of Ford...Trevor's defense of Ford by helping Ford's father...Trevor's realization that though his parents have an unconventional marriage, it doesn't mean they love each other less - these were all points that made what could have been a too-sweet romance a genuinely lovely story that has stayed with me long after I put it down.

ETA 6th April 2022: I love Cardeno C's stories - They're a perfect blend of romance, sex, and humor and 'Strange Bedfellows' is one of my favorites. However, out of all of her audiobooks 'Strange Bedfellows' is my least favorite, mostly because I don't like the narrator's tone or speaking style. But, because I really wanted to re-listen I changed the audio speed this time to 1.25x and it made all the difference in the world listening. I would not usually recommend changing the speed as it does alter the overall performance, but if the tone and pacing is as bothersome to you as it was to me, try increasing to 1.25x before you chuck it out, you might end up as pleasantly surprised as I was.

Length: 6 hrs and 48 mins
2 stars for the audio

Ron Herczig is a new narrator for me and boy, he makes the sexy times absolutely scorching!
Hot In Here

However, he uses a kind of lazy tone that I didn't find appealing and his character voices are so close in tone that I was sometimes confused as to which character was speaking. It wasn't enough to put me off the audio, but it did diminish my enjoyment of the otherwise wonderful story.

Cardeno C can always be counted on for a sweet, feel good romance. Normally any book having to do with politics and conservative Republicans would have me thinking twice, but in this case I couldn’t resist. While the political landscape is the backdrop of this book, it is not a political book. It’s a sexy, fun opposites attract romance.

Bradford “Ford” Hollingsworth, III is continuing his family’s history of public service and is just starting his first term as a Republican congressional Representative for Missouri. The son of a long time Senator and past and future presidential hopeful, Ford has grown up in a conservative, southern family straight out of a 1950’s sit com. Ford is devoted to his life in politics, but is still naïve in many ways. At 37 years old, Ford has stayed firmly in the closet, only daring for the occasional hookup, and believes that his dream of having a family of his own will never come true.

Trevor is the opposite. Regardless of the fact that he is the only child of the sitting Democratic President of the United States, he stays far away from anything political. He has become cynical after being raised in a family that was staged for the public while behind closed doors family time was spent preparing for his father’s next election and his parents slept in separate rooms, often with other lovers. At 42 years old he is a self-made billionaire. He doesn’t believe in relationships, but knows if he ever did have one it would be nothing like the one his parents have.

Hooking up in Trevor’s home after meeting in a bar, Ford has no idea at first who he has gone home with. As soon as he finds out the truth he panics. Trevor manages to talk him down and convince Ford that he is not out to destroy his career. After that first time, the two don’t expect to see each other again, but Trevor can’t get Ford out of his mind. A chance meeting at a dinner honoring Trevor’s company sets the stage for the next seven months. The two men are not often in the same place at the same time, and Ford needs to remain discreet. Luckily Trevor is one of the richest men in the country, owns a private jet and has access to rooms in any high end, discreet hotel he wants.

As they spend more time together they both find themselves dealing with things that they never expected, such as Trevor’s jealousy when he sees pictures of Ford with various women at social events, and his questioning of his long held beliefs about his parents and politics. Ford is struggling to reconcile his faith, his ability to serve his constituents in good conscience and his family’s beliefs with his growing need to come out and be true to himself. Of course, this is a book with a political setting, so the potential for scandal on several different fronts is a big factor for everyone involved.

I loved the chemistry between the shy buttoned up, bow tie wearing Ford and the fun loving, dirty talking Trevor. The sex is hot and the banter between the two is fun and entertaining. Ford is adorable, but gets even better when he learns to relax and have fun with Trevor, who is never afraid to let Ford know exactly where he wants him and what he’s going to do once he gets him there!

There was potential for disaster on so many fronts with Ford’s coming out, and though it wasn’t easy, but it never got overly dramatic. The religious and political aspects of the story, while always present, never made me feel like I was being preached at or pushed in a certain direction. I really liked Trevor’s mother, the First Lady, who is smart and loving and Ford’s family offered a range of acceptance and understanding. When these two worlds collide it’s equal parts entertaining and scary.

