I consider DK's 'Night Sky' an ideal little book, especially for those new to astronomy. It briefly covers the basics and it includes both northern and southern hemispheres. Irrespective of any level of knowledge and optical equipment, anyone can find this handy pocket size publication quite useful.
While in possession of this book from the library, I utilised the constellation section to go deep sky with my 200mm SCT.
