”What a beautiful little liar.”
This is my first read by this author and I’m happy to report that I enjoyed her writing style. The hero, Jackson Gray is DBC Sports Network’s senior analyst (football) and his fall for the new sideline report Leila Hart. These two’s fall into love was pretty swoon-worthy. The sports content in this story is well done written, however it went over my head seeing how they are both analyst's of the game.
The story starts with the hero, Jackson only ever committing to one night stands … you know the spiel.
Jackson and Leila’s fall into a “perfectly, and perfectly chaste friends-with-snuggle-benefits relationship. Or cuddle buddies for short.” However, their attraction for one another hasn’t diminished but these two are each holding a secret a piece from the other and so crossing the line still seems like a bad idea.
”Believe me when I tell you that if I could be more for anyone in the world…it’d be you. I’d want to be that man for you. I dream of being that man for you.”
When these two finally throw caution to the wind and embrace all that they are together the author had me glued to each page.
”He didn’t just touch, he savored. He didn’t just look, he admired. He could communicate with her body via a single glace expand her heart to double its size with a few softly murmured words.”
Secrets… both main characters have one and when they come to light the two recently turned couple who just get their footing drama ensues which I totally didn’t see coming. This drama felt kind of out of left field and a bit odd in the story and honestly I’m processing how all events could lead to the heroine in the hospital and her role in it?
Jackson’s hot guy pals (who I assume will get their own books in this series) help him and Leila get back on track and move on from the drama and pain. Overall, I did like the writing, had a few good quotes highlighted, and would read the next book in the series.

Where do I even begin?
Based on the blurb alone, this book was a solid 4 stars. I mean, a gorgeous sports analyst with secret meets feisty, upcoming field reporter with a head for sports stats. They're forced to work together while keeping their attraction under wraps. Sounds like a good, solid plot for a romance novel. Sure, the writing was more on the side "telling" instead of showing but it was still a decent read. There were a few annoying plot contrivances that crop up here and there but I could still ignore it. For the most part.
But then these little plot contrivances became downright annoying very fast until it came to a point where I was rage reading just to finish it.
Annoying plot contrivance #1
The heroine is a sports junkie who happens to really be good at stats. I appreciated that. What I didn't appreciate however was the fact that since "she loves football" she's not "like those other girls". I have no idea what that means anymore but just to reiterate the point that this girl is so "speshul", the author had to remind readers that the heroine has so many friends but she has ZERO female friends on Facebook. ZERO. NADA. NONE. ZILCH.
The hero was mighty impressed by this. Why? I have no idea but apparently, having zero female friends on Facebook means she's not like "those other girls." Again. Whatever the fuck that means, I still don't know. But don't worry. The hero promised the heroine that he will introduce her to girls who are also like her. Meaning have no female friends on Facebook. Hero thinks they'll get along so great because you know, they have that in common.
OMG. My mind just went—'wait. So, if they're gonna be friends then each of them are gonna be friends on Facebook and shit and oh my God…finally, girl powrr! Rawrr!
Unfortunately, that didn't happen because the hero forgot. He just forgot about introducing her to his female friends. So…yeah.
Annoying plot contrivance #2.
#2 is related to number 1. The way the other female characters are portrayed in the book was trite and clichéd. They are either portrayed manipulators out to seduce the menfolk into marrying them and the other half are portrayed as nitwits with stars in their eyes swooning at every guy. When I say every guy, I meant, the hero.
Annoying plot contrivance #3
#3 happened around 40% or what I would like to call as the place where everything went from annoying to just downright bizarre. I was hit by plot twist so out of left field it left me dazed and confused. Well, mostly just confused. It was an Lol-wut moment for me.
I'm not gonna spoil this for you partly because I'm daring you to read this book. And second, whatever you're thinking the plot twist is…just don't because I'm pretty sure that what you're thinking right now is wrong.
What you're thinking: He's a serial killer.
Me: Nope. He's not a serial killer.
What you're thinking: Oh, oh! He's like Walter White.
Me: Look at you! Very creative, but NOPE.
What you're thinking: Oh he's a secret prince from a secret kingdom who wants to secret baby with the heroine.
Me: *looks at you with pity* Close but no. *whispers Jackson's secret*
What you're thinking: What? Why?
Me: I rest my case.
It's not that the secret was an implausible one because this is fiction after all. But there was no sense of why IT HAS to be a secret. Why? I kept reading because I wanted to know if the hero has a good reason for keeping it a secret. And no, the whole "I kept it a secret because I don't trust women" just doesn't fly. The whole thing was CONTRIVED.
And it changed the tone of the whole book. Suddenly, the office romance thing with a side of sports became a...a...hmm...not sure what exactly it became but I hated it.
But wait! There's another plot twist around 70-ish% which again changed the whole tone of the book. This one was even more bizarre than the first. Just...I don't even know what to say. At this point, I just was annoyed. And tired. But mostly annoyed that I actually went and finish the whole damn book.

The book starts off a little slow for me with a good deal of the plot not really moving the story forward. The first few chapters read very much like a big monologue and one that didn't really captivate me, at that. Things started getting interesting for me when at 21%, they finally kiss. From there, you get a little more insight into the characters though Jackson's reluctance to get with Leila isn't really explained. He warns her off many times (to the point that it gets kind of annoying) and she is still very sweet to him and an all around cool chick. I did like how they got to know one another before jumping into bed, even after a scorching kiss, and that Leila makes him believe and expect more from himself before she allows them to move forward together. The plot started out really sweet and then just went a little out there in the blink of an eye. Jackson's secret and the scope in which it was taken caught me off guard. Not because I didn't expect something like that, but because an element was added towards the end that really felt unnecessary to the story. Jackson's friends were interesting and annoying in an endearing way lol The book definitely had its moments but overall I felt like something was missing. It definitely wasn't missing from the love scenes, even ones interrupted, which were all plenty hot. I'm sad to say that this was just not for me. Safety gang: No OW/OM though the monologue starts off with mention of a date Jackson had been on and couldn't stop thinking about the new girl (Leila). Condoms until they mutually decide to exclude them. No rape / abuse.
This is one of my favorite moments:
Brushing his thumb against her cheek, he gazed into her eyes, lit with amusement. "I don't like you making sacrifices for me."
"Oh good, so we're agreed." She graced him with a sassy smile. "No more morning blowjobs and cuddling after sex, then? That's a relief."
...
"Woman, we both like to cuddle. And might I remind you that you're the one who had an orgasm in the middle of giving me a blowjob."