If you are a fan of Cardeno C or just a fan of sweet, sexy men falling in love despite their differences while having hot, dirty sex, on their way to happily ever after, you will definitely want to read this.

TBH, I wasn't too keen on buying this book, even though the author is on my auto-buy list and I have read and loved almost all her books. The reason being that I hate politics, and avoid any discussions like an ostrich burying its head in the sand.

But one day, out of curiosity, I read some of the reviews made by other readers. It had been eating at me, that I wasn't giving this book a chance, so I did exactly that. And I am happy to have made that decision.

I loved Trevor and Ford. The shy and sincere side of Ford touched me deeply (and also gelled it in my mind that is must be fiction, because for the life of me, I can never expect that nature to belong to a "politician". But that's just me being jaded). Trevor's quirkiness, and adamancy about staying away from politics (which is so me), made me relate to him more than Ford. I loved to see him go for what he wanted with no holds barred!

The parents played such an amazing role in this. The last conversation between both the fathers was hilarious! An enjoyable read, but I don't really think I would be rereading it. Maybe that's cause of the politics plot, or maybe I felt something missing, I can't articulate. Cause I myself don't know it. The most I can say is, that despite being enjoyable, and somewhat memorable too, I just didn't fall for it as I did for, say, Perfect Imperfections. So yea, I won't be picking it up again, sorry!

I recommend this to anyone who is looking for some fun amidst the boring "politics" talk!:-)

The last book I read was heavy, and I needed my next book to be fluffy and steamy. I figured Cardeno C fit that description perfectly. Unfortunately, I couldn't connect with the characters nor the story.

Ever since I've become a mm romance fan a lot of mm readers recommended books by Cardeno C., so beside the intriguing synopsis that was one of the main reasons I read this book. If you read her biography, the first sentence says that she "...is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few "awwws" into a reader's day..." Now, after I had finished the book, I couldn't agree more with that description because this book was just like that.

I'm not crazy about politics nor about books with billionaire MCs, but I was intrigued to see how the author planned to make happen a romantic relationship between two opposite political sides- a Democratic and a Republican. Their political views aside, the main couple Trevor and Ford were also total opposites when it comes to their upbringing and personalities. Trevor was raised in a non-conventional family by parents who had an open marriage and who made their life all about politics whereas family always came second while Ford was raised in a Christian family who valued faith, family and hard work above all.

Therefore Trevor grew up with aversion to all things which had to do with politics, while Ford was expected to follow his father's and grandfather's steps. Their upbringing, politics and personal values will be the main things that will raise the odds against their potential future. When it comes to their personalities- I liked Trevor better because he was a strong, self-confident and independent character. He was his own person who wasn't burdened by other people's opinion of his lifestyle, unlike Ford who was more the insecure and careful one and whose family had a big influence on him even after 37 years. Plus, Trevor was a dirty-talker and you all know that dirty-talkers are my Achilles' heel, lol.

In my opinion the author took more of a fairy-tale-alike approach to solving all the potential "obstacles" which came in the way of Ford's and Trevor's relationship. That was at the same time a positive and slightly negative thing for me. A positive thing because the book was drama-free and negative also for the same reason because every problem solved shortly and with ease making the story to some degree anticlimatic.

That is why, as one of my friends said- I liked it and plan to read more books by this author, but I didn't love it. I would recommend it to mm readers who want a shorter, romantic, steamy, emotional and drama-free mm read.

Ford Hollingsworth, Republican congressman from Missouri and from a family with a long political history, is coming to terms with his sexuality. When he has a chance encounter one night with Trevor Moga, Ford begins a relationship for the first time that will radically change his life. See, Trevor's the son of the President of the United States and Dad's a Democrat.

I expected Trevor and Ford to have the usual dilemmas associated with two powerful political families on opposite sides of the aisle but it wasn't that kind of story. The focus was on their developing relationship from a more personal perspective. Being in a committed relationship was new for Trevor and Ford hadn't come out to anyone yet.

