Julie Keller relishes the simple things: hot chocolate on winter nights, good friends she calls her family, and her laid-back career as a massage therapist and yoga instructor. Julie is content with her life until Chase Rider returns to Bakersfield.
Bodyguard Chase Rider isn’t thrilled to be back in the town where he spent his childhood summers. His beloved grandmother passed away, leaving him a house in need of major repairs. With a three-week timetable and a lot to do, he doesn’t have time for distractions. Then he bumps into Julie, the one woman he hoped never to see again. Chase tries to pretend Julie doesn’t exist, but ten years hasn’t diminished his attraction to the hazel-eyed stunner.
When a stranger grabs Julie’s arm at the grocery store—a woman who insists Julie’s life isn’t what it seems, Chase can’t help but get involved. Julie and Chase dig into a twenty-five-year-old mystery, unearthing more questions than answers. But the past is closer than they realize, and the consequences of the truth have the potential to be deadly.

Answers For Julie by Cate Beauman hooked me from the very beginning. It also raises the question, do you like Prologues? After reading this one, you may be convinced.
Chase Rider is back in Bakersville, to fix up his grandmother’s home that he inherited when she died, and to sell it. He works for Ethan Security in Los Angeles and he is determined to head back as soon as possible. Little does he know that grandma had other plans for him. Memories surround him, so it’s off to get some comfort food, and I agree, pizza is the best. That is why I love Cate Beauman’s stories so much. She hits all the buttons and make me feel as if I am walking through the pages WITH the characters.
He, literally, bumps into Julie. She is as beautiful as ever. They had been childhood friends and sweethearts. It has been ten years, ten long years, since they have seen each other. The attraction for both of them has never left, but will they admit it? No way. In fact, Chase is being quite the **** and I wish he’d get over himself. lol
I wondered when the past would meet the future, but I did’t see this. I am only at 18% and lapping up the words like a thirsty dog. I can hardly wait to see how the story unravels. Now, I need to keep myself from racing through the pages so fast I miss the mysterious journey along the way.
A simple trip to the grocery store changed everything for Julie. Oh man, now I won’t be able to quit until the last page is read. A sense of anticipation overwhelms me and I see how Chase, the handsome hunk from Ethan Security, will come in handy, his tools, his connections with the FBI…I am at 30% and I cannot imagine what the next 70% will hold.
The romance is back and forth, yeah, expected that, but it’s not too much. Enough to seem real but not so much to make the story lag. Good job Cate. But what about the mystery? Seems cut and dried, so where are you taking this?
UH OH! I am a very suspicious and mistrusting person and I hope Julie is too.
I am always trying to figure out the story before I learn it and love when twists and turns keep my head spinning and my fingers flipping pages. I know I’ve been thinking of the right motive the whole time, but who is the villain? OH NO! I just thought…NO…that can”t be right. Then who?
My eyes are so blurry I can hardly see the words. I have to take a break.
OK, now I get why Miranda did what she did.
Every time I think the end has to be around the corner, Cate Beauman throws more mystery and danger at me. I love how she twists and turn me in the direction she wants me to go and I eagerly follow. I have a few suspects left…
Heartache, smiles, romance, love, mystery and danger. All the elements that make a perfect romantic suspense thriller, plus, putting this over the top!
I purchased Answer For Julie by Cate Beauman from Amazon back in October of 2016. I would have read it sooner had I known what I was missing.
This by far is the best in the series. I'm blown away by how brilliant this book actually is. For the reasons that usually the heroines think they know better but hello, someone is trying to kill you, so maybe you don't know better. Not once did the heroine have this syndrome. Therefore. BONUS.
Now if any of you read my reviews you know that I am not a fan of second chance romance. Maybe because I'm a cynic or maybe it is how it is written or should I write how well it is written.
Right from the time a sweet, an innocent child was kidnapped I was hooked. So I give it a smashing.......
5 'Second chances are a rare gift' stars.
Julie Keller lives in Bakersfield she fell in love with the boy next door until things went wrong as young love usually does unless you are really lucky. Ten years later she is still in Bakersfield and is now a yoga instructor with her own studio.
Chase Rider never wanted to come back to Bakersfield but ever since his Nana died and he inherited the house he has affairs that need to be put in order. On his first night back he bumps into the girl next door and his first love and let's face there never was anyone else for Chase. As there never was anyone else for Julie.
They both made mistakes but now have a chance to work things out although Chase is adamant that he will be leaving shortly and doesn't want to get involved. They both made mistakes and with a lot of strength and conversation they overcome it and if Julie lets him then they can have something truly beautiful.