2 Underwhelmed Stars
This review is going to stay on the short and sweet side. I’m going to do my best not to give away any spoilers, even though the issues that bothered me the most relate to those damn spoilers. Gah! Stay with me, folks.
Leila’s a woman who knows her football. Even though she’s a vagina carrying member of the population, she’s been lucky enough to be given a shot at her dream job, which is normally dominated by those of the cock and balls variety.
When Jackson and Leila meet her first day on the job, its lust at first sight. Despite the fact that Leila doesn’t mix business with pleasure and Jackson’s carrying around some hefty secrets (secrets, dammit!) the two fall into a “friends with cuddle benefits” type of deal. Yeah, because that usually ends up working.
“Sunshine, you make me want things I shouldn’t hope for, shouldn’t even imagine I can keep.”
Eyes wide , voice barely louder than a secret, she asked, “Like what?”
He went with the answer at the very top of his list. “You.”
So, let’s start with the stuff I enjoyed. The initial banter between Jackson and Leila was good and served to make the relationship work for me. I never questioned whether or not these two had actual emotions invested rather than just being DTF. I liked the fact that the friendship went along with the lust. The writing in general’s not bad, either.
Then I hit the 45% mark and the train officially jumped the tracks.
My initial reaction was a lot of this
Then a little of this
Then finally this
It felt like I was reading two different books.
When Jackson’s “secrets” were finally revealed, the book turned into just another excuse to use a ridiculous trope I’m so incredibly tired of. The book basically went from being a cute, somewhat entertaining romance to a clichéd and convoluted mess in literally the blink of an eye. Events and plot points were left underdeveloped and the last 25% ended up being one large and in charge clusterf**k.
While this is obviously not my cuppa, Jackson’s Trust is a trigger free romance so those worried about that can rest assured. Though it looks like most of my goodreads friends that have read it enjoyed this one, it simply didn’t work for me.

4 - "Kindred spirits and all." Stars!
Jackson’s Trust is the first book I have read by this author, it is also the first book in the Fourth Down series. I love me some sports romance, and this one was a little different in that it was set around the people that report on it, and not the players or their teams.
This book was in the realms of a five star read for me, until the last 25% or so, but the author stepped into WTF overload territory with both feet by throwing a kitchen sink worth of erroneous tropes into the mix, and everything that then occurred just took the book from a really enjoyable romance between a couple with a huge amount in common, but a few obstacles, not to mention some whopping great secrets in their path to completely over the top, and a bit crowded.
"I want to be just like you when I grow up."
It didn’t detract from my enjoyment per se, but I just don’t think that as a couple they needed all the added baggage from the issues that played out in the latter stages of the book, because by that point everything they were already dealing with was enough, and I didn’t feel that they really needed anymore.
"You make me want things I shouldn’t hope for, shouldn’t even imagine I can keep."
There was a pretty spectacular amount of build up between Jackson and Leila as well, the author gave them a chance to get to know each other first with lots of flirting and banter as work colleagues, but the sexy times when they did occur were stellar, there is absolutely no doubt that Violet can bring the chemistry, sizzle and show-down between her couples when it comes to the before, during and after getting down and dirty.
"I think I pulled a muscle."
Bennett’s Chance is the next book due in the series, Bennett being one of Jackson’s close friends figured quite a bit in this book, and along with Donovan, Owen and Shane share an apartment building. The banter between them was great although Donovan is the only other one of them you are introduced to at this point, I am looking forward to seeing what sort of book the author gives him as he was pretty funny in this one.

Leila Hart is determined to make a name for herself in the male-dominated world of football. She knows that it won't be easy, but she is determined. It doesn't hurt that she knows her stuff and shocks the hell out of her colleagues. The only one not shocked about her football IQ is Jackson Gray, the man assigned to train her.
Jackson's life is complicated. And making it more so is cute-as-hell Leila. The more time he spends with the new sideline reporter, the more he wishes his life could be different. He is just waiting for the other shoe do drop, and he doesn't want to bring anyone , especially Leila, down the rabbit hole with him. But as their relationship switches from just a work friendship to a "friend-with-cuddle-benefits", Jackson finds it harder and harder to stay away from the one woman worth giving up everything for.

I really enjoyed this story.
This is the first book I've read by the author. The story and the characters were well written and developed.
A good start for a new sports-romance series. In this case, however, the H/h are not players, but both are football analysts and one a sports reporter.
The story is a "semi"-slow burn romance. So, the H/h start out as friends and then eventually transition to lovers.
Both lead characters have deep secrets they're hiding, but as time goes by and trust is earned - they both begin to let down their barriers and open up to one another.
I really liked the little twist the author threw into the story near the end.
The story and the characters had me engaged right until the very end.
Good read :)

To say that this book was disappointing might just be an understatement. Violet Duke has written some really, really good books. This is not one of them. Have you ever read the back cover blurb for a book, thought "This sounds great", and then read the book and it was nothing like what the blurb led you to believe? Yeah, that's this book.
I actually really liked it for a while. The football talk (I'm a fan.) was cool. I liked that Leila wasn't some complete moron of a sideline reporter (too many of them in real life ask the stupidest questions). I liked her passion for the game and her passion for her job. I enjoyed the witty byplay between Leila and Jackson and her snappy answers to people who mattered (like coaches who didn't know her from Eve). I liked that she had made a name for herself in the football world. Jackson was pretty darn cool. He loved football too. He was a stats guy to match Leila. He was sweet and kind to everyone. It was a match made in heaven - except he only does sex, not relationships.
I liked the hiccup in Leila's rising star. It meshed with who she is as a character and worked well within the framework of her job. I thought that was handled very well. So far, the book is awesome and had it ended there with even an HFN, it would have earned at least 4 stars from me. But, the book didn't end there. It continued on into a trainwreck of epic proportions.
Once Jackson's secret came out, the whole book devolved into a ludicrous mess of implausibility and then outright "WTF-ery". The second half of the story deals with Jackson's secret and the monkey wrench that throws into his and Leila's romance. But, this is a romance novel so an HEA is a guarantee. The hoops that get jumped through to actually make it to an HEA are almost more crazy than the Jackson secret and scenario.
Honestly, I just want to get back to my analyst and sideline reporter story. I really liked that one. It had a lot going for it.
I really like Violet Duke's books. I've read a lot of them. This is definitely not the book to start with if you've never read her before. It's a hot mess.

