A trail of danger and dreams…

She may be an heiress, but Parker Promise Sinclair cares more about living an adventurous life than snaring a suitable husband. So it’s no surprise when she joins a Wyoming wagon trail—only to survive a massacre that leaves her with no memory, a target on her back—and her abiding faith tested by the only man who can possibly protect her.

His gunfighting skills and trail savvy have saved U.S. Marshal Jake McBride more times than he can count. And his instincts tell him the only way to keep Promise alive is to take her along on his high-stakes cattle drive. But she soon proves she can ride and shoot with the best of them—and Jake finds it increasingly difficult to keep himself from falling for her. Soon, with danger closing in, they'll have only one chance to face their doubts, their fears—and their growing love…

Because I read so many books, most authors fall into predictable patterns in their plotlines. Scarlett Dunn seems to have thrown away the mold. This is a unique cattle drive -- that becomes the backdrop to a whole other adventure. Promise and Matthew Sinclair are travelling to Colorado with a small wagon train. Unfortunately, the small band of travelers are religious and believe that God will protect them and do not take weapons. When one gabby traveler tells strangers they are taking all their earthly belongings, the strangers decide to rob them.

Unfortunately, the robbers kill everyone, except Promise, and tear the train apart looking for money. The women had sewn their money into their dresses and their treasure wasn't found. Indians came upon the robbers and they left. Jake McBride, leader of a cattle drive, heard the gunshots and found Promise, badly hurt. When the robbers found out there was someone who lived, they dogged the cattle drive, trying to kill the only one who could identify them. They were figuring she still had the money also.

At the same time, Victoria, Cole McBride's wife (from the first story), is pregnant and having a difficult time. Promise needs to hide out from the robbers for several months and decides to accompany the McBrides to their home in Wyoming, and take care of the bed-bound woman until the birth of her first child. When a man claiming to be Promise's fiance arrives at the ranch, this sets the stage for conflict between Jake and Charles Worthington.

I just wish all the lead characters weren't so startlingly beautiful and ruggedly handsome. It seemed so unnecessary and shallow. Overall score = 4.5 stars.

Parker Promise Sinclair is traveling with friends and family to the West but before she gets to her stop the wagon train is wiped out by a gang of outlaws, who shot her in the head. The gang can't find the money they knew was being carried and they think everyone is dead. Promised was found by former US Marshall, Jake McBride. McBride and he, along with the men on his cattle drive nurse the beautiful lady back to this side of the dirt, but she has a temporary case of amnesia leading to a very intimate friendship turned relation by Promise and the former US Marshall. The Western is surrounded by a love story McBride is the only one unaware of. Can he save the woman he is meant to be with from heading back home, with a man who has loved her forever? Can the cattle drive succeed? So many questions.

I really enjoyed while Promise is on the cattle drive and struggling with no memory. Their chemistry is fantastic, though it did border on racy. Once they get home though, Jake got into stubborn denial so badly that it got frustrating and seemed to drag onto the end.

I loved "Finding Promise".

I am thrilled I found The McBride Brothers Series. I loved book one but just finished Finding Promise. It was such a good historical western romance. I loved Jake and Promises characters and their journey to happiness. I can't wait to start book three!

The beginning was good but it became a little long winded and repetitive as it went on. It focused on Jake being an idiot a lot much more than Promise and Jake's relationship.

Scarlett Dunn has another wonderful book in Finding Promise. Jake McBride, retired US Marshall, is driving a large herd of cattle back to Wyoming, planning to join his brother Colt (from book 1) on the family ranch. Jake encounters a devastating scene and rescues Promise from what may be a very difficult situation, and possibly even death. Although it slows his journey considerably, Jake doesn’t mind the extra time or effort to care for her and keep her safe.

Promise traveled West to visit relatives in Denver, and was anxious to spend time drawing and painting the beauty of the West, even hoping to encounter some authentic cowboys for inspiration. Her journey has been filled with both known and unknown dangers, but with Jake she feels much more secure.

Through a variety of circumstances, Promise ends up in Wyoming at the McBride ranch with the newly reunited McBride brothers. While everyone can see that Promise and Jake care deeply for one another, and Promise is willing to acknowledge it, Jake is not. Believing that Jake doesn’t care for her, Promise avoids Jake, and Jake, believing Promise has an interest in another man, avoids her.

