Two men want me and I want them. Simple, right? Except for one slight complication…
For over two years, I’ve been dealing with a pain in the butt MY way.
Separately.
She has her life and I have mine. They don’t intermingle. It’s the only way to keep things sane. But now she’s done something monumentally stupid and the only way to untangle myself from her mess is to live life in her shoes. Me, on the run in five inch stilettos. Great.
My name is Trista Dividir. I have Dissociative Identity Disorder and Marvy is my other personality, my alter.
To get my life back, I lie, I cheat, and I fall for both of her lovers. Little do I know, I’m not the only liar.
Did I mention I have another alter? Yeah, I didn’t know about her either.
Book one in a three part contemporary romantic suspense series. This has a mild cliff-hanger ending. Consider yourself forewarned. ** CAUTION: Due to mature language, sexual content, and excessive whatever, this entire series is not intended for an audience under the age of 21. If you are over this age and cannot handle the "vulgarity" detailed within contemporary romances of this century, please don't buy this book. **

Trista has Multiple Personality Disorder. When she was a teenager she was involved in a car accident and soon after started to notice things weren't quite right and things happened she couldn't quite remember.....
Trista is...
A good girl Studies hard Determined to make something of her life Doesn't drink or smoke
Marvy is...
Sexy Confident Aggressive Likes to party hard She uses men for her personal gain and doesn't give a damn what people think of her
What happens when Marvy gets into trouble and their two worlds collide???? This is an intense, gripping story and I haven't read a book with a similar theme before so I didn't know what to expect but,my God it is good.... I loved both sides of her personality but have to admit I LOVED IT when Marvy came out to play....
There are two men who initially are drawn to Marvy and then Trista when they get to know her. I suppose you could say Alex is the 'good guy' and Bryson is the 'bad guy'.For most of the book I was team Alex but then towards the end Bryson showed a different side...
NOTE
While there are two men involved it's not a love triangle...a bit cryptic,I know, but it's hard to explain without spoilers The twists and turns and drama had me enthralled and right up to end I had no idea what was going to happen. It does end on a cliffy but thankfully book two is out soon and I'm really looking forward to more of this story.......
When can it be your first time, but your alter ego gave it away without you?
One could easily confuse a reader when it comes to multiple personalities appearing in and out of the story, but SVC Ricketts handles it flawlessly. After a GoodReads review by JUDITH of the 2nd in the series, I knew this was a series I had to read. It was a pretty fast hook. Trista had some sort of trauma in her past, perhaps the car accident that took her father's life, or something to do with the death of her twin brother, but definitely something that caused her disorder. Her good friend Kitta figured it out after the car accident and the two have kept her secret, from Trista's brother Jones and her Mom, Mr. P and everyone else.
Trista is an overachiever. Not quite 18, she's already a sophomore in a local college and hopes to get accepted and transfer her junior year to Baylor. She can fix anything, using her talents to work at Mr. Ps fix it store. More recently she put her computer science skills to the test creating a jeweled ear cuff camera to record the adventures of her alter ego Marvy. Marvy is a handful, giving their virginity away, hitting the bars, drinking, doing drugs and lately getting herself in some hot water with some seriously dangerous characters. To find her car that Marvy came home without, Trista has to view the ear cam footage. If this is what being a voyeur is like, sign up good girl Trista, cause Marley visits not one, but two hotties at the Club. Trista goes to retrieve her car and finds herself feeling things she's never felt or touched after an encounter with hottie #1 Alex , or Xander as he prefers.
Hottie #2, Bryson, is a dangerous man, has dangerous friends, and a dangerously sexy body to boot. Both Xander and Bryson are mesmerized first by Marly, but upon discovering Trista, they want more. There is more of course, more layers to this gorgeous girl, more personalities than even Trista knows.
What would happen if you woke up one morning in your comfy bed, found yourself decked out like you had been to a nightclub, you are stinking of smoke and booze, then realize that you have bruises and no memory of how you got them? Welcome to Trista's world! Pieces of One Part 1: The Dark Life Collection, is a marvelously written romantic suspense created by author extraordinaire SVC Ricketts. The storyline is twisted, unforeseen and convoluted to the point where the reader is unable to predict the outcome and left pondering the enormous gap between what is real and what is fantasy.
Trista Dividr is highly intelligent and preparing to attend Baylor where she hopes to obtain a degree in computer science. Her life has not been normal since the accident that killed her father and left her emotionally scarred. Her mom, brother, Jones and best friend Kitta help keep her grounded. Her intellect allows her to follow the escapades of her alter personality, Marvy. Marvy is the diabolical opposite of Trista. She enjoys partying hard and getting down and dirty. Her collection of clothes includes her beloved stilettos, miniscule dresses topped off with wild hair and make-up out to there, these are only a few of the differences between the two personalities. When Trista's car comes up missing her life is altered forever. The events begin a domino effect down a twisted pathway of new beginnings, altered awareness, developing maturity and life changing decisions.