I had to gather my thoughts on this one and also filter out half of the information that I highlighted to write my review. Annoying when you nearly highlight half of the damn frigging book. I would like to add that this is the first book that I've read by Ms. Duke and I consider her to be very talented.
But what I can say after a slow beginning but a genuinely fantastic read I give it 4.5 'Sunshine & Weatherman' Stars.
The first time Jackson Grey sees Leila Hart he knows that she is a fibber. He is one of the best book boyfriends that I have read this year and overall a superb guy, hot, good looking, a sense of humor and kindness. All very appealing. His inner musings are funny and very entertaining.
But he could honestly say he'd never once played second fiddle to an inanimate object. Never watched a woman stare, all hot and bothered. At his football stats the way Leila was doing right now. Damn he was in trouble with this one.
Leila always wanted to work as a reporter for the NFL events and she is grabbing this opportunity by the horns. There is instant attraction between them but they are adults about it and actually admit to the chemistry but say why they can’t act on it. She wants to be recognized for her job and he can't do relationships as he has a huge secret. He wants the whole white picket fence and 2.5 kids but has his reasons. See point 1. Under spoilers. But knows that he can only offer sex with breakfast until he realizes that he can offer more by Leila proving it to him.
But he can't help but be smitten with her even though he knows that it is a bad idea and that they work together.
This wasn't going to be easy. Because while he had absolutely no problem stepping back when a woman wasn't interested, Leila wasn’t disinterested. In fact, all evidence would point to her being about as interested as he was. She was just... off limits. A volatile combination.
There wasn't any unnecessary drama which I loved and all plot lines were within the realm of reasonability. Where not once did I think what the hell? And why would you do that?
Leila's family is awful and not to mention her ex who is a politician and a cheating, lying bastard at that. To leak her secret persona to the press was also an arse move.
Leila is smart and sassy and they both complimented one another really well. At the beginning and during the book they were as honest as they could be. They told one another no deep, dark secrets until they were both ready.
Leila actually makes the first move as she realizes when she goes back to Utah that she has missed Jackson and her family is bloody awful and non-supportive in every possible way.
They started off as 'A perfect, and perfectly chaste friends-with-snuggle-benefits relationship.
I liked how their relationship progressed and that they faced everything together, well nearly everything. Leila made a deal with the devil but in the end didn’t go through with it and paid the price as being used as a human shield.
Three excruciating days later she is out of the woods.
But Jackson blames himself.
Sunshine,
No one-not one mortal man in your heaven, or my hell-will ever love you as much as I do … but I want you to at least get the chance to find someone who will try.

They both go to the extreme for one another and give each a happily ever after. They are each other’s happily ever after. Even after she broke Jackson’s trust. All the time she didn’t care about his money unlike others.
I know it’s your entire family legacy but I never really bought into the whole billionaire hype.” Jackson’s mouth twitched up at the corner. “As if I didn’t already have enough reasons to adore the heck out of you.”
But what Leila writes, oh my gawd!

I predict this will help you build that big, amazing life you so richly deserve. Screw your family legacy. Make your own. Greatness you’ll achieve- I have no doubt of that. Happiness is trickier. You need to believe that it has a place in your life, and trust that you deserve it. Because it does and you do. No more running. Just… be happy.

There were two points that were really unexpected for me in the plot with two twists and turns. See spoilers below if you are really interested in knowing what it is.
I wanted the ending to be a little more hashed out what with the whole 'them’ shite. I found it lacking. Suddenly everything is dandy and bam! Happy days!
I look forward to the coming books with Donovan, Owen, Bennett and Shane. I can’t wait to see Bennett fall. Oh and I hope the Bodyguard Mike gets a book as well.

For those of you have issues with o/w it does get mentioned that he slept with a different woman every night for a couple of days only once he'd met the heroine. Personally it didn't bother me at all.

This is a well written, captivating story with characters that touched my heart. What drew me to this book was that it is about the world of sports and I love to read about sports and athletes. This is the first Violet Duke book I have read and I enjoyed it so much, I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future.
The story opens up when Leila Hart lands her dream job as a sideline reporter for DBC Sports Network. She will be working for Jackson Gray who is a senior analyst at the network. Jackson admires everything about Leila from the moment he meets her. She is every man’s dream; she is gorgeous, smart and knows and loves football as much as Jackson does.
The more I learned about Jackson and Leila, the more I liked them. Although there is incredible chemistry flowing between them their relationship builds slowly and their relationship goes through many ups and downs before they can finally be together. These two care about each other so much they are willing to make any sacrifice and I really admire that about them. The problem is they each have secrets they don’t share with anyone.
Jackson is a wonderful guy and I love the way he treats Leila. He is smart and cares about her more than himself, plus he has a sexy growly voice. He respects Leila and her football knowledge and treats her like an equal and Leila appreciates it, most of the men she encounters dismiss her because she is a woman. She and Jackson hit it off from the moment they meet, but Jackson continually tries to hold back from what he is feeling. Although Jackson would like to settle down one day, he knows he can’t.
I love Violet Duke’s voice and the dialogue between the characters. I was immediately immersed in their world and felt like I was right there with them. This story also has interesting secondary characters and I hope to see them in future books. This is the first book in the Fourth Down series and it is a standalone and I can’t wait to read more books in this series.

