They say flames burn brightest in the darkness, and these are dark times for Izril. Perhaps, for the world.
The Assassin's Guild and Circle of Thorns loom large over the continent as Lord Tyrion Veltras sends for aid, but there are only a few people who move when a miracle is needed. Adventurers like Saliss of Lights, the Lady of Fire, Maviola El at the end of her life, and Ryoka Griffin are all racing against the clock and great odds.
However, it is not always so dark. Familiar green faces pop up and an [Innkeeper] is never without her allies. Memory's Flame is a burning spectacle of miracles and great and terrible deeds, and always—flames.
Saying I enjoyed this book is putting it lightly. From the start, the book had me immersed in the world and story. The twists that always come with these books made me hate looking at the page count and seeing it tick by to the end of the book.
Each chapter left me with more questions that made me want to grab pirateaba by the ankles and shake them till the whole world they have inside their head comes out.
I already plan on listening to all the books again, just to try gleam answers before I begin writing on the walls.
(Caitlin’s note: I have listened up to book four, but my brother is a mega fan and jumped on the chance to listen and review the audiobook arc)
I've been crying more during the reading of this book than any of the others. Indeed, I've lost sleep. I've been pacing. I've been feeling the full gamut of emotions and some much, much more than others for a much longer time that any book has any right to invoke in me. And I love books.
This is a brilliant book. The whole series is one absolutely batshit insane brilliant story.
And it has killed me.
Just in this one alone, I never would have guessed that I'd see Saliss of Lights be anything more than a sometimes nuts battle alchemist or a shameless nudist. At the beginning of this book, I never would have guessed I'd see Saliss's whole tale and cry so damn much, especially when we got to the Lady of Flame and Ryoka's massive arc... and everything around that being too brilliant for words. I laughed and I cried and I laughed some more and it tore me to shreds at certain points and then healed me and then tore me to shreds again.
And yet, if that was it, it would have been enough. Enough to cement this mini-arc and the whole long tale as one of the very best, most satisfying tales ever. And this is coming from someone who has read a LOT.
But then... something else happened. And I don't think I'm going to get over this for a while.
Even as I'm strung along and given something truly wonderful and wild and epic to give me that one little fire of hope, I'm still in.... grief.
This is a grief that is just as real as anything. And I'm raging. In denial. Not even close to acceptance. And not even numbness can save me. Not with this author.
This is not hyperbole. This is not a simple overstatement of facts. This author is... should I say it?
Evil.
Or pure good.
But either way, it, and the stitch witch, has sunk its threads into my soul. And it is making me pay all the prices.
Recommended? Oh, you have no idea. It may be a long tale, but life is long, too. And just as painful.
Book 20 marks the end of Volume 7, and with it, several narrative threads that were spun up during its course. Of these, I highlight three: To me, this choice went beyond what I want the story to be, delving right into the too fanciful. I will, of course, continue to read it, as it is my favorite story in the world. Yet I hope this takes the backseat to what I feel is the true story being told.
This book has the absolute highest of highs and lowest of lows of the entire series so far.
That being said, this installment truly broke me. I thought book #9 Tears of Liscor was heartbreaking, but this one ripped my heart out and placed it straight into a meat grinder. I'm sat here processing such a large spectrum of emotions that no book has ever put me through.
TWI has truly cemented itself as my favorite story of all time. This book marks the end of Volume 7, which is only ~42% of the current length of the story.
On to Volume 8, to hopefully find some solace for the end of Volume 7.
This is the best one in the series so far and I never thought I’d say that. Usually these books are pretty slow but this one was the opposite, it was SO action packed. Erin was in top form, helping making new friends, and even makes ya shed a few tears! I am very much looking forward to the next one. So many unanswered questions!
I have read the entire series on the web serial, so just rating each book as they come up. They are all fantastic. Pirate has an incredible talent and the way the stories tie in together and evolve is almost magical.