Ford was such a sweet character and I enjoyed his self discovery, especially how he reconciled his situation spiritually. While it first appeared that Trevor might have the upper hand, Ford's guileless nature was the real driver, not only with his lover but his conservative leaning family. It was refreshing.

The ending might be unrealistic but it certainly was true to the characters. I loved their resolution and these bedfellows were anything but strange. Be prepared for some off the charts, steamy moments, too, as Trevor and Ford don't hold back. I very much enjoyed this story.

So…I’m not exactly sure what happened here.

You see, I was reading right along and enjoying this political tale. There’s shy, naive, do-gooder Ford…a Republican…and a congressman. And there’s slick, billionaire, out-and-proud Trevor…a Democrat…and the President’s son. The two meet at a bar and what begins is not only a series of stolen sexual encounters (HOT!), but a blossoming friendship-maybe-more.

I liked the trust and honesty the author writes into this relationship. In a political landscape where people hide everything, Ford and Trev allow themselves to open up and be vulnerable and transparent with each other. And it’s sweet…really really sweet. I’m bought in…I’m along for the ride.

And then everything kinda just goes up in flames.

No, not angst. Nope…barely no concern at all for any deviation from the perfect relationship building between these two.

But, the author takes us down a tale of politics that is so over-the-top unbelievable…throwing in power-plays by both sets of parents…that I just honestly could not help from rolling my eyes. And then the book lost me. I just didn’t care anymore. I don’t necessarily expect the most realistic stories from this author…I usually go to Cardeno C when I want a bit of the hard’ish-to-believe fairy tale. But this one…well, maybe American politics just makes me cynical…and I couldn’t get into it once I was pulled out.

It wraps itself up all tidy, as these books do…definitely TOO tidy for my liking.

All in all, strong start…but then downhill from there. It was okay…just okay…

First of all, this is VERY HOOOOOOOTTTTTTTT!!!!! On the very first scene, Trevor & Ford are having sex already! Lol!

But what I love about this story is that I felt really good reading it. Cardeno C. has the ability to make the most awkward and tense situations into something light. And also he makes his MCs so in love with each other that you'll turn to mush while reading it. I missed that when I read Johnnie.

My little issue is that it's a little unrealistic. But hey, wouldn't it be great if there is someone brave enough to come out as gay even though he/she is in public office? That would make me respect our public officials more.

Overall, if you want to read something feel good but really erotic at the same time, this one's for you.

Was this book perfect? Objectively? Not by a long shot. But... *shrugs* Whatever.

I was in the perfect mood for something sweet and fluffy with endearing characters who are spontaneous, understanding, loyal to one another, and just a little bit naughty. Cardeno C. so, so delivered with Strange Bedfellows. This book had me smiling, laughing, blushing, and then awwwwwwing like I was scrolling through a Tumblr page full of kittens in teacups. I loved it! It made me happy and sometimes that's all I require in a book.

Strange Bedfellows is a story of a billionaire Democrat son who falls for a very closeted and religious Republican congressman. So from this premise alone, you’d know that there’ll be complications bound to happen. (Errr…)

Trevor Moga is the billionaire son of the US President and doesn’t give a hoot about politics, not big on religion and doesn’t have a tight knit family in normal ways. Bradford Hollingsworth Jr. however is the opposite aside from his party affiliation – the guy’s focused on his political career, was raised to follow his religion and is a family guy in every sense of the word.

I loved the initial approach of the author with Trevor and Ford. It was sexy and fast-paced as we get a feel right away about their characters. It’s easy to like them from the get go and their scenes together (which is 90% involving sex) are always hot.

The story goes the usual route. Trevor is openly gay, rich and does whatever it is that makes Ford happy. Then there’s Ford who’s been trying to figure out a way to come out since meeting Trevor. Then there’s the little fight about their relationship being a secret, the meeting the parents and the happy ever after.