One thing I have to say about this book is just when you think you know what's going on, the storyline changes and going into Jackson's Trust, it doesn't seem like that type of book. There were parts of the story that I enjoyed and parts that I could have done without. Such as the all-things-football sections at the beginning. I'm not a sports fan. Therefore, I started liking the book better when there wasn't anymore technical talk about football.
Also, I felt that all the time gaps in those first few chapters should have been more apparent. What I mean by that is, to the reader, it felt as if they were falling in love way too fast but months and weeks had past that I didn't even know about. If the time gap would have been addressed right away, I probably wouldn't have a problem with it. Because I didn't know that all that time had passed, it made it harder for me to believe that Jackson was falling in love with Leila, especially because he was suppose to have been a bachelor for life type of guy.
However, later on into the story, it gets better and there are surprises. I was completely shocked at the 75% mark. I really did not see that one coming. It may have helped if there weren't so many twists in the latter part of the book but it doesn't really take away from the romance developing between the two main characters.
I enjoyed the banter with Donovan and Bennett, although they may not know what personal boundaries are. What are best friends for, right? They cracked me up though and I'm guessing this series will continue with their books so I will be keeping an eye out for the next books.
This is not really a sports romance but anyone who likes football will probably get into this book more than I did, at first anyway. There are a lot of really good reviews, so if this seems like your cup o' tea, then go for it!

It's no secret I am a huge Violet Duke fan and this book just adds to that admiration. It has all the feels you want from a great romance. It's fun, a little angsty, great characters, and a whole lot of sexy. Leila Hart is a strong female lead determined to make it in a male dominated career. Everything seems to come so easily to the incredibly yummy Jackson Gray but he has his own issues to deal with. The chemistry between these two is intense and you can definitely feel it jump from the pages. This is the start to what looks like an incredible new series from this author and I for one can't wait for more. I highly recommend this one.

This was a sexy fast paced love/hate story that drew me in from the beginning, especially when Jackson realizes he's in trouble with the new sideline reporter, Leila Hart!
Seeing how Jackson, at first, tries his best to ignore his attraction to Leila had me cracking up because she makes it impossible by proving to him that she knows her game!
Jackson's big secret as to why he doesn't do relationships, well, I didn't think it was that big of a deal but to each their own. One thing I loved about Jackson is how he did want what we all want: a family, yet due to his secret he feels he's not worthy of it.
Leila's attraction to Jackson was there as well, but she was there to do a job and to prove herself—and prove herself she did. I must say, I loved seeing their friendship blossom, and with that, their chemistry sizzled even more until it finally combusted!! Though they decided to give what they both feel for each other a chance, they have their ups and downs like any other relationship, but the question is, how will they react to those downs?
Now, no great book is without its drama, and Ms. Duke did not disappoint us there. A beautiful story of friendship, love, and allowing yourself to be happy for once. Oh, and that ending... LOVED IT!! ~ Kara, 4.5 stars

I have been a huge Violet Duke fan since the Can’t Resist series so when I was able to get an ARC of Jackson’s Trust, book one in the Fourth Down series, I was very excited!
Jackson’s Trust had a lot of the fun, quirky, sweet side that Ms. Duke is famous for, but it also was much steamier and sexier this time around.
We meet Jackson Gray, an all-around good guy who loves football. He works for a sports network and loves his job. When a new hire, Leila Hart, joins the team, he is smitten. And Jackson doesn’t do relationships.
Leila Hart is not your typical woman. She lives, breathes, and loves football. She has a knack for stats and is super excited about her new job as a sideline reporter. What she didn’t expect was an instant attraction to the man she has to work with closely on a daily basis, Jackson.
“Clearly, she’d need to keep her wits about herself if she didn’t want to accidently trip and fall into his bed. Or couch, or closet, or dark corner, added her imagination helpfully.”
The two fight their growing attraction, but do form a solid friendship. However, it leads to wanting much more.
“Sunshine, you make me want things I shouldn’t hope for, shouldn’t even imagine I can keep.”
This story had some unexpected secrets and twists come out. At times, I did feel that it moved a little quickly, and that there could have been more of a lead-up to certain situations. But overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was sweet, sexy, and Jackson was swoonworthy. I am looking forward to Bennett’s book next! ~ Tiffany, 4 stars

Intriguing series start…
I’m a bit perplexed as I try to write this review. Do you sometimes feel like you read two completely different stories in one book? This is that book.
The first half I was all in. Leila Hart and Jackson Gray had football in common, plus a mutual attraction that simmered amidst fun and flirty conversation. They both had ‘secrets’ they kept hidden but gave some context to some of the choices they made. The back and forth between them was stellar, and even the football lingo was not overwhelming, though there was a lot of it. Jackson is hard to resist as a sexy closet Robin Hood, looking out for his colleagues and especially Leila. She appreciated his quiet way of supporting her, something she was not used to at all.
They got along like a house on fire but Jackson was determined to not have anything more than a one night stand. Leila was equally determined to never go down that road. An impasse on the surface but they were also enjoying the friendship that was slowly building them.

With challenges at the network to keep them both on their toes, throw in Jackson’s best friends and you have fun, emotion and steam in equal measure.
Until… things seemed to take an unexpected, confusing turn. A plot twist I didn’t see coming opened up doors that, quite honestly, I wish had remained closed. The flavor and tone of the story changed and, with it, the characters I thought I was beginning to understand. The fun moments seemed out of place now and the flirty bits were long gone. Disappointing when, up to that point, the story was hitting so many high notes for me.
Despite that, I enjoyed so much of the book I will be reading more of the series. And I can’t help but wonder what is in store for Bennett…

This story had some unexpected secrets and twists come out. At times, I did feel that it moved a little quickly, and that there could have been more of a lead-up to certain situations. But overall, I really enjoyed this story. It was sweet, sexy, and Jackson was swoonworthy. I am looking forward to Bennett’s book next! ~ Tiffany, 4 stars

