Dragons of New York #2

Desired by Dragons

Rate this book
Drake and Quill are dragon shifters, the big bad protectors of the shifter world, tasked with missions no one else can handle. Though hot, rich and capable, their partnership is held back by their sometimes clashing personalities. When they save a curvy woman named Tara from drowning, they may have just found the one thing they can agree on. They want her. Forever.

When Tara jumped into icy water to save a drowning child, she was expecting to die. Instead, she wakes up to find that two tall, beautiful men with rare powers want her for their own. Tara's intrigued by the dragons and the off-the-charts sexual chemistry she feels with them, and agrees to spend a week figuring out if she can really belong in their world of magic and adventure.

But the dragons aren't the only ones who want Tara forever, and an obsessed ex from her past may bring the dragons the biggest challenge they've ever faced. Drake and Quill will have to put the past aside and learn to work together if they want to attain their most important goal: protecting their mate.

Warning: Desired by Dragons is a standalone novel with no cliffhangers and two sexy, stubborn dragons who might just light your fire. However, it also contains adult-level sexiness and some intense action scenes and is meant for mature readers only. Enjoy!

I really liked this book. However, it was a little stop and go sometimes. That is very unusual for Bolryder. I wonder if there weren't scenes deleted that would have made the story more smooth. Sometimes I feel like authors cut scenes to make the story shorter, and in the process lose some important transitions.

I started this series with such high hopes... I love reading dragon shifters and love especially when the woman is an independent sassy woman.
Sadly, I felt like I was rereading the first one all over again. The only difference is Quill and Drake acted more immature and even after centuries of being together still couldn't find a common ground. The only upside to this was finally figuring out why the dragon blood is so special and the addition of the wyverns.

I'm pretty sure I'll read the third to the series, only because I hate not finishing a hole box set. But I'm pretty sure I can already predict the story without having to read it.

This was an enjoyable story and I liked Tara, Drake and Quill.

Tara is a woman alone and on the run. Tara lost her mother years ago and during her grief, she made the mistake of getting involved with the wrong man. She attempted to escape him but he chased her, forcing her to live the life of a nomad while running an online business.

Drake and Quill are dragon shifters that live and work together as partners. They spend their days policing the shifter community and handling issues. Drake and Quill have some issues that have been around for a while and it causes them to argue...often.

Tara is stopped by a dam and thinking that she needs to get on the road again when she hears a commotion. She checks it out and sees that a young boy fell into the water and was getting sucked away. No one else was helping so Tara jumped in to save the boy. She succeeds but then is pulled in by the current and figures she's dead for sure.

When Tara wakes up, she's surprised to find herself in a nice loft with two strange men. They freak her out at first, especially when they start throwing around words like "dragons" and "mate". Drake and Quill manage to convince her that they are dragons and they do want her to stay and give things between the three of them a chance. Things go well but some of the issues between Quill and Drake cause problems and this leads to an unfortunate encounter with Sterling and Gentry, who are the leaders of the dragons in New York (who are supposed to be the heroes in book #3). While they showed up for a good reason but their actions did not endear them to me and I was left with very mixed feelings about them. Thankfully, Drake, Quill and Tara are able to figure things out between the three of them and (after getting through a dangerous encounter) end the story starting a HEA together.

This was an enjoyable story. I liked Tara as a heroine and thought she did well as a balance for Quill and Drake. I liked both Quill and Drake but their issues did cause annoyance. I'm glad that Tara was able to get them to talk through things and figure out their partnership. Overall, this was a pretty good story and I'm moving on to book #3 (I just hope I like Sterling and Gentry better in their own story...). :)

Great dragon adventure/romance !! Quill, Blue healing dragon, and Drake, a warrior dragon, find their mate, Tara ! She's a feisty gal and is reluctant, but willing to check out their world. She's taken from their home before they mate her, and everyone seems to want her. Quill and Drake rescue her, and then her evil ex shows up later and captures her, too. With a daring rescue where Drake is poisoned, Quill heals him, and then Tara gets her very own "dragon power". Deep characters, an interesting tale, and hot sex make this story worthwhile. Highly recommended. ENJOY !!!

Not for me. I found the two male characters to be a chore. They acted more like children than adults. The only thing that was missing was a serious mom like scolding and some actual temper tantrums. Quill was a sissy, who acted like a brat. Drake acted like your over testosterone filled jock boy. He needs no one, and is too tough to let anyone in. Wahhhhh-waaaaah-waaaaah.

Tara should have smacked them around and told them to grow a set.

I will not be continuing the series, as the next two guys seemed like lost causes just as much and these ones. No thanks.

Hmmm...not a bad story but it did feel very similar to Double Dragons The men were very much alike. One gruff and one affable with a sassy heroine who was inexperienced but intrigued by a triad relationship. I liked the addition of the Wyvern so that kicked the story up a notch. I'm not sure I'll be reading Sterling and Gentry's story -- the men seem very similar to the sets in the first two books.

In a world where so many people struggle to do the right thing, your courage can distinguish you. You may even have the same courage as a dragon. You may be dragon-hearted.

THE BLURB

Tara’s life exists on the move; it’s not safe for her to stay in one place to long as her ex-boyfriend is hunting her. She’s exhausted, but determined. It’s during one of her rare stop breaks that she sees a child in danger of drowning. Realising she’s the only one willing to act, she rushes forward into dangerous currents.

Quill and Drake have problems. They’ve never really gotten along well. Quill is often running away to try and heal others with his dragon powers. Drake is going crazy trying to protect his partner, who keeps disappearing. They can’t agree on anything, until they come across a drowning woman.

