Game of Lies by Spencer Guerrero

This one had me questioning who was lying, who was telling the truth, and how much I could trust anything I was being told.

Waking up knowing someone is lying to you but not being able to remember why is already terrifying. Then add in being told you killed someone, that you can never go back to your old life, and that your only option is to trust the person you already know isn't telling you everything... yeah, no pressure there at all.

I really liked the premise of this one and how the truth starts coming together as the memories return. There were definitely moments where I thought I knew what was happening, and then something would have me questioning it all over again.

The pacing itself wasn't slow—in fact, at times it almost felt a little too fast. There were parts that felt rushed or slightly scattered, where I would've liked things to come together a little more smoothly. That's really what kept this at four stars for me.

But the mystery of what actually happened kept me reading because I needed those answers. Who do you believe when you can't even trust your own memory?

Secrets, missing memories, manipulation, lies on top of lies... definitely a solid psychological thriller.

Game of Lies had me questioning everything from the very beginning. Guerrero knows exactly how to pull readers into a story, and once the mystery surrounding Alma began to unfold, I found myself needing to know what was really going on.

Alma wakes up with missing pieces of her past and no clear understanding of what happened to her. As fragments of memories begin surfacing through vivid flashbacks, she’s left trying to separate reality from deception. Then there’s Colt, who insists he rescued her and is determined to keep her safe. He also claims to be telling her the truth about everything that happened—but can she really believe him?

The problem is that Alma knows Colt is capable of lying, and he seems far too convincing when he does it. Yet the memories returning to her appear to support his version of events, leaving her caught between what she remembers, what she’s being told, and what she should actually believe.

With plenty of twists, secrets, and uncertainty, Game of Lies kept me guessing about who Alma could trust and what truths were still being hidden from her. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I found myself questioning everything all over again. Another gripping read from Guerrero that definitely kept me turning the pages!

Game of Lies by Spencer Guerrero was VERY good!

This is one of those books that keeps you questioning everything and everyone. Just when I thought I had figured out who the real bad guy was, something would happen that made me question it all over again. Who is telling the truth? Who is lying? Who is actually good? And who can you trust?

Even toward the end, I was still second-guessing my theories, which is exactly what I want from a psychological thriller. I love a book that doesn’t make the answers obvious and keeps you trying to put the pieces together right along with the characters.

Fast-paced, twisty, and full of uncertainty, Game of Lies kept me guessing right up to the end. If you enjoy thrillers where you never quite know who to believe, this one is definitely worth picking up!

Thank you to the author/publisher for the opportunity to read an advance copy.

Master Class in Gaslighting

Game of Lies by Spencer Gurrero is his latest release, and I devoured it in just two days.

The story follows Allma, who wakes up in a beach house with no memory of who she is. Her rescuer, Colt, tells her he saved her life, but can she really trust him?

As her memory slowly returns, she starts questioning everyone around her, and the story becomes a masterclass in gaslighting between its characters. Who's the most unhinged? Who's actually telling the truth? You won't know until the very end.

Gurrero's writing pulled me straight into his world of chaotic plots and unpredictable characters, exactly the kind of book that snaps me out of a reading slump.

If you love easy-to-read thrillers that keep you guessing at every turn, this one's for you. Highly recommend!

Game of Lies is a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end! Guerrero has a habit of hooking his readers on the first page and not letting go until the last page! He never disappoints!

Alma has had a difficult time and can’t remember what happened. She has flashbacks as bits of her memory return. In the meantime, Colt is attempting to convince her that he saved her, will protect her at all costs, and is sharing the truth of the recent events with her. Alma isn’t sure. She knows his lies slip easily off his tongue, but her memories seem to align with what Colt says, leaving her unsure of whether or not she can or should trust him.

This is another blockbuster from Guerrero that will keep you captivated and wanting more and will not disappoint! I appreciate being part of the ARC team and offer my honest review.

I was fortunate to have an opportunity to read the Beta version of the book. The MFC drove me crazy but not necessarily in a way that made me not want to read the book, but more I wanted to jump in the book and shake her back into reality. Although I knew immediately who was the killer, I didn’t know why, how or the details. I always enjoy Spencer’s books, they are great quick reads, always with some twists and turns.

I was second guessing myself from the moment I started this book to the moment I finished it. And even after I finished it, I still sat there as my brain tried to process what I had just read and even then I couldn’t process it 😂 needless to say, if you want a book that keeps you on edge, keeps you guessing and keeps your mind reeling about what’s happening or what’s going to happen… you need to read this one

Want a quick read that will keep you guessing but maybe make you want to slightly slap some sense into the FMC? Then this is the book for you! Game of Lies delivers what the title promises, a game of many lies, can’t trust anyone! 4 stars because I wish it would have dived into a little more character development and it felt a little rushed at times but overall it was a good thriller. I always enjoy Spencer Guerrero’s books. Every time I’m in a reading slump, his books pull me out.

Games of Lies by Spencer Guerrero - Author
This is another wonderful story by Spencer with so many webs of lies that Spiderman would be amazed. 😂 It's dark and twisted with a great amount of deceit, but on whose part!!! Alma has lost her memory, so Colt has taken her under his wing, but is he telling her truths or lies? I can't even say more than this because my mouth is still hanging open from the ending. 😲 Like what just happened?! Omg it's a must read. 5 stars

Twisted story from page one. The psychological tension with this main character Alma and her “hero” Colt remained constant throughout keeping my eyes wide open until the last scene. Then the author left me with a “wtf” silent scream and blank staring at my ceiling.
L🩷VE books that have that effect on me.

Will the real liar please stand up. What a twisted tale of lies and deceit. What exactly happened to so many people. Are they really dead or just a figment of a woman suffering from a severe head injury. Follow Alma's search for the truth while being told so many different versions of what happened to her husband and two of her friends.

Great attention to the small details!

This was really good! I started off as a beta reader, but didn’t get it read in time to submit my review. I went ahead & finished it anyways & I’m glad I did! The book kept me guessing & when I thought I hadn’t figured out, I started doubting myself. And man…the gaslighting is spot on(speaking from personal experience) great job with that Spencer!

I truly loved this book! I love a book that hooks me on the 1st page. I also really loved how it had the f word bleeped out in it! I also only recall it one time also! Thank you Spencer for that!
I loved the characters development and how it switched back and forth between present and past. The way it was done kept propelling the story forward and making me think I had it figured out.
I promise you won't be disappointed in this book!
