Kayla has loved sweet, gorgeous Ben since elementary school. Since he become her brother’s best friend, and helped her build her tree fort, and unplug the toilet … and do all the stuff she couldn’t get her brother to do. In fact, the only thing she couldn’t seem to get hot, yummy Ben to do was notice that she was more than his best friend’s little sister.
THEN, in high school, right when it seems Ben might actually finally be noticing (maybe) that Kayla is a girl (and face it, adorable), Kayla’s beautiful, cheerleading, best friend, Sabrina, decides SHE wants Ben. UGH!!! Sabrina always gets what she wants … but what does BEN want???—the cheerleader, or his best friend’s forbidden little sister? He’s dating Sabrina, but more and more his lingering stare is on Kayla. (!!!)

I liked this book, and feel like the bullying from the other girls was pretty realistic. Also, the way guys don't realize that they are dating mean girls. I appreciated the way she figured out how to make real friends and became strong enough not to put up with the fake friends.
I enjoyed this story with all the characters that were within this book. The main two characters were Kayla and Ben.
Kayla has liked Ben since elementary school. He is her brother best friend. Now that she is in high school, she still likes Ben. But he is dating her best friend. One night while at a party, Ben finds her hiding in the coat closet. She doesn't want to be seen by a certain boy. Ben offers her a ride home. She decides to take it. The next day, she lies to her best friend that is give her problems. This lie changes her life.
This was a fun story to read. It had action, suspense, surprises, and drama throughout. There were a few giggles within.
I saw this story and decided to try it. This is my honest, unbiased opinion.
Kayla's brother moved to live with their father in Connecticut. His best friend, Ben, still hung out with her anyway. She'd had a crush on him since they were kids but never did anything about it. They would never date because he thought of her as if they were siblings. Kayla's best friend, Sabrina, had Kayla help her when she decided that she wanted to date Ben. Sabrina, along with their other friend, Jazz, treated Kayla terribly. Kayla was hiding from Jacob at a party in a closet. Ben found her and took her home. On the way, she confessed that she didn't want to kiss anymore boys because they were always sticking their tongues down her throat making it a traumatic experience for her. Ben let her know that they were all doing it wrong and someday it wouldn't be so bad.
Kayla was clueless, immature, and very self-deprecating. It was difficult to read with all of her spazzy thoughts. She let her "friends" treat her bad and never really stood up to them. She tried, but only half-heartedly. They walked all over her. It was just too unrealistic for high schoolers. The maturity levels of the main female characters were of early middle schoolers. I didn't like that at all. There wasn't any realistic depth to the characters, including Ben. I could go on about what I didn't like but I have other things to do right now.
The book was in Kayla's POV with poor editing at times.
Warning: This review contains back handed compliments.
This story was a lot like Melanie Marks' s other books in that it was a sweet, quick, clean read. It also shared some characters with her other books since most of them seem to be set in the same universe. Thankfully, it was unlike her other books in that these two main characters didn't share all of the same personality traits as most of her other characters. This story and these two characters were a little more original than her others. That was refreshing. This story does follow the same style of writing though so whether or not you like this one is dependent on whether you like any of her other books. If your heart, for some inexplicable reason, is touched by her sweet high school stories of hidden love and devotion, despite the writing style being less than perfect, you'll love this one...or at least like it. If you haven't enjoyed her other books, you won't like this one either. I did like this book and most of her other books too (not the middle school books. I refuse to read those.). I don't know what it is about her books but I can't seem to put them down while simultaneously being ashamed to read/enjoy them.
It was cute, easy read but not my favourite. Now the excerpt at the end about Mason, and him reading the diary- I loved that! Def just bought Louder than Words, hoping it has something to do with that.
I really wanted to like this book because I love this theme. However, the book was all over the place and there wasn't much of a storyline or plot development, making it difficult to enjoy the book.