Everything seems to fall into their rightful places. It’s a feel good story masked into a rather angsty premise but was actually non-existent all throughout the story. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing though. It was in fact enjoyable reading it the way you read the usual kid’s fairy tale where the prince arrived in a white horse to save the princess from the evil witch. It’s not even that predictable. It’s just too unrealistic and a bit anti-climactic because it totally lacks conflict so the whole dealio about coming out and being a Republican no less was like – okay, just another day in the office…

I swear, I enjoyed reading it though. Halfway through – I’ve gotten bored with Ford’s character because I was thinking that the story would go the usual route about him being in the closet but when it didn’t because the author decided to cut every angsty shit off – I thought, it was rather a wise decision since I didn’t see that coming at all. Not very clever but very convenient to say the least. I’d recommend this book for peeps that are looking for some sexy and sweet happy ending fairy-tale like romance in a pseudo-political setting.

3,5... Very sweet stars ;)

I enjoyed this one more than I thought I would. The relationship between Ford and Trevor was all kinds of sweet and sexy. It wasn't as steamy as some of the others books I've read by this author, but it was still plenty hot !!

I normally don't like books about politics and religion, but this one was very nicely done. I still skimmed some of the politieval stuff though.

Also...Ford pissed me off a little bit by being the 37 year old closeted gay guy, scared to show his religious, republican parents his true self. I can understand coming out is hard..I just always feel so bad for the person they are in a relationship with. Nobody likes being a dirty little secret and I can imagine that's what it would feel like.

But Trevor...he was awesome and so understanding ...I loved him !!

Ofcourse Ford more than made up for hiding his realtionship with Trevor. When he figured out he was in love...he was all in !!

Was this story realistic..no it was not, but guess what.....I don't give a shit. Vampires and shifters aren't realistic either and I love reading those books as well.

This book made me feel good, and that's all that matters to me.

Very sweet, romantic and sexy...3,5 stars from me, because politics are not my favorite subject to read about :)) The extra half star is for Trevors dirty talk ;)

First, let me say that I'm a fan so take anything I say about this book with a grain of salt. I really enjoyed every sugary, sappy moment of this book. Did it have moments that couldn't possibly happen IRL? sure! Did I care? Not at all. I read to escape. I don't want to see absolute reality when I'm reading romance. If I wanted that, I would just read my diary (if I bothered to write one). So I enjoy knowing that I can read a book by Cardeno C and be guaranteed a happy ending. There is comfort in knowing that after an awful day or an extra angsty book (I don't read those on purpose) that I can read a book by Cardeno and KNOW that I'm going to smile. Sue me. So read this book based on my review at your own risk. You've been warned. And maybe it's just me (probably), but I don't feel like this story is really over. I would love to see more of what happens next.

No, this didn't work for me. The story, the narration, the characters, none of it. These are adults and have grown up jobs. Why are they acting so stupid and immature? Ford and Trevor, they are not a good couple, they have nothing in common except for being gay, and I skipped several parts of the story because first there was too much sex. I get they are viral men in the prime of their life but gah, enough is enough being on page. And the second reason I skipped parts is because I couldn't deal with how they talked to each other. I wanted more adult time instead of horny horndog time.

2 stars all around. This may have been better if I had read it instead of listened because I could have made the characters sound, hopefully, better in my head.

Ford Hollingsworth is single, sexually repressed, and the son of a Republican Congressman who’s next in line for his fathers senate seat when he retires. However, he has a big problem, as far as he is concerned – he’s lived in the closet his entire life and the seat is about to become his for the taking. Ford rarely gives into his urges, leaving him rather inexperienced as far as his sex life goes. He is the stereotypical closet case and after he’s had his fun he leaves immediately, but doesn’t yet realise that he’s living a sad and lonely life.

Dropping into a gay bar one night changes his life forever, hoping for a quick one night stand, the thirty seven year old Republican gets more than he bargains for. With extremely conservative and god fearing parents, being outed would not only kill his career it might possibly destroy his family in the process, leaving him one extremely paranoid man. Unknowingly he was spotted entering the bar piquing the interest of a particular person who could destroy his career overnight.