Intriguing series start…
I’m a bit perplexed as I try to write this review. Do you sometimes feel like you read two completely different stories in one book? This is that book.
The first half I was all in. Leila Hart and Jackson Gray had football in common, plus a mutual attraction that simmered amidst fun and flirty conversation. They both had ‘secrets’ they kept hidden but gave some context to some of the choices they made. The back and forth between them was stellar, and even the football lingo was not overwhelming, though there was a lot of it. Jackson is hard to resist as a sexy closet Robin Hood, looking out for his colleagues and especially Leila. She appreciated his quiet way of supporting her, something she was not used to at all.
They got along like a house on fire but Jackson was determined to not have anything more than a one night stand. Leila was equally determined to never go down that road. An impasse on the surface but they were also enjoying the friendship that was slowly building them.
“A perfect, and perfectly chaste friends-with-snuggle-benefits relationship…”
With challenges at the network to keep them both on their toes, throw in Jackson’s best friends and you have fun, emotion and steam in equal measure.
Until… things seemed to take an unexpected, confusing turn. A plot twist I didn’t see coming opened up doors that, quite honestly, I wish had remained closed. The flavor and tone of the story changed and, with it, the characters I thought I was beginning to understand. The fun moments seemed out of place now and the flirty bits were long gone. Disappointing when, up to that point, the story was hitting so many high notes for me.
Despite that, I enjoyed so much of the book I will be reading more of the series. And I can’t help but wonder what is in store for Bennett…

There's something about her, and the twinkle in her eye, that draws him to her and when she opens up her witty mouth he's a lost cause, even though he doesn't believe in anything more than one night stands. Leila never intended to develop feelings for a coworker, she's used to guy friends, but Jackson is another man entirely, he believes in her, even though he doesn't know everything about her. When secrets start being out in the open though, Leila and Jackson find themselves more than willing to push past their personal boundaries and enjoy their feelings for one another, both never expecting the other shoe to drop.
Sports romances can be really awesome or they can be a complete bust, it all depends on the reader and their true knowledge/love of the game and if the writer has really lived up to that sport or made it an after thought. Jackson's Trust is exactly what I would call a great sports romance, as a fan of football (but not over zealous) I really liked that this felt real, for some it may be over the top, but I didn't get lost at all. There wasn't any lengthy play by plays, really just the briefest description of the sport in general and of each character's reactions during big sports moments, but for me that just built up the world of the main characters. I hate when a female character is "such a huge fan," but I can't remember a single time in the book when the character actually seemed to have knowledge of the sport itself. Violet Duke does sports romance fans everywhere justice with Jackson's Trust, because it's all you should ever want out of a sports romance and then some.
Main characters Leila and Jackson are sort of like mirror images of one another, with equally private secrets and intense love of football, it was almost too good of a match up to be true. However, their slow development of emotions kept me hanging onto their every move. It was the kind of book where I knew something good would come of all the buildup and I wouldn't ditch being this couples third wheel for anything. The best part, though, was how much real life took place for the characters. I didn't feel like I was living in Jackson and Leila's world, I felt like I was living in the world of high stakes sports broadcasting, typical wealthy family drama, and a romance that defied past precedence. Then the secrets come out and I was still hooked, the secrets were good secrets, I could work with them. Totally loved what it did for them as a couple too. Then the big twist comes and, I'm serious about this, I set my Kindle down like it was on fire, repeated nope and no about 100 times, and walked away at 75%. You could not have paid me to finish Jackson's Trust within the first few hours after I reached 75%. I chose bed over reading, I never choose to go to bed over reading. However, like all readers, I have to know what happens and when I opened back up to that 75% mark to finish Jackson's Trust the next morning I got everything out of it I could have hoped for. Yes, the twist is huge, yes I hated it, but oh the things it did for this story and the characters. This book was a huge success in my opinion, because Violet Duke took a handful of cliches and a subject a lot of authors seem to struggle with and provided this piece of writing that stole all my attention and did it so very well. The writing is superb and it's a complete stand-alone novel, I love that.

I honestly don't think I could love Violet Duke's writing style any more than I do... it's always humorous, yet real, in a way that feels uniquely Violet even when dealing with serious emotions. Her stories always capture my full attention with a fresh, engaging storyline. Her characters are always witty, feisty and lovable with a little sarcasm served up for good measure. In other words real and interesting. People I can see myself having laughs with over lunch. This all goes double for her newest release, JACKSON'S TRUST. Plus I'm a sucker for sports romances and Jackson's Trust is centered around football. Bonus points, for sure!
The heroine, Leila Hart, is an adorable, sassy, independent, savvy, cute-as-hell, intelligent, and tough as nails NFL sideline reporter. She is completely comfortable co-existing in a world that is male dominated and pursuing her dream of being a network sportscaster despite all the male posturing she has to put up with and a lack of support from her family. Jackson Gray is her supervisor at the network and a popular and well-respected sports analyst around the station and with the team players, coaches, and owners. He's also known to have only strictly no strings attached flings with women. He has secrets that complicate his life and he believes prevent him from ever settling down with the life he dreams of with a wife and family of his own, but his chemistry with Leila is off the charts. His developing friendship with Leila brings him closer to her than he's ever allowed himself to get with a woman... I'm not giving up spoilers, I'm just saying this story made me laugh out loud, cry a little, sigh a lot, and shake my head with a smile at the dialogue too many times to count. Fantastic read you don't want to miss!!! 4.5 stars

Jackson's Trust threw me for quite the loop. A rather confusing loop.
I had trouble really following the story. There were moments that were scattered and left me confused. The chemistry between Jackson and Leila was....off? There was nothing that really pulled me in to this H and h.
Also, the story was just too consumed with football talk. I mean, I get it, that was essentially the attraction to each other, but it was overloaded to the point that my head hurt and I ended up skipping anything having to do with football talk.
I had high hopes for this one but it just didn't work out for me (doesn't mean it won't work out for you!!).

I’m just going to keep this review short and sweet. Jackson’s Trust was a quick and easy read for me. The story-line was fresh and intriguing. The characters were a lot of fun and I really enjoyed getting to know more about them. I fell in love with Jackson and Leila instantly. The two of them were such a wonderful match. I loved their connection and how they both loved sports. It was fun watching Jackson try to fight his feelings for Leila and leave his playboy ways behind. Leila was a ton of fun. Not only was she super smart, but she really knew her sports. I felt bad for her that she tried to keep her smarts hidden, but I totally get why she did it. She was afraid that she wouldn’t be taken seriously and when you’re in a mostly man’s job, I totally get it. I loved the easy friendship that Leila developed with Jackson and I honestly couldn’t wait to see them give into what we all know they wanted.