Solving a 25 year mystery added a lot of suspense to the story and was well balanced with the romantic aspect of the book. Chase is a best book boyfriend. Incredible sweet yet tough and strong. Discovering the how, the why, the when and the where was interesting. Although I knew who it was I always love reading how it will get to that point and what will happen.
And that ending? Holy shite peeps not what I expected. I would recommend this book.
‘Answers For Julie’ is the ninth book in the Bodyguards of L.A. County series. In the last year I’ve read the first books in this series and totally fell in love with Cate Beauman’s characters and her writing. So since it had been a while since I read the previous book in the series, it was definitely time to read ‘Answers For Julie’.
Maybe it was because I haven’t read a Cate Beauman book for a while, or maybe this book was just very good, which is the right answer I think, but ‘Anwers For Julie’ really blew my mind. I loved this book! And I just didn’t want to stop reading! I read all 562 pages in only one day and I read till late at night. It really was just so good.
Julie Keller lives a nice and quiet life in the town she grew up in and has so many beautiful memories. What she didn’t expect was to see her best friend, and once love of her life, to walk back into her little hometown after ten years. Bodyguard Chase Rider has come back to the little town of Bakersfield to sell his grandma’s house. But when he sees Julie, a lot of painful memories come back. Julie and Chase try to ignore each other. But the chemistry and connection they shared all those years ago is still there. And when Julie’s life suddenly turns upside down, Chase can’t help but try to help her out.
Julie and Chase were two amazing characters I loved reading about. From the very first page their chemistry was coming out of the pages. And I just didn’t want to stop reading about them. I loved how ‘Answers For Julie’ was just as great a romance story, as a mystery and a thriller. Just like the characters I was dying to know what was the deal with Julie’s past. And it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat.
Although ‘Answers For Julie’ is already the ninth book in this series, I still can’t get enough of this amazing series. Each book is filled with romance and mystery and I just love getting to know all these characters.
‘Anwers For Julie’ is definitely my new favorite Cate Beauman book. And if you haven’t started this series yet, I suggest you’ll start ASAP!
Book 9 in the series and this series keep getting better. Julie likes her simple life as a massage therapist and yoga instructor in the little town she grew up in. A chance encounter with a woman at the local store changes her life as she knows it. Chase returns to Bakersfield after his grandmother dies and leaves him her house, which is next door to Julie. Chase and Julie were inseparable as children and teenagers and then he left to pursue his dream to become an FBI agent. When he returns, their meeting leaves anger and bad feelings on both sides. This is one of the best books of the series with lots of twists and turns and some unexpected events before Chase and Julie get their HEA.
Answers For Julie (The Bodyguards of L.A. County #9) by author Cate Beauman is a romantic mystery in the Bodyguards series. Julie Keller is a delightful young woman who enjoys her home, Christmas, and the sweet memories of Nana. Although Nana is not really Julie's grandmother, she was like family and lived next door to Julie. Nana was actually the grandmother of Chase Rider, who had spent his summers at Nana's so he has a little bit of a past with Julie. Chase is an FBI agent from Washington who has three weeks to prepare the old house for sale. So, Julie and Chase are crossing paths and sometimes mixing their signals of attraction during the first half of the book. I thought the story started a little slow, and there is more romance than mystery. I liked the characters and the story is an interesting one. Imagine Julie's confusion when she begins to suspect her life is not as she had always believed after a stranger in the grocery store approaches her and calls her Ally. I won't post spoilers, but it is an easy to read story with good characters, but there is some strong language. I have read other Cate Beauman books which I enjoyed. Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This must be one of my favourites out of the entire series. It grips you from the start and doesn't let go until the very last page.
Chase is an employee of Ethan Cooke Security who has inherited his grandmother's house in Bakersville. He decides to fix up the house, put it up for market and leave as soon as possible. However, things do not go according to the plan.
It has been a decade since Chase has seen Julie, his childhood friend and sweetheart. They have not parted on good terms and Chase is doing his best to avoid Julie, however that it easier said than done. Julie is determined to explain what happened all those year prior. Then out of nowhere, a woman is claiming that Julie is her lost daughter that has been kidnapped when she was only four years old and the life as Julie knew it is blown into smithereens.
I loved the way Chase and Julie have reconnected, it didn't feel rushed at all. The pacing was just perfect. I love how supportive Chase was to Julie's new reality and how he helped her make sense of it. He was really the perfect hero.