Much happens to add interest and adventure to the running storyline, and you can’t help but root for them as a couple, but shake your head as time and again they find a way to stay apart. I loved that this book brings back characters from Promises Kept (Colt and Victoria’s story), and done in a solid, meaningful way that incorporates their continuing story rather than just a quick glimpse of their life like what so often happens in series books. (This is a stand-alone book, you need not have read Colt’s story, but if you have, you will enjoy peeking in on their lives.)

Overall, very well done. Thank you to the author and publisher for an ARC, from which this review is based, in exchange for an honest review.

It 's a novel clean, romantic but full of adventure and suspense with an amazing heroine and brave a cowboy
Jack is retired US Marshall and was away from home for many years. With his men is carrying a large herd, he wants to reach his brother and work together at the ranch. He is faced with a scary scene: a caravan is attacked and and travelers are all dead, the only survivor is a really nice girl. Jack rescues and brings in his camp. The woman remains unconscious for a few days but when she wakes up he discovers that she has lost her memory. The little that Jack knows about her, he has discovered reading her travel diary. Promise feels that she can trust this man so generous, sweet and loyal and entrusted to him her life. She is in danger and the only way to save her is to take her with them to Promise, his brother's ranch. Between Jack and Promise there is a strong attraction but he is so determined to hide it and walks away from her more and more. Will they build a family or will divide forever?
Promise is a very beautiful woman but very unique: is able to shoot, loves to ride and preferred to paint rather than go to dances. She's a really lovable characters, I love her. At the beginning I also loved Jack, was a brave and loyal man but when her persisted in hiding his feelings for Promise was almost unbearable.
This is the second book in this series although I have not read book 1, it in no way disrupted my enjoyment of this book.
I recommend it if you love clean romantic stories with cowboys and brave women. .

This book is suitable for a large audience as it is filled with suspense and action but does not contain any lurid sex scenes and is not filled with swearing (unless you count damn or hell as curse words and even then it is limited.) What is great about this series is that you are not required to have read the first book for it to make sense. The story follows Promise from her estate in North Carolina, on the wagon trail and the cow drive to her aunt and uncle's ranch then to the McBride ranch. You cannot help but to hurt for Promise during her heartbreak of the loss of her brother then Jake pushing her away. All characters were believable and the scene with Shorty in a dress was hilarious.
"'Shorty you make a real pretty woman,' Jake teased. Snorting, Shorty grumbled, 'I don't know how women wear this gear! I'm all trussed up. That Mrs. Wellington could have made this dang thing a little bigger,' he said, tugging at the bodice of the dress that had been altered to fit him. 'And I can't see nothing wearing this war bonnet! How in blue blazes do women see where they're going wearing these things on their heads?'"
Overall this was a great book set in the western cowboy era. I highly recommend this book to those who like strong cowboys and determined, brave heiresses.

The McBride Brothers series by Scarlett Dunn is well worth your time. I read the first book in the series and liked it very much. I have just finished the second book in the series “Finding Promise”. This book hits the ground running and never stops. I am amazed that one author can envision so many plots and problems for one hero and one heroine. I am eagerly waiting for the next book in the series which will be about the youngest McBride brother, Luke. Ms. Dunn has a way with western historical romances. The west was a wild and woolly place back in the day and we are provided with a montage of them throughout the book. I recommend this author and her novels.

I received a print copy of this book from NightOwlReviews.com in return for my honest review. You can find this review on my blog at http://wp.me/p2pjIt-j8. Other reviews can be found at http://imhookedonbooks.wordpress.com.

Second verse, same as the first! I was disappointed when reading Finding Promise because it does have promise. I read the previous book in the series by Scarlett Dunn and enjoyed the book OTHER than the fact that there is swearing in the book and there is no actual faith revelations throughout the book. So I decided to give her next book a try in hopes of redemption but unfortunately, found more swears words (more than the first book) and a passing mention of God here and there.

I can officially say I gave it try and move on from this author.

I really liked Jake I thought he was a good guy, “you’re a beautiful woman, and much too tempting for a man to be alone with in a wagon,” he said lightly. “Asleep or awake.” I liked this book I loved Jake, he was a sweet man.
