Before they were Serving Trouble, they were Running Wild

She’s always been off limits…

He’s always been a challenge…

When it comes to her less-than-stellar reputation, Josie Fairmore is ready and willing to cross over into nothing-left-to-lose territory, if it leads to an all-night ride with the man of her X-rated dreams. With her big brother leaving in the morning to “Be All He Can Be” in the Army, Dominic will never find out about her fling with his best friend Noah.

But one wild ride together doesn’t change the fact that Noah’s leaving in the morning—and he’s taking Josie’s heart with him.

4 - One more night... Stars!

Running Wild is a quick and sexy introduction to Sara Jane Stone’s new Second Shot series, in which we are introduced to the characters that will feature in the first full length novel Serving Trouble, which is due for release in early March 2016.

This novella is currently free on Amazon/B&N, and I recommend you snap it up while it is –

Amazon US - http://www.amazon.com/Running-Wild-Se...
Amazon UK - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Running-Wild-...
B&N - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/runni...

We go back to June 2012, and a pivotal time in Noah Tager and Josie Fairmore’s lives. One is leaving Forever, Oregon for the Marines, the other for college, one is the towns hero, one the towns party-girl, but both are unreservedly attracted to each other…

"I want you… I have for a while. I’ve respected your brother, steering clear, but I want to spend the last few hours before I go with you."

Big brothers best friend is a trope that never gets tired, and although this is a very quick read, Sara Jane has given the reader enough background to understand that when this couple reconnect, post Marines and College in Serving Trouble a lot of water will have passed under the bridge for them both. The problem is, that at the end of this novella they are standing on opposite sides of the bridge.

"That’s going to leave a scar."

I love Sara Jane's writing and characterizations, her Independence Falls Series was one of my favorite reads of 2015, and I cannot wait to see who we meet and what story-lines we are given the pleasure of reading, as the Second Shot series develops.

When I started Running Wild I was under the assumption that it was a prequel novella to the series where the characters from the series are introduced but the main characters get their HEA... So to say that I'm disappointed with how things ended is an understatement. Don't get me wrong, this was a cute novella but if I had known that it was going to end the way it did I probably wouldn't have read it or would have at least waited until the next book came out.

Anyway, Running Wild is about wild child, Josie, and her big brother's BFF, Noah. Noah is the town's hero who's enlisted in the Marines and wants to spend his last night with Josie, the girl he's always had feelings for but was totally off limits.

Josie, being the wild child, always figured good boy Noah wouldn't want her so, of course, she's shocked when he starts acting on his feelings on his last night in town. Unfortunately, their time together ends abruptly when her brother comes looking for Noah and poor Josie is left with a broken heart when Noah just up and walks away.

After reading the snippet for Serving Trouble, the next book in this series, I'm interested to see what's going to happen between these two and hopefully, in the end, they'll get their much deserved HEA.

Running Wild was a fun, sexy read that sets up the romance in Serving Trouble.

Noah Tager has always fantasized about Josie Fairmore but as she's his best friend's little sister, she's always been off limits. But now that he's leaving for the Marines, this is his last chance to have one night with the one woman he's always wanted. Josie has always viewed Noah as the perfect guy and with nothing to lose, she's determined to have her chance with him.

Plot wise there isn't a lot to this novella as it is primarily about Noah and Josie's one night. When the story starts, we do get a little bit of set up that shows what Noah and Josie's relationship is like. Noah doesn't see Josie as the screw up everyone else does and Josie views Noah as the perfect hero. The chemistry between these two is fantastic and the scene where Noah teaches Josie how to ride a mechanical bull was very hot. The one sex scene between them is steamy and overall very well done. I will say I didn't love how the story ended though as I feel Noah could have handled the situation better than he did. But I'm very interested to see what the pair's relationship is like in the first full-length book, Serving Trouble.

Overall this was a fun read and I'd recommend it if you're looking for a quick, steamy read. I will definitely be picking up Serving Trouble soon.

