Riley is perfectly comfortable being a single code jockey and watching movies at home in her sweats – she’s a fiercely independent woman, successful and intelligent, and she has no use for vapid conversations or relationships. Unless, of course, they are work-related.
Being one of only two women at her computer security firm, she is chosen to work a job for a corporate client with some…special requirements. In order to not raise any suspicions regarding their security leak, Riley must masquerade as the CEO’s latest supermodel conquest, hanging on his arm at various functions as well as around the office, wearing slinky outfits and painfully high heels, and pretending she hasn’t a thought in her pretty head.
All because the client insists.
Riley is far out of her comfort zone on this case, and her maddening but handsome playboy client, constantly criticizing and controlling her looks, doesn’t make her job any easier.
She can’t wait to get back to her movies and sweats, but CEO Dirk Kent seems to have other ideas. And what Dirk wants, he tends to get.
NOTE: This is Part 1 of a 3 part serial. Cliffhanger ending! Books 2 and 3 are FREE with Kindle Unlimited.
I really don't understand the number of high ratings for this.
Riley works for a cyber security type company and she is searching for a leak in a financial investment firm. Dirk (what an awful name) is the CEO of said firm and he's convinced that if she pretends to be his girlfriend, she would have better access to information and determine the source of the leak.
We enter the story in the middle of what seems to be a fashion makeover.... and we don't know why, which was confusing enough, but then it seems like every other page had a typo, a grammatical error, a poorly written sentence or just incorrect information so it was hard to not be confused. For example, at a formal dinner you do not start at the inside out but the outside in. WTF? Also, last time I checked, eyes can't be husky blue, but their color can be DUSKY blue. There were also a number of places where it was just confusing. Do his parents live in Connecticut or Martha's Vineyard?
I am also tired of characters turning into Nancy Drew at the drop of a hat. You get a creepy vibe from the dude who you think emailed you and you still want to go meet him... and you're not going to tell the guy who hired you?? None of it makes sense.
I liked this book but I find Riley rather reckless. When you're intuition tells you that something is not right with someone you don't make plans to meet them where no one knows how to find you. As a woman you have to think about safety in that type of business. Self defense is important for all women especially in that line of work. Pepper spray, a whistle, a line open with a friend on the other line in case something happens!! I know that this is a novel but be more realistic! All this after almost being raped at a family gathering full of people? Any fool would have been more careful.
I really did enjoyed the story. Totally different from my usual reads and I am glad I took the chance. I read all three books on one sitting.
What I didn't like. It needs editing. Misspelled words. Sentences that do not make sense. I highlighted tons of boo boos. I am looking forward to reading more of Me. Devall's books
Started out as a mystery interlaced with romance undeserving of Dirk. Riley, doing her job as best she can is mistrusted by Dirk. Because of his lack of trust and not believing Riley, she gets in trouble.
Simply spellbinding. I couldn't put this book down. It is full of intrigue. I can't wait to find out who has been hacking the billionaire in book two. Is it the brother or his best friend?
This has been a great series to read. It tells us that the closest people to us are the ones with the most power to hurt us. But it is also up to us to be the bigger person and forgive them.
