There is just something about Eros that I gravitated towards in this story. Maybe it was his darkness, the ability for him to be vulnerable with someone from his childhood, or his need to protect Amber.
This is a short story, so there are some things such as the "side job" that Eros has that leave some things up to the imagination, but the point is made!
I liked that Amber was able to take back that control and you saw some of the things that she went through in her previous relationship.
If you like your men spicy, morally gray, and gets the job done, this is one for you.

I received an Advanced Reading Copy of Roots, and this story turned out to be an enjoyable read that I devoured much quicker than I initially expected. What is there to say about Eros and Amber? These two are broken people in their own right, but their sharp edges fit together perfectly to create a whole new picture.
It was fascinating to see how they both dared to let their masks slip around each other until they showed every ugly part of themselves. I don't want to give away too much of the plot, but I can assure you: seeing their growth together and the way they complement each other was wholesome in a way I hadn't expected at first. Yes, the story does delve into darker topics, and you should read the trigger warnings carefully. But the overall ride is incredibly satisfying to follow.
If I have a single regret about this book, it's how quickly it came to an end. Not because the pacing of the story is off—it works perfectly. I was just so invested that I finished it before I even realized I was nearing the end.
The side characters are also neatly woven into the narrative. Many shorter stories tend to struggle with delivering the right amount of background information and detail. In Roots, it always feels “just right”. The characters never remain vague, nor are you spammed with unnecessary information. Overall, if you want a story that will keep you entertained for a weekend while showing how love can empower two people, this read is for you.

Where to begin....
This book has me wanting to see a dentist. It has triggers and tropes of my favorite kind. The story is incredible and i loved every second. Just wish I could read it again for the first time.