SPOILER SPOILER

One more night. Don't waste it

I saw a post at one of the blog tours for Serving Trouble and a link to this FREE prequel novella, and I immediately clicked "Buy" at Amazon without even looking at the blurb. Well, apparently this prequel was really, a PREQUEL. For the hero and heroine in Serving Trouble. Apparently the blurb for Serving Trouble said "The man who rocked her world one wild night and then walked right out of it" --- and this short prequel was that ONE NIGHT.

Meaning that it really didn't have enough depth, except for the fact that Noah desired his best friend's younger sister, Josie. They had one night but then he had to leave for Marine basic training. And it ended that way. Which meant that I have to read the full-length novel to find out about their HEA...

Will I? We'll see. The answer now is maybe.

Running Wild does exactly what it's supposed to do--it hooks you and draws you in so that by the time you're done, you really want to find out what happens next. It's hot and sexy, and it reels you in so easily and then leaves you wanting more...which for me meant immediately picking up the first full book of the series, Serving Trouble, right after finishing Running Wild.

This is a well written story with a bit of angst and the specter of young love, and though as a novella it is short the main characters are still developed and likable.

4 stars for Running Wild, and I can't wait to dive in to this series! Recommended for new adult romance fans 18+ for adult language and sexual content.

Running Wild is a great opening novella to Sara Jane Stone's Second Shot series and introduces us to the characters who will feature.

description

Josie and Noah's story has only just begun and I can't wait to see how things move on for them a few years down the line in Serving Trouble. Not that I want to wish time away, but roll on March.

Noah Tager prides himself in being a good guy, but there is a little part of him that wants to get a taste of being bad just once in his life. He has been attracted to his best friends little sister Josie for some time now, and knows that she is off limits, but there is something about her that has this good guy wanting to test the limits. On his last night in town he decides to make his move, and steal a kiss or two from dark haired beauty, full well knowing one taste of her lips may never be enough...

Josie Fairmore's reputation precedes her, she is well known for her wild ways, and she is tired of always getting a bad wrap. She is ready to flee small town living in Forever and have a chance at a fresh new start, somewhere where she isn't the talk of the town. But before she leaves, she would love nothing more than to spend one night with her brothers best friend Noah, which will probably never happen since she is quite certain he isn't interested... or is he?

The short, but oh so sexy read, is an exceptional prelude to Ms. Stone's new Second Shot series, and a good primer for Josie and Noah's story. I cannot wait to read the follow up novel and see what Ms. Stone has in store for these two well crafted characters!! Highly recommend this sexy and sweet little story... it'll leave you with a smile... and the insatiable urge for more!!

I want to remind everyone who reads Running Wild that this is a novella and the prequel to Serving Trouble. This is a very short and quick read that sets up Serving Trouble, which I have yet to read but will be soon, and I can’t wait. The way the author leaves this one off you just know that the shit will be flying in the next book. There is nothing more upsetting than hurting someone you love even if you think it is for what is best and that is what happens in Running Wild. I don’t want to give any details away because I basically could sum the entire novella up if I do but I am urging you all to read this one. I really enjoyed it and I liked how it is setting up for a full length novel so we have more of the history going in.

This was a cute little introduction to the series! I could instantly feel the chemistry between the two main characters, and I immediately wanted to read more and find out what happened to each of them after they went their separate ways. There was a rather lengthy preview of the next book in the series as well. It does appear that the author's other series is loosely tied to this one, which I have not read yet, though I do own some of them. It gives me incentive to go read it!

What would you do if you were in love with your brothers best friend? On top of that they are both leaving for the military ... Josi and Noah only had one night to decide what was next ... Quick read but good

This is the prequel to the Second Shot series by Sara Jane Stone. Noah Tager and Josephine Fairmore spend one romantic night together before Noah heads for the Marines and Josephine goes off to college. Noah has always been attracted to his best friend Dominic's little sister Josephine. The story continues between Josie and Noah in the second book in the Second Shot series Serving Trouble. I really enjoyed this wonderful short-story western romance novella.

I know this is a introduction to this series, but I feel like I needed more to give it a proper rating. I liked it and will eventually get to the rest of the series, but I felt like I couldn't give it 4 or 5 stars as it ended within 30 minutes.

Note: This ARC was provided by Avon Impulse in exchange of an honest review.