Jackson's Trust was an enjoyable & entertaining read.
I loved watching the relationship between Jackson and Leila develop. They were fun, strong, intelligent, passionate people who find their other half in each other.
I also enjoyed Jackson's friends, they made me laugh and I'm looking forward to reading Bennett's book next in Bennett's Chance.
While I enjoyed most of the book, there were parts I wasn't a fan of and it took some of the enjoyment away. I wasn't a fan of the drama, it was just too much and tbh I don't think the book needed it =/
Overall this was a good read with entertaining characters that will have you turning the pages and leave you full of happy feels.

Violet Duke has been on my watch list for awhile and mostly because of the title of the first book in her Cactus Creek Series, I mean how could my interest not be peaked by the title Love, Chocolate and Beer?? But I just never got around to reading it, the sad reality when one has a never ending and always growing TBR pile, so when I saw that she was starting up a new series I didn’t hesitate to request it, especially since football was going to be involved in some way, and I’m happy I did. While there were a few “Huh?” moments, I found Jackson’s Trust to be a fun, sweet, flirty and sexy read with great characters I want to know more about.
Jackson pretty much owned me as soon as he used ‘asshat’ to describe himself. There were extenuating circumstances as to why he used that term, but that’s when I knew I’d come to adore him. He’s that guy that you want to hate, but can’t because he is that smart, waaaayyy too good looking guy who is just inherently nice. When he does something nice for someone he doesn’t expect anything in return. The one issue/quirk he has is that he doesn’t do relationships. Sex is fine, but nothing further. The reason behind it, when it finally comes out, is a bit over the top but it also makes sense and again it comes back around to the whole ‘wanting to hate him, but can’t’ because he is that good of a guy.
Leila I also liked from the start. She’s smart, savvy and observant. She is the black sheep of her family (and thank God for that) but is happy with that because she is being true to herself. She also understands that while she knows way more about football, the game and everything else surrounding it, she also knows that being a woman wanting to break into sports casting she has to walk a fine line where she doesn’t come off as a ditz, but also not push so hard to convince everyone she is just as knowledgeable as they are, if not more. She doesn’t necessarily like playing the game, but does it and when the time is right shows everyone just what she is made of.
I enjoyed how their relationship evolved. It starts out with them both being physically attracted to each other, but grows as they learn that they speak the language of football (Note: There is a lot of football talk and not just about the game so be prepared). That connection draws them together and respect and admiration grows out of. I loved how they picked up on the little things about each other that not many others would notice and how honest they were about the attraction they felt towards each other and yet knew they couldn’t act upon it and had to set boundaries at least in the beginning. I loved their bantering and how at ease they were with each other. Unfortunately, bumps in the road happened and towards the end of the book I did find myself wanting to shake some sense into both of them, but thankfully things worked out and my frustration with them went away.
Now for the ‘Huh?” issue. I love plot twists, I really do, but the big one that happens in this book (there are a few twists, but this is the big, BIG one) just came out of nowhere for me. There is a small hint that maybe something more is going with this particular situation, but it’s something said in passing and not brought up again. Did it hurt the story? For me, not really because I was already invested in Jackson and Leila as a couple and in them getting their HEA. And the situation does get explained, it’s a bit OTT but still plausible so that in the end it makes sense as to why it happened, but I would have liked more build up to it to make things flow a little better.
Outside of that issue, I found the writing engaging and well paced and I loved the secondary characters. Bennett and Donovan cracked me up at some of the shenanigans they pulled, but also had me wanting to hug them for being such good friends not only to Jackson, but Leila, so I’m really looking forward to their books. And, I’m hoping that Mike gets his own book too because he was really cool.