Trevor Moga is a self made billionaire and can’t believe who he saw just duck into a gay bar. He follows Ford in and has every intention of taking him home, they hit it off and leave together. Ford is then treated to the most mind blowing sex of his life, but post coital conversation sends Ford’s spider senses tingling as his worst nightmare come true. He suddenly realises he kind of recognises his bed partner but can’t quite place him. He brushes it off as another bout of paranoia but he was right in his assumptions and why wouldn’t he, as Trevor confirms who he is, the current President’s son, of the Democratic kind.

“Trevor,” Ford whispered as pleasure swamped him and hot cream pulsed from his dick. He kept stroking, emptying himself over the tie as he gasped and shook, the orgasm going on and on.

Ford flips out and nearly flees from the room but the charismatic, modest and, very sexy Trevor, in body and soul, calms him down and for the first time in his life, Ford spends the entire night with another man. Not only is Trevor a remarkable lover but he’s stimulating and intelligent which Ford can’t resist.

“I never do this. Even the few times I’ve been with a guy, I haven’t spent the night. You know who I am, so this is different, but I’m still not in a position to… I’m not ready to—”

They slowly begin seeing each other, stealing more and more secret nights and random weekends together despite their busy schedule’s with their demanding careers. In spite of all of this, they manage to make the time to see more of each other as the mutual respect and love of each other intensifies rapidly. After Ford spends a bit of time with his family he realises just how lonely his life really is. He realises he is really missing Trevor and it’s 100% reciprocated by Trevor, more than Ford realises. Spending as much time as possible in bed having passionate sex but also enjoying very open and soul baring conversations that neither of them have experienced before. Now they’re beginning to realise that it’s a first for the both of them.

“Eat your ass while you sit on my face?” Trevor said, finishing Ford’s thought. Ford dropped his forehead onto Trevor’s shoulder. “That sounds even dirtier when you say it in this high-brow room.”

Trevor came out at eighteen but is a compassionate and patient man, not because of his father’s Presidency, which is Democrat, but because he understands the implications behind the politics of Ford being a gay Republican and what that would do to his career. Actually Trevor just despises politics in general, being an only child he was quite neglected by his parents and their ugly ways of sleeping around but maintaining the facade of being happily married. All for the good of the party but they’re still extremely close, trusting each other implicitly and Trevor is intrigued by Ford’s amazing family life. It is what he desperately wanted as a child. He’s initially a bit cynical about it towards Ford.

Seven months after Ford and Trevor begin to find their feet, a culmination of different events begin to send multiple scenario’s out of control. Leaving the cards of destiny to fall where they’re pre-ordained to land. Will Ford step out of the closet and risk his political career O will he choose love in a world that hasn’t quite accepted same sex relationships?

Strange Bedfellows is the latest Audiobook released by Cardeno C. As always it’s exceptionally well written where the main characters are solid and well established beautiful men. Even though they are polar opposites in almost all respects, from upbringing to beliefs, they compliment each other in an amazing way and that was what made the backbone to this contemporary love story.

I read this one back in 2015 and really enjoyed it. (I think it's Cardeno C.'s hottest novel, and that's really saying something. But between the instant chemistry between the mc's and the extremely creative sex scenes, Strange Bedfellows is a scorcher!).

Centered mostly around the relationship between the mc's, there's also some nice family drama, and an interesting storyline if you suspend your disbelieve over the plot... though after Red, White, and Royal Blue, CC's idea doesn't seem that unreal anymore.

It was a treat to revisit Strange Bedfellows in audio. I've gotta say that Ron Herczig does a marvelous job! Nice voices for each character, and he accents the humor which runs throughout the whole novel. Plus I'm giving him bonus points for performing those awesome sex scenes with so much flair!

CC's latest story is as usual fluffy and sweet. Venturing into politics as a background, Strange Bedfellows matches a Republican House Representative with the billionaire son of the sitting Democrat POTUS.

Strange bedfellows, indeed.

Trevor isn't interested in politics, even though his parents are living in the White House and have been involved in politics his whole life. He has carved a life for himself, providing funding for start-up companies and selling his shares for a profit. He has tons of money, a job he enjoys, and men to warm his bed for a night.

