This box set includes the first three novels in the series that readers are calling, "highly addictive."
MEET KATE REID
A life built on lies. That's what Kate has come to discover and so her desperate search for the truth begins and it will change her forever.
ALL THE SHINY THINGS (book 1) A past revealed. A vengeance unleashed. Compelled to delve into a past no one wants to relive, Kate turns to Detective Marshall Avery. He is the only one who can give her the resources she needs. But the price Kate must pay for answers might just be too great. When her desire for vengeance grows, will Detective Avery be able to prevent her from going too far?
LAW OF FIVE (Book 2) Through chaos, a calm must emerge. The media's continued interest in her case last year has made Kate's life difficult as she attempts to begin again in the wake of tragedy. When she is pulled into a new investigation, Kate realizes just how much that attention has harmed her. This time, a killer dubbed "The Highway Hunter" works his way toward the doorstep of the SDPD and Agent Nick Scarborough is once again called upon to aid in the investigation. As the case evolves, Kate learns that there could be more than one killer. Four lives have already been taken, who will be number five?
GONE UNNOTICED (Book 3) What doesn't kill us... A new case involving the disappearance of migrant women fuels Kate's renewed trajectory as she is reminded their desire to start a new life is similar to her own. The pain and sorrow Kate believed was behind her begins to resurface as the case unfolds and the losses catch up with her. But when her training suffers as a result of her pursuit for justice, will Kate lose all hope of renewing a life that has already robbed her of so much?
I read the first book to the end. That was a bit of a chore but the story held it together. The heroine (can I call Miss Perfect that?) was just too too too perfect, always correct, her intuitions better than anyone else... so good in fact the FBI agent offered a job right away. She was so tough after her ordeal and she did go through quite a bit of stress, and scary life threatening events. However the second book in the series started with terrible consequences of her previous ordeals and again a nut case is fascinated by her, the tension builds up in the first few pages. Perhaps as a stand alone book it would be ok but I cannot go through her angst and soul searching for another three days. Quite a few misprints, and blatant no editing. Ie she is in her nighty from the hospital, very skimpy etc and the murderer starts unbuttoning her pants... I don’t think so. Too bad.
This book set is very well written but I have to admit that I found the second books ending depressing. Kate suffers so much in the first three books. She is a very strong woman who manages to remake herself each time a major tragedy happens. In each story you know who the bad guy is but getting to them is a bit of a journey. There are always twists in the story that have you reeling. I liked the stories but they aren't necessarily happily ever after ones. The subject matter is a bit heavy so I'm torn about reading the rest in the series. However it's so hard to find a series that has characters that you like and want to know more about. Most series start to fall apart with stories that aren't as good as previous ones. I don't see this happening which makes me think I'll try the next one.
All three are exceptional books you will not want to put down.
1. Action filled and non-stop suspense. Put yourself in the shoes of a serial killer's only escapee, can you... really? Highly emotional and addictive! 2. Superb character development in Kate, Marshall and Nick. Again highly emotional story and writing. The plot was exceptional! Curious to read of Kates growth in the 3rd book and how she once again handles the adversity. 3. Kate's journey through training and a case that touches on several of her past experiences. Beautiful writing and flow to this story you will not want to put down. A bit of a cliffhanger at the end, but really, can you even consider stopping after books 1-3?
I only gave this book a 1* because of the main character. I find her unlikable and this makes the book difficult for me to read. This may be a testament to good writing as the character is fleshed out enough to make me dislike her but there are a couple of instances where I find it a little too contrived and the character too soap opera like.
A times the min character, Kate was annoying. She didn't seem to take direction well. Her struggles to fit in could be what many people have felt at times. Overall it was amazing to see how much she developed skills and won.
Would have enjoyed these books had all the pages downloaded . Enjoyed what I read , bringing when you turn a page and come up with a blank page you wonder what you missed .
I chose this rating because there is none higher. There's drama, sure, but all the characters are completely fleshed out, and the story keeps you on the edge of your seat. Great series!!
It's hard to put into words how much I love Robin Mahle's writing! I highly recommend this book! I'm not going to give any details out of respect for others that have yet to read this. You will not be disappointed!
I think these are books that must be read in order or much of the history won't make sense, The story lines were good and it was nice that there wasn't a mash of profanity and graphic sex.
The author has written a very interesting and entertaining stories of one woman’s rocky road to becoming a FBI special agent. Must reading for a person who enjoys crime stories.
Kate Reid, a former victim of a predator, comes into her own in these first 3 books of this FBI mysteries. Solidly written, good characters & interesting plots. Really enjoyed these & look forward to the rest of this authors books.
The book was a little wordy and lacked polish. However, as the story progresses the plot took over and I became totally engrossed in the story. It was a great read.!
I loved all three books, as the kept my attention and it was very hard to put them down. I would recommend reading this mystery author to anyone liking that kind of literature.
All three books were well written. I noticed more editing errors in the first two. I didn’t feel it was compelling reading but it was good. She does a good job developing Kate Reid.
I started these books 2 days ago, first time I have read this author, wow had a hard time getting any thing else done, going to go for book 4 right now.
This series 1-3 has been a crazy rollercoaster of emotions!!! This is a Great example of Law Enforcement working together!!! I enjoy that because working in Law Enforcement sometimes it's not true. The awesomeness of Kate was amazing!!! I am excited for the next Book!!! Thanks for your work Author Robin Mahler!!!
This is a wonderful set of three very good mystery, suspense books. KATE is a wonderful character, when bad things happen she somehow sets up to the plate and handles the situation with great inner strength.