Answers For Julie is filled with suspense and angst. There are few things that happen that I never saw coming, which has me sitting at the edge of my seat for almost the entire duration of the story. I definitely recommend picking up this one!
First of all, I love this series and have read all the other books, so this was a must read for me. This is also why I devoured this book in roughly 4hours, occasionally stopping for work. I enjoyed the main characters in this story, although they aren't my favourite of the series, but found myself hoping for some extra action at points. The twists of this story are good, and had me both giggling and crying. I thought the actual ending was a bit rushed, everything seemed to kick off in the last few pages of the book, not really giving you time to fully grasp what's gone on before it's over. Also, I wish there was slightly more in these later stories about the previous characters, the earlier stories in the series had more over lap of characters, whereas the last couple have barely had any. I miss this, as well as the interactions between the characters from previous stories as these added a humorous and more in depth feel to all the books. Some of the newer books have had barely any introduction to the new male characters, I think the next one will be about Reed(?) but nothing has been really said. I did enjoy this book, and will definitely buy the next one. This book could easily be read as a standalone as well as part of the series.
Answers for Julie wasn't as high suspense as Alexa's book or Wren's (If my memory serves me correctly, Wren's book was like super intense!) but it was still an amazing read!
It took me a few days to read, mainly because my boss wants me to actually work when I'm at the office... WEIRD! Although it took me a few days, I was still on the edge of my seat and wanted to constantly know what happens next! I felt like a detective, trying to solve the mystery and I loved it!
I feel like I have more to say but I am unfortunately at work and have to hop off. I finished the book while I was eating breakfast at my desk so I thought I would hop on here and write how awesome this book was. And I am certainly looking forward to the next one! :)
The book was good at the beginning, however it started tanking for me about a third of the way through. How Julie could keep whining and failing to see the obvious is beyond me. It got to a point where part of me wanted her to die so the pouting could stop. I tied to be sympathetic, I really did. Anyway, this book has left me with no desire to read any others in the series. I basically had to skim the last half just to get it over with.
Interesting story. Just when you think it's settling down to a sweet romance, the plot takes another twist so you end up with a mystery within a mystery thriller and yeah a long-lost love romance too. Highly enjoyable!
Chase is back home to quickly flip the home of his beloved grandmother. He fully intends to return to his newly adopted home in LA asap! This town holds way too many memories for him, not all good, and far too many of them star Julie Keller.
He soon finds out that Nana was keeping secrets, cos Julie is his new neighbour and she was a big part of his grandmothers life. She still has the ability to make his heart stall and brain disengage. They were beset friends and then matured into something else. But their young love went askew and he is no mind to rekindle it.
But when a mysterious stranger accosts Julie in a local store, Chase finds himself front and centre once more, because it looks like Julie has a lot of secrets to uncover and she may have problems that she can handle.
Chase was a bit of an ass at times and you really wanted to kick his butt on more than one occasion. Julie may have a hippy dippy lifestyle according to some but she is happy with her lot, even though a few extra bucks wouldn't be amiss. Neither of them saw the trouble that Julie was in coming and as the past is revealed I loves the way the two clung to each other.
You can feel for Julie, her mother and eventually even the person she called mother. I felt so emotional when the newly reunited family was blown apart yet again. Chase jus goes into protector mode and I felt that he could face anything head on and win!
I enjoyed book 9 of The Bodyguards very much. Sometime the story of past lovers finding their way back to one another can be more satisfying than two people that have just met. I loved being a part of Chase and Julie's journey of finding themselves as a couple again. But I also enjoyed reading about Julie finding herself after discovering she'd been kidnapped as a little girl.
I also enjoyed reading about Julie and Neve discovering their relationship as well and the bond they were creating before it was tragically cut short.
I do wish we had gotten a glimpse of Noah and Julie coming together as was hinted at in the final chapter. And probably my main complaint was the flimsy reason that Elaine had for wanting Julie/Alyson dead. Maybe if Julie had been an only child I could kinda see her jealously over her birth taking time away from her best friend. But as the second born, it didn't make a whole lot of sense.
There are only 2 more Bodyguard books left (as of my writing this review) and it saddens me a bit. I feel a bit of an attachment to these characters and I do like how Ms. Beauman incorporates the couples from the past novels into the current novels so we can keep up with them even in an indirect way. I hope there are more Bodyguards books left in Ms. Beauman's brain waiting to see the light of day.