Ford Hollingsworth has been groomed for his father's Senate seat for a long time. Gay, but not out to anyone, he has denied himself most of his life, living mostly celibate bc of politics and his deeply-held faith, he's been lonely and unfulfilled, but scared to go after what he really wants.

Meeting Trevor in a nightclub in NYC, not realizing that Trevor has recognized him, the two men spent a hot and heavy night together.

And then they meet up again. And talk on the phone. Text. Meet some more. Of course it's all hush-hush, bc politics, but over the course of 7 months, the two fall in love. And Ford is faced with a choice.

I really loved how the author positioned the two on separate ends of their respective spectrums, how initially Trevor seems to have it all together, when it's actually Ford who is the strong one to make the choice that's right for them both. I liked how Trevor still had an opportunity to learn something, to change his view of things, and how strongly the two felt for each other.

I loved how Trevor, once he got over himself, supported Ford quietly (and not so quietly), and how Ford stood by his convictions, but was able to let go of the things that had kept him in the closet.

And of course, a HEA is always in a CC book, and this one didn't deviate from that expectation. I liked how the author created the ending, even if it was slightly unbelievable that Ford's parents would so quickly change their minds and be so supportive, but hey, it's a CC romance and that's okay.

I quite enjoyed it. The sexy times are hot, but also emotional, and while this book, like most from this author, rates high on the fluffy scale, I really like reading that kind of story. It doesn't have to be realistic to be enjoyable.

** I received a free copy of this book from it's author. A positive review was not promised in return. **

This one disappointed me, and for so many reasons that it's actually kind of difficult to put them all into words. Thankfully, Dani(ela) already did it for me. Seriously, her review just sums it all up perfectly, including the reasons I liked this book, and how sweet I found a few aspects. I'm a slight fan of Cardeno C, but this one was just way too superficial to impress me.

I have forever been a Cardeno C. Junkie and will buy and read anything that is released by Cardeno, this book was something however I was waiting for the audiobook! I kinda wish I had just read it. I really didn't enjoy Ron Herzig and his voice, inflection, Cadence.. Yeah I just didn't like it. I did keep listening because I wanted to finish the story, but my appreciation for the narration was nil.

A very unique story, I have to admit when I read the synopsis I thought "Oh no, Politics?!" And thus the decision to wait was made - I regret that choice now! Although this story was written with Politics infused in it, it was truly a love story and the Politics did not takeover the story..nor was there political opinions infused throughout the story! It really was a wonderful story!

Trevor and Ford go through a lot of trials and tribulations however even though they know money can solve a lot of problems, one thing money can't fix..nor buy..is love. Can Trevor and Ford get past all the obstacles attempting to keep the apart? Will an out and proud gay man go back in the closet to protect the political career of his boyfriend? Should he have to? One thing is for sure...love doesn't care what your political affiliation is..sometimes strange bedfellows end up to be the best lovers!

This has to be my favorite gay political with a little religion thrown in, story yet! Yes I said “gay”, “religion”, and “political” in the same sentence.
No one can tell a heartwarming story quite like CC, gets quite to the heart of the matter straight from page 1 and never slows down to you see THE END.
This book has pages of witty banter between Ford and Trevor and I felt like they made an excellent couple, the religious aspects that were touched upon were worthy and necessary for the story and I felt like it was well written and centered toward the story plot. I am so glad CC ask me to read and review for her.

“ I do my best every day to honor my creator, and I can’t believe he would have made me this way if it was wrong.” ~Ford
“Eat your ass while you sit on my face?” Trevor said….
“But how can you make a three thousand dollar suit and a filthy mouth work together?” “I’ve been upgraded from dirty to filthy. That’s a lot of pressure to live up to.”

this is the book i always come home to. i read this religiously every year. listen, i get that there's lot of things to be discussed and done for american politics. a lot of issues since they are from different parties. but i love how their conflict is internally and while we didn't witness their external problems i dont mind. id rather this book dont dive into politics and drag it along. i love ford so much. he's not confident at first with trevor but trevor let him shine. he was not weak like any other mcs i really hate. i just love their dynamics. so equal in so many ways. the fact that i always read this yearly says a lot. although i dont mind a little conflict this one was not forced. it was reasonable. altho the author couldve detailed more about the campaign or meeting their parents or more banters between them i think it will just ended up as page fillers. i also love that trevor is rich and he spoils ford immensely. and ford lets him. they are just cute.

