This book is a great insight to revival, personal and corporate. I love the focus on personal prayer, passion and commitment to God's Word and seeking after God. To the Christian who is desperate for God and wants to live a life sold out for God, this book is a true gem. I found it encouraged me and painted a clear picture of the Brownsville revival. The Fire That Never Sleeps was well-written and another great book by Dr. Michael Brown....I wish I could give it 4.5 stars, but Amazon won't let me! Definately a book worth a look!
A wonderful book on revival! I'd describe the book as truthful, heartfelt encouraging, powerful, firm, stirring, insightful and above all God honouring and Biblical.
It's a book I read in one day, because I could not put it down. I read it in Ebook format, but I liked it so much I think I'll have to buy a hard copy. If I wanted to try and explain Revival, this is the book that does it for me.
Sometimes these books can feel like a look at us kind of book, that if you just follow this formula then you'll be getting the revival as well. But this book isn't one of them. This book will leave you inspired to seek revival from God and hungry for His presence and glory.
This book challenges the lukewarm church of our day, those of us who've lost their first love. We need revival in this dark hour, and this book challenges us deeply. A must read for all believers who are tired of where their walk is, and who want more!
This is a wonderful book that will help you to see what changes you need to make in your walk with the Lord in order to bring about, first, personal revival and, second, revival in the church. When I say "church", I am not referring to that place you go to on a Sunday, but the entire body of Christ. We desperately need that fire that never sleeps if we are to see any real change in ourselves, our churches, our nation, our world. This book will help light that fire! So, again I say, "if you are hungry for more...", get this book. Study it. Absorb the knowledge in it. It will lead you closer to finding what you are craving--more of God.
I've had this book on my saved for later thing for like a year. It ended up going on sale for 99 cents in the destiny image email, so I finally got it. So glad I did! It's a phenomenal book that shakes you out of the mediocre that we consider normal, and raises the bar to a biblical normal. Highly recommended read.
This book was amazing. True insight into past revival and what is needed for revival today. I had this on audible and could not stop listening. Amazing read for anyone interested in Revival.
Revelations abound in this wonderful book. I would highly recommend it to any true believer who wonders why they aren't doing the work that Jesus Commissioned us to do and what has happened to our power and zeal. Praise God for this wonderful book!
I was privileged to be in many services at Brownsville but as we often have a tendency to enjoy and cherish such experiences; we don't usually take time to learn the needed lessons. This book is more than a reminder of the past revival that touched the world but a guide to cultivate what we experienced and should be still experiencing. Whether you attended the revival or not this book will stir and encourage you toward more.
This outstanding book provides both the background to the Brownsville revival that started in 1995 and an outline to how every believer can be experiencing revival in their own personal lives. Michael Brown is a scholar of revival and John Kilpatrick was one of the pastors intimately involved in Brownsville. They know what they're talking about having both experienced revival first hand but studied the history of revival throughout the last two hundred or so years incorporating insights from such people as Charles Wesley, Charles Finney, William Booth, George Whitfield, Leonard Ravenhill, A. W. Tozer, and D. L. Moody.
The books starts with an sobering perspective of the modern church. "The world is actually evangelising the church." was a line that struck me as being true where we've allowed the culture of the time to play too prominent a role in the church. We can be discouraged by this or we can look upon it with much hope. Jesus loves the church and will not let it fall. The potential for revival is enormous.
Kilpatrick then describes how he started praying for revival and then takes us into the days (and years) of when the Presence of the Lord was thick upon his congregation. Here was a man who consecrated his life to Jesus and desired for the Lord to be glorified not just in his church but in the years beyond. As the authors repeatedly state, the true measure of revival isn't about the manifestations of the Spirit but the ongoing transformation of the people years after the events.
They may define revival as a "season of unusual Divine visitation" however, in this book they stress that revival should be the norm for Christians. We should all be living like the first church did in Acts. Accordingly, the world would be transformed by the glory of God.
I couldn't put this book down. It has birthed a desire for More, just like David in Psalm 27. More of His Presence, more of Jesus in my life. With practical strategies on how to recharge and maintain a heart on fire for Jesus, this book is a little gem and has re-energised my desire for More of the Lord in my prayer life.
"Revival and revolution go hand in hand. When the church is truly revived, it will have a revolutionary impact on the culture."