Alexander (Alex) is part owner of a nightclub called The Rush, located in Keystone. Trista has no recollection of any sexual encounters, while Marvy has had many. When she first meets Alex, he mistakes her for Marvy and the chemistry flows between them. Although Trista begins as a blushing virgin, Alex enables her womanly desires to flourish, and to develop. She becomes a stronger and more confident Trista which in the past has always been Marvy's role.
Bryson is an older sexy villain/mafia type character, yet there is also a sensitive side to him. The taboo of this relationship, between an older man and a much younger woman, adds layers to this complicated storyline. There is an unknown secret he is keeping to himself about his previous love life and the reason his feelings are so deep toward Marvy/Trista. Does he really love Trista or is it Marvy he really wants? Can you love two people at one time or is this just a confused mind like the rest of Trista’s life?
The first book in this trilogy is an introduction to Trista's voyage of discovery and is one book you will not want to miss. You will find yourself unable to put it down and then the ending will have you yearning, if not demanding the next part. The use of Trista's alternating personalities is brilliant as they exist individually as well as collectively in order to protect her. SVC Ricketts has written a phenomenal story and waiting for the next installment will be excruciatingly painful and exciting at the same time.
4.5 Stars, review to post on www.afterdarkbooklovers.com on 6/15/15. All I can say is, wow, reading a book where the main character has multiple personalities was a trip. SVC needs to get me book 2 ASAP lol.
** Received on behalf of the author for an honest review **
What would life be like being someone else? What would life be like being more than someone else? What if you were them? Not just you, but them as well?
Welcome to Trista's life.
You see Trista is young, vibrant, studying, working a part-time job. Her best friend Kitta knows who she is. Trista knows who she is, but can't remember.
The only way Trista knows who she is, is by video tape. Unexplained outings. Unexplained spendings. Unexplained meetings. Unexplained calculus equations worked out. Trista knows it's not her. Trista knows it's her.
Her name.
Marvy.
Marvy is stunning, confident and simply beautiful. She's smart and sassy.
But why is she Trista? What does she want? Why does she only come out every so often? What is her agenda? Will Marvy ultimately ruin Trista? Or is there more to Marvy's presence that Trista knows nothing about?
And what about the other one? Who is she? Why does she only come out on the rare occasion? And why does Marvy know who she is, but Trista doesn't?
Pretty cryptic yeah?
Well the only way to find out exactly who Trista is, is to simply read Pieces Of One to find out.
We simply couldn't put it down. From the very first line, we were entranced. It's full of emotion. We laughed, we cried, we held our breath. It's full of twist and turns it kept us constantly guessing. The banter between the characters within this novel was simply brilliant.
Overall it's just an absolute not to be missed read.
SVC did an amazing job, writing with such detail and depth we could feel the emotions pouring out from the pages. We could feel each of the characters, their struggles, their pain, their strength, their will to fight. We were simply captivated.
We were given the amazing opportunity to beta read Pieces Of One.
To SVC, thank you so much for having the faith in us. We will forever be grateful. We cannot wait for the second instalment.
This is one of those books that I find very hard to catergorise, it dips into quite a few areas but doesn't fully seat itself in most of them. It has many elements.
I really enjoyed Pieces of One, I did have a couple of red flags lines that made me question certain things, the writing is very young, the heroine only 17 and it's what this 17yr old can turn her hand to that has me disbelieving a few things. And the fact that the powers that be are willing to throw a naive 17yr old into the mix like they are. My sensible head was arguing with me a lot to be nit picky.
The thing is though, the story works, it's slightly different to the norm, although DID seems to be done a bit lately, the way it's done here, well it works and it works well. Now the thing is I don't much care for Marvy, I am team Trista, I like my good girls, that's just my preference, but what you find is you start liking Marvy, she shows slivers of good and non-selfishness in her. Val - well she's fine till she speaks, then what da hell is dat! lol.
I am 100% invested to want to know what happens next, yes I wish the characters were more adult but they are likeable, Alex for the most part I like, and it's weird by I err towards Bryson more. Strange that. So I wonder what he's going to do to make me hate him - we shall see.
I received a copy of Pieces of One in return for an honest review, my reviews are my own and are 100% honest.
Pieces of One was my second run in with a plot that involved multiple personalities. There are many different types of ways with dealing with multiple personalities, or alters as author S. V. C. Ricketts describes them. Some are aware of their multiple personalities and can interact with them, some are not aware of their existence, and some like Trista Dividir can coexist, somewhat peacefully, with her alter. Book 1 of the series has proven to be surprising, entertaining and suspenseful. It was the kind of book that I didn’t want to put down and the kind of book you wanted to read again in case there was some tidbit of information you might have missed.