They may have just found the one thing they can agree on. They want her. Forever.

TONE OF THE BOOK

Desired by Dragons is written to be a light hearted adventure. The plot doesn’t focus on negative or stressful topics, and often humour is injected in such scenes to lighten them.

SENSITIVE TOPICS

Desired by Dragons is a novella aimed at mature readers.

There are plenty of sex scenes, with a particular focus on threesomes between two males and one female. Reverse harem style.

There is also some violence and mild-kidnapping.

Desired by Dragons is also a big-beautiful woman novel.

SERIES SYNOPSIS

Desired by Dragons is the second novella in the Dragons of New York Series. You can get each novella individually, or the first three novellas in a larger box set. The first novella is Double Dragons.

At 123 pages long, the story is much shorter than an average romance novel (at 300 pages long). Sadly its a book that would have greatly benefited with a longer story line and some character development.

Each book in the series focuses on a different couple, with a happily ever after.

REVIEW

When I reviewed the first book of the series, Double Dragons (read our review), I had a problem with how the heroine acted. She had been horny to the point of ridiculous and unbelievable behaviour. Thankfully Terry Bolryder has improved upon character behaviour in this novel. The heroine, after being kidnapped by the heroes, is suspicious and reluctant to trust them. Finally a dash of realistic behaviour!

I do wish that Terry Bolryder would use descriptions other than “so hot”. Whilst it certainly works in some scenes, it’s used so receptively that it effects the quality of writing. Overall her writing focuses less on realistic or interesting plot lines and more on erotica scenes.

One aspect of the novel that really grated on me was the message that finding your “other half” (or in this case your other third) will solve all your life problems. There is an implication that the characters had to learn to communicate better, but in the end the moral of the novel was that someone else would come along and help you to solve your problems.

FINAL WORD

Desired by Dragons is certainly better than the previous novel in the series, but still not great. Thankfully its a very short read, so great if you want a quick novel to pass the time.

RECOMMENDED BOOKS AND AUTHORS

Terry Bolryder has written another series about werewolves. The first novel in the series Alpha Contender (read our review) is a reverse harem set up where several alpha males come together to compete for the affections of one female.

If you like dragons, consider The Dragon Demigods series by Charlene Hartnady. The first novel in the series is Lord of Fire (read our review).

A multi-author series known as Venys Needs Men has a number of great books in it. Authors to contribute to the series are Naomi Lucas, Tiffany Roberts, and Poppy Rhys. You can see all the books contributed on the series Goodreads page.

Ruby Dixon has also written the Fireblood Dragons series. A fun adventure set in a post apocalyptic world that’s been taken over by mad dragons. Only when the dragons meet their soul mates, a human woman, that their madness clears. The first book in this series is Fire In His Blood.

Finally don’t forget the famous Dragons of Preor series by Celia Kyle. It’s about dragon-aliens occupying Earth whilst looking for their fated mates. The first book in the series is Jarek (read our review).

I read this book as part of a box set.

Drake and Quill are the red and blue dragons, respectively. Drake is the strongest of the colored dragons and Quill has the power to heal almost anything.

Tara is on the run from an abusive man, but that doesn't stop her from jumping into a river to save a boy from being drowned or swept under a dam. With her strength gone after handing off the child, she knows she is a goner, but at least the little boy is ok. Drake and Quill show up just in time for Drake to snatch her from the dam's clutches, but she is not breathing and they must get her somewhere so Quill can try to heal her.

Tara awakes to find herself in a beautiful apartment with two gorgeous hunks of man. When they explain to her that they think she may be a dragon-heart and they want to find out if she could be their mate, she freaks. Eventually, they convince her to stay for a week and see if she thinks they all might be compatible enough to become mates. Tired of running and hiding from her ex, she agrees.

What will happen when Tara's stalker joins up with a bunch of shifters and they all come after her? Will her two dragons be able to save her even though their mating process was not complete?

OK.

Desired by the Dragon

Tara see a boy in the water and without thinking of her own safety jumps in the water. She saves the boy but is then swept away Quill was going to jump in and save her but Drake turns up and jumps in instead. They realise the only way to save her is if they take her home. Once there they ask for a week of her time to see if she is a Dragon heart and see if they are good together.
Then they are told to keep watch on Tara as her ex is after her. They start to mate but Drake andTara mix blood but before they can finish Tara is taken. I’m not going to spoil it only to say it is a must read if you like romance and Dragons

Destined Dragons

I have read all three of these short stories about dragon shifters. I have reviewed them together as i downloaded as a box-set.

On the whole i liked these stories. Very predictable but were enjoyable short stories with an interesting and different slant on dragon shifter powers.

If you have a few hours to sit, relax and read three easy short stories, these are perfect.

This particular pair of dragons were kind of interesting. The finding of the potential mate was rather expected though in this case also a bit harrowing. But, the dragons themselves, there were some definite doubts that things would work out here. They fought more like siblings rather than business type partners - with a little extra. Added some nice twists. Still a nice bedtime story.

Like the Series

I like all of Terry Bolryder's shifter series. I especially appreciate that the heroine's of the Dragons of New York series are women of color (which is rare). Cute story. Curvy women, hunky hero's, quick fun read.

Good short read

Editor needed. Back story a little lacking. Could use more character development. But, if you like Dragons... I hope this author keeps at it - maybe a full novel?

the dragons are so different

And how they find their mates unique. No cookie cutter shifter romance here. I like the way the next pairs’ are Introduced but it doesn’t feel clunky.