This book did exactly what a prequel novella is supposed to. It gave us a story--albeit an unfinished one because it's clear that Noah and Josie have a heck of a lot more story to tell--and it made us curious about the characters that we can expect to headline their respective books throughout the series. It whets our appetite for Noah and Josie and the continuation of their story in the now with Serving Trouble, which will be out on March 8th, and we get a sneak peek at said novel and what a peek it was, leaving me wondering what happened while these two were apart, specifically, what Noah bore witness to while serving and what caused Josie to be in the state she was in when she returned.

Based on this prequel novella alone, my expectations for the rest of the Second Shot series are already high. Sara Jane Stone's writing is, I feel, even better than what I've seen in another series of hers that I've read. She's given us two main characters who we want to get to know even more because there's already a bit of an investment that's been placed on them, leaving us to hope that the outcome of their love story will be worthwhile. I'm quite excited to begin reading the advanced reading copy of Serving Trouble, which I just received approval to read and review through Edelweiss earlier today. Running Wild is available for free on e-retailers and I recommend you check it out. Five stars. ♥

"You're determined to be the hero, aren't you?"
"When it comes to your safety? Yeah, I'll play the part. You name the day, the time, the place-I'll be there to help you."

This was a perfect set up for this series!!!

Noah and Josie's story is just getting started and I can't wait to read more!

Josie has always been off limits to Noah because she's his best friend's little sister. But what he doesn't know is that she has pined for him just as bad.

He was leaving for the military soon, so he was determined to show her what she meant to him...even if he knew it would break her heart.

"One more night. You have one more chance before everything changes."

In the short amount of pages this novella was, you already have a connection to these characters. You want them to be able to make it as a couple-To not be apart.

I will say...I never thought a mechanical bull could be sooooooo hot! Trust me!! Noah takes Josie for one good ride. *hint hint wink wink*

"He wanted to be the one who made sure no one ever hurt her again. Her hero. Not the man who broke her heart. But playing the hero had slipped out is reach this time, beyond his control."

I can not wait to continue their story!!! I have to-need to-know what happens to Noah and Josie next!!!

Like I said, great start to this series!!

"I'm strong enough to put it behind me. Bury the pain and move forward. I've done it before and I'll do it again. But that wouldn't erase the scar."

Running Wild is the intro to Sara Jane Stone's new Second Shot series! I have loved her other series and this new one doesn't disappoint!

Josie is the freewheeling daughter of the local sheriff and continually pushes the envelope. Known for her wild ways, she plans on leaving town for the big city and a fresh start. Noah, her brother's best friend, prides himself on being the good guy. But for some time, he's noticed Josie, and doesn't want to be nice. In fact, she stars in every one of his oh so naughty fantasies! She's supposed to be off limits, though, so he has been keeping his distance. When Noah is leaving for the military in the morning, Josie decides she must tell him her feelings. At the going away party, a situation occurs and she knows now is the time. Can Noah resist Josie's advances knowing one touch will never be enough??

Running Wild should be read before continuing the series with Serving Trouble. I highly recommend it and am excited to get my hands on the continuation of Josie and Noah's story!

This is a short introduction to the world of Forever, Oregon, and the prequel to Noah and Josie's story. This sets the scene for their story in the first of the series, Serving Trouble.

Noah has been attracted to Josie, his best friend, Dominic's sister forever. Josie has been attracted to Noah too, but the attraction has never been acted upon because, you don't mess with your best friend's little sister.

I liked Noah. He's kind, honorable and hell bent on doing the right thing. He's also incredibly responsible for his age. What he does for his grandmother and how he does his best to take care of the family is very laudable.

As for Josie, she's smart as a whip and undeserving of the wild child label. She's very clearly misunderstood, though fortunately for her, Noah understands her well enough. She has plans to leave Forever and her reputation behind, and never return.

Both Noah and Josie have plans for the future which take them away from each other. Still, just before Noah leaves the next morning to boot camp and the Marines, and Josie leaves for college, they have one short night together.

If you want to find out more about Noah and Josie after this short prequel, read Serving Trouble to see them find their happy ending.