3, 5 stars

What I usually do:
1. I read a book
2. Put it on my to be reviewed list
3. Move on to my next one, and kind of forget about it.

I want to change that, in the coming year I actually want to reflect on the books I read and think about what I've just read. Did it add anything to my life? How did I feel reading it? Would I read it again? What did I like about it? What did I hate about it? Should I recommend it?

Simple Questions, and from now on - Questions I will try to answer when I review books. First on the agenda is Strange Bedfellows

How did I feel reading this book?
Kind of like I was walking on sunshine? Ford was adorable, and Trevor went after what he wanted full speed ahead (not looking back or regretting) and those are my favourite types of characters. People who aren't sorry for who they are, what they do.

Go hard or go home... He never second-guessed himself, never held back and never shied away from risks

When you have characters as these, it's hard not to fall for them and root for them as they walk their respective paths towards one another.

So, basically this book made me feel happy. Giddy, even, at times and boy did I go "Oh, wow" because some of those scenes were... Just, wow.

Thank you for loving me... Easiest thing I've done

Would I read it again?

Perhaps. Most likely not anytime soon, because one thing I cannot stand is knowing (for sure) what's going to happen, and though this book was adorable and a perfect comfort read for when you just want to love the world and be happy, it's just that. Cute, but not "omg... I must read this again, right this instant"

What did I like about it?

Both Ford and Trevor's growth, both as individuals and in their relationship. It wasn't insta-love (more like insta-lust), but it was paced and believable and that's what made me love it.

“What did we teach you about trusting family?”
“We can only trust each other. Nobody else,” he repeated by rote.
“That’s right. The world is full of people who use you and cast you aside. The only ones you can trust without question or hesitation are family, but that only works if you tell each other the truth always and in all things. There are no such things as white lies made to spare feelings. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
“Yes.”

This book showed Trevor's growth by him realising though his parents' relationship is pretty fucked up, they still care for one another and they have taught him a valuable lesson when it comes to family. That they stay beside you.
In my opinion this part is a bit idyllic, it would be great if all families understood this and this was true is all cases but the real world isn't like that. In the real world your family can turn your back on you, not be there in the first place or having them can be worse than not having them.
In both Trevor and Ford's case... they were lucky.

What did I hate about it?

Nothing really.
I loved Trevor's spontaneity, his forwardness, his .
I loved Ford. He was completely adorable and the shy thing worked for him. He's in the closet, didn't see any way out for such a long time, never the possibility that one day he might have what his parents did, true love.
These two complete each other and I love them both for it. It is so rare to like both MCs but this is one of those cases.

“So you threatened him?”
“I’m not sure threatened is the right word.” Trevor clasped his hands together and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. “Yes, I guess it is the right word.” He nodded. “I threatened him. He went away. Problem solved.”

Which brings us to the following Q: Do I recommend it?
Yes.
Yes.
...Yes.
This is such a cute story, and if my gushing over how much I love both Trevor and Ford together isn't enough to give this clue - then I will spell it out for you.
R.E.C.O.M.M.E.N.D.E.D
Though please keep in mind... This is a sweet, fluffy, cute-sy type story. The angst is pretty minimal and you'll be finished with it pretty quickly. If you want something awe-inspiringly amazing, then keep it for a rainy day.

So, did reading this book add anything meaningful to my life?

Go hard or go home
Trevor's can do attitude is inspiring. His taking risks and raking in the pay-offs is motivating.
Ford's courage to stand by his man and resolve never to have him show is amazing.

What this book added to my life is that sometimes you need to go after what you want with everything you've got. Once you have something you wouldn't trade anything for the world, make sure to keep it, hold it tight and don't let go. All I hope is that one day, maybe I can do the same.