4 "Never anyone else" Stars
This was my first Violet Duke book and I really enjoyed this one! It was such a fun, quick read.
We have Leila Hart a sassy, sexy little football loving field reporter with some major family drama and a secret identity. Who tries her best to down play her massive and sometimes very confusing football stats knowledge. She wants to be known for her solid work and not as just another bimbo worker her way up the corporate ladder on her back.
Then we have Jackson Gray sports analyst with the same company Leila just started with. Right from the start there is major chemistry between the two. But there are things neither of them are willing to compromise in order to risk just sex and after a pretty intense meeting of the minds they settle on just friends or as Leila puts it:
They fall into this fun friendly relationship with some great banter. But both of them want more from the other and they both see the best in each other.
Finally they decided to take their relationship to the next level but only after a series of dramatic events unfolding and secrets revealed. And man oh man Violet Duke did not disappoint.
But of course it wouldn't be a good book without more drama thrown in the mix. But at this point I was a little confused and still am to a point as to why Leila was all in the mix of it. I think it works, but maybe could've been done a bit differently as to not confuse the readers so much. But maybe not, I just finished it like 20 minutes ago so maybe I need more time to process it all.
Violet Duke does a great job wrapping it all up though. I was at like 93% and there were still way too many unanswered questions. But she did a great job bringing it all together for us. Oh and I simply cannot forget the supporting characters. Jackson's friend were hilarious! I absolute loved them and how they were woven into the story line. And I am guess they will be getting their own books in this new series. Which I can't wait to read.
So overall I can say I really enjoyed it. There is no baby mama drama, jealous ex-bf/gf, drugs, abuse or BDSM. But there is family drama a lot, there are some great supporting characters, oh and there's the whole billionaire falling in love thing too (so there's that). Anyways for me it is worth the day or two it will take you to read it.
4 "Never anyone else" Stars
This was my first Violet Duke book and I really enjoyed this one! It was such a fun, quick read.
We have Leila Hart a sassy, sexy little football loving field reporter with some major family drama and a secret identity. Who tries her best to down play her massive and sometimes very confusing football stats knowledge. She wants to be known for her solid work and not as just another bimbo worker her way up the corporate ladder on her back.
Then we have Jackson Gray sports analyst with the same company Leila just started with. Right from the start there is major chemistry between the two. But there are things neither of them are willing to compromise in order to risk just sex and after a pretty intense meeting of the minds they settle on just friends or as Leila puts it:
"A perfect, and perfectly chaste friends-with-snuggle-benefits relationship." or cuddle buddies for short.
They fall into this fun friendly relationship with some great banter. But both of them want more from the other and they both see the best in each other.
"Because you deserve a great breakfast. You haven't lived until you've tasted my pancak-"
Finally they decided to take their relationship to the next level but only after a series of dramatic events unfolding and secrets revealed. And man oh man Violet Duke did not disappoint.
But of course it wouldn't be a good book without more drama thrown in the mix. But at this point I was a little confused and still am to a point as to why Leila was all in the mix of it. I think it works, but maybe could've been done a bit differently as to not confuse the readers so much. But maybe not, I just finished it like 20 minutes ago so maybe I need more time to process it all.
Violet Duke does a great job wrapping it all up though. I was at like 93% and there were still way too many unanswered questions. But she did a great job bringing it all together for us. Oh and I simply cannot forget the supporting characters. Jackson's friend were hilarious! I absolute loved them and how they were woven into the story line. And I am guess they will be getting their own books in this new series. Which I can't wait to read.
So overall I can say I really enjoyed it. There is no baby mama drama, jealous ex-bf/gf, drugs, abuse or BDSM. But there is family drama a lot, there are some great supporting characters, oh and there's the whole billionaire falling in love thing too (so there's that). Oh. My. Goodness!!!!
The twists, the turns, the anticipation, the drama. This had it ALL! Just when you think, "oh, that's such a good story". BAM, you're completely thrown off your game and are sprinting to the Red Zone just to try to catch up. Yes, I used Football language. Another reason I really liked this. I wouldn't call myself a "Football Analyst" or even a guru, but I know enough about the sport that I wasn't lost (I was actually drawn in more) whenever Football was being discussed. Ok, I'm rambling, let's begin...
Leila Hart is an attraction woman who is a new hire at the Sports Network, covering 3 "local" NFL teams. She's ridiculously smart as well, but for reasons, she chooses to keep not only how smart she is a secret, but the fact that she's a savant about Football. Ok, maybe not a savant, but she's damn smart and uses facts, algorithms and such to help "predict" the outcome. You'll understand that part more when you start reading. Did I mention that she's the daughter of a politician? Yep, secrets.
Jackson Gray is, well, hot. Yeah yeah, he's more than that, but seriously, just the way he speaks is enough to close your eyes and wish you were the one he was talking to. Sorry, I digress. Jackson is the Sports Network's Senior Analyst who Leila has to "shadow" for her probationary period. Not a bad shadow. Dang it, I did it again. Focus!!! Back to Jackson. He's supposed to be "showing" Leila the ropes, but he catches on very quickly that she's no dummy and totally knows more than she lets on. Except that, yes, there are secrets she's keeping, just as he's keeping a few of his own.
The sexual tension between the two is without doubt electric. So much so that it almost ruins Leila's reputation before she even had a chance to create one. Remember those twists and turns I mentioned in the beginning? Don't get too comfortable in this read. Because just when you think it's about to end, boy of boy, are we hit with a stunna! Nope, I'm not gonna even hint as to what it is because there's not just one twist, but MULTIPLE ones. Not so much that you're rolling your eyes, but enough to make your jaw drop a few times.
I absolutely recommend this book and can't wait for this series to continue. Mainly because Jackson's friends are crazy funny and I need me some Bennett and Donovan, stat!

Even though I am a non-lover of football I still find myself reading football romances, but Jackson's Trust by Violet Duke was very different in that both the hero and heroine lived and breathed football but weren't directly involved with it. As a sports network's game analyst and an sidelines reporter they both have a great knowledge of the game but from the moment Jackson Gray sees Leila Hart he knows two things, one he can't get her off his mind and two she knows way more about football than anyone gives her credit for. I loved the flirty and fun side of this story and I also appreciated its complex and dark underbelly, but most of all I loved how two people were willing to give up everything to be together.
Jackson Gray loves his job and finding out the network's new sideline reporter is every bit as good an analyst as he is and while the chemistry between them burns brightly from the start he knows that she deserves better than when he can give. Leila was so feisty and fierce and it was fantastic seeing a tomboy type woman figure out a way to enter into a man's world and make it not because of her "assets" but because of her brain. I enjoyed watching these two become friends, sharing their lives and even their moments of intimacy that didn't involve sex. There was something special about the bond they forged and Jackson proved time and time again he was willing to go the extra mile to help his friends, his co-workers and most of all to help Leila get the career she not only wanted but deserved. I hated that he kept so much about his life from her but also understood his reasoning even when I still think she would have been better off and better prepared knowing.
When their lives are turned upside down I appreciated that neither one of them blamed the other, that they were able to be rational and eventually even talk and work through it, but most of all I loved seeing that neither one was the same without the other which gave me hope. Despite everything there was a love and mutual admiration for one another they simply couldn't turn off.
Sassy and fun with characters that immediately took up residence in my heart, plus some intrigue that packed a punch, Jackson's Trust was easy to love and impossible to put down.

This is the first book in a brand new series by Duke and after reading the blurb I wasn't sure if I would actually like it or not but as it turns out I really enjoyed it. Her writing style was enjoyable as were the characters.
We meet Jackson who is a senior football analyst who falls for the new sideline reporter Leila. Jackson has ever committed to more then just one night stands but with Leila's faith in him that will change.
These two have great attraction toward each other and quickly fall into friends then friends with cuddling but Leila holds out on Jackson until he can believe he is more then just one night. I have to say the way these two understood each other on so many levels was refreshing. They also had each other's backs and wanted to really help the other one. It was like they were a power couple.
I liked the mystery of what secrets these two were holding back from one another and trust me I never guessed what it could've been. It was unique and brought some twist and turns that just made their story more appealing.
Jackson has some interesting and funny friends who I am assuming will end up getting their own books (yay). They are funny and have no boundaries in what they say. I can honestly say I can't wait to see what Duke will put them through when their time comes.
I'm not really a big football fan so when when stats and other things were mentioned I found myself confused and wanting to move on from that to their love story. If you are a football fan then I expect you will understand this and enjoy this more then I did.
With all honesty I wasn't going to read this book but in the end I was so glad I did. Not only does this story have some drama but it has some really big emotional parts that only helps these two characters along the way. I certainly can't wait for the next book in this series!