4.5 / 5 stars

I love books that prelude a series -- just like I love prequels to stories, such as what Sweet Girl is for Garrison's Creed. While I was well aware this was a novella, I wasn't quite prepared for the face that it is indeed the prelude for a much larger picture -- Serving Trouble, which will pick up five years after the end of this one.
He had banished the words "Dominic's sister is freaking hot" from his vocabulary not long after Josie started high school...

Noah has wanted Josie for a long time -- but Josie's wanted him just as long. With Dominic out of the picture, it's the perfect time to try something... right? One night between the town's hero and the town's wild child... One night that can only be one night...

And a single person that links them both, that has them still questioning what they do at every turn.

This was a cute introduction to not only the series, but to this couple. I can't wait to see them again when they've both grown up a little -- I'm curious to see how Noah returns, to be honest, and to see how their chemistry will have grown.

Noah Tager was Forever, Oregon's "golden boy" always plays by the rules, except for his fantasies about his best friends little sister Josie Fairmore, he wishes he could make those fantasies come true. Josie Fairmore is Forever, Oregon's "bad girl" who has loved her big brothers best friend for years. The night before Noah & Josie's brother Dominic leave for basic training, a few of their friends gather for a bonfire & party for one last hurrah before they ship out. Noah has plans for Josie, he has one more night to make his fantasies come true, but will Josie oblige.

If you need me, I'll find a way to help. It doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing. You're like family to me Josie. And I'm always here for you."

This may have been a short novella to introduce Noah & Jose, wow what a way to start a series! Makes you want to get Serving Trouble to see what happens with Josie & Noah!! I am sure going to find out! This was the first book I have read by Sara Jane Stone & it sure will not be my last, Sara Jane has gained a new fan!

This FREE (that's right, friends, FREE) novella did exactly what it was intended to do. It has made me hungry for MORE!!! Running Wild sets up Serving Trouble, the first book in the new Second Shot Series by Sara Jane Stone.

Noah is the town hero who enlists in the Marines to help his father and Grandmother. Josie is struggling with a tarnished reputation that may or may not be deserved. She's also the little sister of Noah's best friend. Josie and Noah beyond attracted to one another and so off-limits to each other.

The last night before Noah leaves for the Marines brings them together for a wild ride. And it really is a scene that shouldn't be missed! Things happen, words are said and this is one of the best set-ups for a new series that I can imagine. The March 8 release of Serving Trouble has been added to the Upcoming Releases page and I'll be anxiously waiting for the day! One-click this today so that you'll be ready and waiting too!

This novella received a 4 rating on BFF Book Blog. An advance copy was received in exchange for an honest review. BFF Book Blog also uses a set of icon ratings. Running Wild received additional ratings for: angst, steamy and butterflies.

I've been a fan of Sara Jane's books since my first read of hers. She has a way with the underdog, the hurting, and those who want to take away the hurt. Good women. Good men. Strong characters and lots of steam. The introduction novella to her new series follows suit.
Josie has always been considered the wild child. The sheriff’s daughter and independent. Noah is her brother's best friend. He's been fighting his changing feelings for the gorgeous woman child who is going away to college. He's going away too. He's joining the Marines with her brother. Now is hardly the time to give into their feelings. But when the chemistry is right timing has little to do with actions.
Can they resist? Will either come back to their home town? And how would their families deal? We are left with questions and anxiously awaiting the series that will answer them and hopefully fill in with some of the other hot people we met.
This it a great short read. I was provided an ARC for an honest review.

Sara Jane Stone has given me an intro to her new series (Second Shot) with a 4star bang. I found this novella to be a great segway into the new series and a greet glimpse in to the past of the two main characters for the first book of the series. We see clearly the struggles the two of them have gone through to reach the point they are at when they parted ways. One the sister of his best friend. The other the best friend of her brother. How do this work? Yes, take that leap and see what is causing the stir around town Forever, OR.

Noah Tager has loved her for a while. Ever since the day he seen she was more than a little girl. She has become more than he could every hope to have. Or every dream to hold, but one thing is for certain no matter what happens that last night in town. He will not change the course of his life. Not even for the girl he has wanted. He has learned early in life that duty and responsibility is not to be taken lightly.
