National Geographic's Walking Rome, 2nd edition, The Best of the City, is a great guide that is small enough to just pop into your handbag or tote while you visit Rome. My husband and I are planning a trip to Italy which includes Rome for our 35th anniversary. Thus, I decided to buy this guide, and I am glad I did! This guide discusses "in depth" The Villa Borghese which houses "a stunning collection" of Renaissance art, and we are going to see this collection. Thus, it is exciting to me to be able to read about a place we are to visit. This guide has neighborhood maps, info for a day in Rome, a weekend as well as Rome for fun and Rome for "a weekend with kids". I like this guide, and I recommend it for those heading to Rome.
A slim little volume that's easy to pack and bring along. Not exactly "in-depth" and often somewhat light on information (and on the rare occasion simply inaccurate) this guide does offer nicely curated walking itineraries in a city that can seem overwhelming.
Really useful if you find yourself in the city with only a couple of days to try and get all the big things in. I wouldn't recommend this being your only guide because it does suffer from being a bit light on information, but doing some light reading from other guides or online made carrying this light and packable volume a great guide for basic maps and ideas.