I love the uniqueness of this story. Tomboy girl who is a jock at heart gets her dream job and immediately meets her new dream man. Heat and the sexual tension was evident throughout this entire book, almost to the point of frustration on the readers end. I kept wondering if they were ever going to get it done. This man has patience!
I did have some issues with the amount of Sport speak in this book. As one who loves football it almost became distracting the fact that Leila would have to prove herself constantly. It was kind of a love-hate situation for me - I love the book, I love the story but I found myself frustrated the amount football stuff that somewhat distracted from the actual story.
I did like the fact that there is a nice twist in the story that is not expected but I did get lost a few times towards the end. Things jumped around and it was somewhat tough to follow and try to discern what was going on. The ending was wrapped up nicely with a happy HEA but I was annoyed with trust issues along the way that made me a bit nuts.
Overall, I enjoyed the story. The author has a beautiful talent for writing an interesting and unique story and I have read many other stories by her prior that I enjoyed. This one just left me a little at loose ends. I wanted more about the relationship and love interest overall.

If you're looking for a sweet sports romance with wit, humor and plenty of heat, then you NEED to run to pick up this book! Jackson's attraction to Leila is instantaneous and all consuming - which is shocking since he's never wanted more with anyone else. He's not even truly sure that he can give her more...his life is complicated.
Leila is full of spitfire, one-liners and intelligence. She's smart as hell and I loved her for it. She makes Jackson work for what he wants, even though he's not quite sure what his end goal is. He just knows that she feels so good in his arms, and that her kisses light him up inside.
Duke is masterful at creating passion with grace and sweetness with humor. This story is full of fantastic characters you actually want to cheer on, root for and hope they score. There's also a TON of dirty talk. While both aren't sure that they can...or should...get involved with the other, they just can't help it. It's like fates colliding and the world halting to make sure that they know that they're supposed to be with the other.
There are no penalties in this sweet love story - Violet throws a glorious pass with Jackson's Trust! 4.5 stars!

4.0 "SUNSHINE and WEATHERMAN" STARS!!!
Yowza! What a fantastic read that got me invested and captivates my heart and mind. It was funny, sweet, sexy, flirty and steamy. I went from laughing, to swooning to making my jaw dropped and then back to swooning again then finally fall in love with them.
So, this book follows the story of Jackson Gray, a senior analyst of DBC Sports Network who looked like any other ridiculously handsome former athlete. But more than that, HE IS DEEP and HE DOESN'T DO RELATIONSHIPS...only SEX..just sex..and occasionally with lunch or dinner but NEVER BREAKFAST.
"He was friendly, yes, but nothing more. Interesting. And it didn’t even look like he was doing it for Leila’s benefit. A flirt savant with parameters. Darn it, why did he have to be so intriguing?"
And then there's Leila Hart, new addition to the team as the sideline reporter who speaks and thinks the same language with Jackson when it comes to football.
"For Jackson, Leila was absolutely his kind of pretty. Country girl cute with carnivorous curves that hinted at her preference of steak over salad. Guileless eyes he’d already seen could turn into a lethal glare when needed. Oh boy, I love this book!!!This is actually my first Violet Duke read, and I tell you she makes a mean book. Right from the start you will be invested because it was written flawlessly. Her writing style is just awesome in a way that will make you more intrigue. The way she conveys the story to the readers is just so great that you could not put it down the moment you stated reading it. I even stayed until the wee hours just to finished it because I don't want to be left hanging. What's more lovable is the chemistry of the leads which is just so strong and just fitted perfectly for this plot. The romance is light and easy but definitely left a mark. The drama is there but not too much to make it boring. Even the secondary characters just blends with them and added more color to the story. Admittedly though, I guess that twist wasn't necessary at all. The story is flawless as it is although it adds another part where you have something to look forward to.
Overall, this book is really great.I had so much fun reading it. I am even looking forward to read Bennet's story and I am so excited to see what Violet Duke is in store for us in her next installment. Bet she'll still nail it that's why I really can't wait to read it.

Leila Hart starts work at DBC Sports News as a sideline reporter for American football (hey, I'm English, we play football). Jackson Gray is DBC Sports News' in-house expert on all things football and the person who will be guiding and supporting Leila for the first few months of her job. Jackson is intrigued by Leila from the moment he lays his eyes on her, especially when he can tell that Leila knows more about football than Lloyd, the network producer who is explaining the basics of football to her very s.l.o.w.l.y. Of course with Jackson's connections and Leila's talent and winning personality she is an immediate hit with everyone. especially the crabby old coaches.
What ensues is a very Lauren Layne-esque novel about two attractive, talented people working in a glamorous profession and I was loving it, the sex factor was a little on the high side (when there is more sneaking into corners and lusting than plot or talking) but I was thinking 'hey, cool new author' great book.
Then Jackson had a secret, one which meant he could never offer a woman more than meaningless sex Although to be honest Leila does too, full disclosure, being English I had no real clue what Leila's secret mean't or why it was so bad.
Then we find that Leila is the wayward daughter of a Utah politician and she broke up with her ex (also a politician) when she found out that he was a serial cheater. That doesn't stop him from trying to get her back (repeatedly) and then stabbing her in the back when she humiliates him in public.
Oh, and then there's Jackson's drama.
Then we get introduced to Jackson's friends and I just felt 'set up for the next books in the series coming up'.
Oh and then Leila has more drama. And then there is dramatic speech-making, generally by Jackson. But Jackson and Leila are just too nice. Jackson is practically a saint!
I was left with the overwhelming feeling that Violet Duke just put too many ideas into one book . Honestly, this could have been a trilogy and it would still have been action-packed. In addition, because there was so much going on she didn't develop some of the characters fully - I couldn't tell any of the friends apart.
And yet, despite all my eye-rolling at the OTT events in the book I kept reading and I am keen to read the next books in the series.
