Readers can enjoy the 52 consecutive, weekly covers from the comic book "52" in one volume. This collection comes complete with commentary by the artist and thumbnail sketches, background information, and more.
Perfect for the coffee table, or as a companion volume to your 52 trades (or even better: the 52 Omnibus), I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the creative process; in the evolution of a cover, from conception to finished product; in sampling the 58* covers used for DC Comics' 52 series. This out-of-print**, deluxe-sized hardcover is a real gem. Artist JG Jones comments on each illustration, providing background/concept evolution info.
Tastes will differ, but one thing is sure: you are sure to find something you like. I found something to like in most of them, but if I had to choose, I would say that my personal favourites are the covers of weeks 12 (below), 20, 34, 42, 44, 46, 51, as well as the covers for the second and third trade paperback collections.
*: that would be 52 covers for the weekly issues, 4 for the original 4 trade paperbacks, and 1 for the novelised version, and 1 made specially for an edition of the Comics Buyer's Guide.
**: fans of DC Comics' 52 series, fans of JG Jones, or - even simpler - fans of 'good art' in general will find getting a copy of this book well worth the trouble.
This book is an essential learning for how to draw a cover in graphic novels career. J.G Jones had the responsability to finish a cover a week during one year.