5 stars. This series just keeps getting better and if you haven't read the other books in the I highly recommend it. This was a story of 2nd chance love but also had so many other twists and turns it had you on the edge of your seat and nothing gets done as you say to yourself 'just one more chapter then I'll move'. Chase and Julie became friends then sweethearts when he spent summer vacations with his grandparents it ended when life and misunderstanding got in the way, years later Chase is back to sort out the house left to him in his grandmother's will. Julie is still there and he hoped he wouldn't have to run into her. As old feelings rekindle and new ones grow the two are drawn together but neither would have expected the twist and turns that follow when Julie is approached in the grocery store by a woman with a strange and unnerving tale to tell. As past secrets come to light Julie's life is put in danger. Will Chase be able to save her and they find their HEA. Another great story with great characters and a heroine you cheer for as she doesn't make stupid decisions and listens to the advice given to her when she is in danger. Highly recommended read.
Julie Keller is a yoga instructor and massage therapist and has her own studio on the bottom floor of the house she grew up in. Chase Rider is an ex FBI Agent and now works for Ethan Cooke Security. He returns to Bakersfield to get his deceased grandmother’s house ready to sell. He spent his summers and Christmas there every year and fell in love with the neighbor’s granddaughter, Julie. They broke up 10 years ago and these two can’t get over the hurt. When Julie is confronted by a woman in the local grocery store her whole life is put into chaos and danger. Chase is determined to be the friend to Julie he use to be and help her figure out who she is and her future. This is a suspenseful read and I thought I knew who the bad guy is (I was right by the way) but had me second guessing myself. This is a very good addition to this series.
Julie owns a massage and yoga studio. She gives ice skating lessons and loves her little town. Chase was the boy next door. Best friend and then boyfriend until he went off to join the FBI. Chase is back to fix up and sale his grandmother’s house after she passed away. Julie wants to apologize for what happened ten years ago but Chase won’t give her the chance. When I woman at a grocery store tells her that is life is not as it seems, Julie is about to find out how right that woman was. Accidents start happening to Julie and Chase realizes he still loves her and will do whatever it takes to find out who’s targeting Julie. Suspense, mystery, steamy, and action. It will keep you on the edge of your seat till the very end.
Julie knowing a simple life, until an incident happened at the grocery store. Seeing Chase again, to settle the house that his grandmother had left him. A lot of mistake and secrets from the past, as well as an old love. The plot was great, a young child is taken, the child knew the person. One wonders how close of a relationship did the person have to the family. It doesn’t dwell on this, it is picked up later. The characters and setting were well described as though you were there. Great series, each is better, and a readers delight to read another by Cate. Given ARC by Net Galley for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
I really enjoyed the mystery of Allyson or Ally as she was called. The romance, between Julie and Chase, was okay too but the story had some inconsistencies and Julie was written as very whiny and stubborn. I liked the first quarter of the book and the last quarter of the book. I was not surprised by who was responsible for the kidnapping but liked how Chase figured it out.
But this book was about 100 pages too long. I didn't really like the main character female Jules. She kept running away (literally) from situations.( I think I counted at least 5 times. ) putting herself in danger. She never stood up for herself when it came to her brother. And I hate when a villain \bad guy doesn't get what's coming to them. Her brother berated her through the entire book and NOTHING happened to him. ??? Where's the justice!?
Julie Keller leads a full life running a yoga studio and doing massage therapy. When ex love Chase returns to town to get his grandmother's house ready to sell after he inherits it he once again runs into Julie. Julie later runs into a stranger who makes claims that start to turn Julie's life around but also threaten her safety. Can Chase help her through this and walk away or will he fall in love.
Reminded me of Sandra Brown. Perfect mix of romance and mystery into the storyline to keep you completely enthralled. I really enjoyed reading this. Honestly was a bit afraid as this was book 9 I may have missed something but no. I would say if you like Sandra Brown, you'll like this.
This book has a complex story with wonderful characters and twists and intrigue. It was a bit too long for me though and I didn't want a character to die. But it does have a mostly happy ending.
Answers for Julie is the ninth romantic suspense book in The Bodyguards of L. A. County series written by author Cate Beauman. Thanks to NetGalley and Kobo Writing Life publishing for the complimentary copy.
This is the 9th book in the series and in my opinion one of the best. It has the romance and the mystery, but neither is so intense that it's not believable and it keeps you guessing and engaged until the end.
Fascinating storyline and great storytelling. I couldn't put the book down. I love Julie and Chase's character. If there was any criticism i would have liked to see a bit more interaction with Julie and Noah nonetheless a fabulous read.
Pretty good. A good bit of sex, but it fit the characters and storyline and was done decently--neither crude or filled with idiotic romance euphemisms. Would read more from this author. 3.5
