More re-reading college era art history. What I found most interesting this time were the sections where they had collected articles and newspaper reviews from the time. You can be reading the erudite feminist analysis from Parker & Pollack and enjoying the range of women artists and their work depicted thinking how great this all is and what interesting things were going on back then.
Then cut to an article from the London Evening Standard or some such, reviewing an exhibition and you suddenly remember oh its 1975 and how grim it was - why are women even allowed to make art, this is rubbish blah blah 100 words of shite fired out by Derek Misogynist-Hack.
Such a great book and resource. I am already a huge fan of Parker's writing, so this catalogue was right up my alley. The Primary source documents in here are invaluable - especially those covering Feministo, and other early feminist exhibitions. Must read for anyone interested in feminist art, craft based activism, women's contributions to art, and feminism.