It was only a few years ago that Trista Dividir discovered she was living with an alternate personality, one who called herself Marvy. She noticed things being moved, clothes she didn’t remember buying, and pockets of time in her memory missing. One day she wakes up after Marvy’s had a night out and finds herself disoriented. Things are missing, she’s in pain, bruised, and worried about what Marvy has been up too. Thanks to a video camera installed on her ear cuff, Trista now has video of everything Marvy has been up to, and what she discovers will spiral her, her friends, family and even Marvy’s acquaintances into a world of trouble that none of them could have predicted.
At first I wasn’t sure I’d like this book considering how DARK and INTENSE it sounded just by reading the first couple of pages. Because you know me, I go in with blind faith, no teasers, no promo nothing! Everything I’d heard about this book made me afraid…AND YOU SHOULD BE AFRAID! CAUSE THIS BOOK IS SUSPENSEFUL AF! Holy crap….every page was like, “omg…omg what’s going to happen omg…” That’s what it felt like dealing with an alternate personality. You never knew what bad thing they were going to do or when they were going to pop up next.
Ricketts really hit the nail with this novel because dealing with multiple personalities/alters and multiple povs and voices is difficult. Each alter has to sound different and act a different way and that isn’t always easy. I love Trista and the main characters a lot but some just felt sort of….side…ish like support. Her best friend, Kitta who is hilarious by the way, just seemed….sort of extra sometimes even though she was her anchor to her life. Her brother, some of the other people I won’t mention because spoilers also seemed extra….but the MAIN PEOPLE! who I also can’t mention, that’s where the story is at and by the end I think you’ll be like me and go, “What..What…No…WHAT!? STOOPPP ITTTT!”
Couple of minor criticisms and concerns I had mostly had to do with the POV and what the character is seeing. There are several scenes where Trista is going over some video of what Marvy did the night before. We as the reader and as Trista are technically viewing this video through first person, meaning the cuff is on Marvy’s ear. There are instances during this where Ricketts will mention Marvy’s change in facial expression or something you wouldn’t notice if you were watching a video in first person. (Because how could you see a person’s facial expression unless there’s a mirror or some reflection they’re looking directly into). This is just something minor some readers may or may not notice but gives the story more depth of the character which was why it was necessary. After speaking to Ricketts about this (wondering whether or not it was intentional) she explained to me that she too was conflicted over this but again ultimately adds to the story instead of taking away from it.
If I can be completely honest….I feel like the romance is almost UNNECESSARY because the story is so good. I mean…come on…romance has to happen, and it’s…AWESOME, and hot…and…mmm I’m thinking about it now… But the romance doesn’t TAKE UP the entire story, it isn’t centered around romance; it’s more about the suspense, and the story that gets you. The romance is extra and it’s smexy ;)
Overall, this book is an amazing and extremely suspenseful read with a bunch of twists and turns that I didn’t expect. I honestly can’t wait to see what Trista and Marvy are up to in book two and the rest of the series. Even though I hear Book 2 is going be….serious… *spoilers lol*
This book was different and I loved it. It was a little dark; there was romance, mystery, and more. I was completely sucked into this book once I started reading it. The characters pull you in and the story is wonderfully written. I can't wait to read the next part of this story. Trista was in an accident with her father several years ago. Shortly after the accident she began to notice little things than her friend noticed other things. Trista has alternate personalities. Marvy is the complete opposite of Trista. She is aggressive, dresses provocatively, man fall at her feet, she does whatever she wants and doesn't care what anyone thinks. Trista is focused on school and getting a good career. She is super smart and doesn't go to parties, or date or anything like that. Now her life and Marvy's life are crashing into each other. What has Marvy gotten her into now? Trista meets Alex while retrieving her car from where Marvy left it. Trista is often frustrated by how flawless and easy it is for Marvy compared to her. Alex saves Trista after some trouble. Only it’s Trista who is there in the morning not Marvy. Alex notices something is different and Trista tells him everything. Alex finds that he wants something with Trista; she makes him feel things he has never felt before. Will Alex and Trista be able to have something or will her alters get in the way? Is Marvy Trista's only alter or are there more? Trista finds herself having to pretend to by Marvy sometimes. I have only read one other book about alters and it was different than this one. This book has twists and turns that make you want to keep reading to see what happens next. Trista is learning that her alters aren't different people but different parts of herself. Will she realize that she can still act those alters and be herself without them once again. The only people who know about Trista's alters and Kitta her best friend and now Alex. I could go on but I don't want to give away any spoilers.
I could not image waking up and having to look thru footage just to know what I did the night before. This is part of Trista's wild and wacky world! SVC Ricketts has out done herself. This book captivated me from the first chapter it was so well written. The storyline is definitely out there with a rollercoaster of things you couldn't even image being a person's really daily life. Trista Dividr has worked her whole life preparing to attend Baylor for a degree in computer science. But ever since the accident that killed her father and left her with a slew of different people fighting each emotion inside her head to protect her from life and what it brings her. Her intellect comes in handy when trying to figure out what her alter personality, Marvy is up to. Which she finds out Marvy is the complete opposite of herself she's the alpha of them all, dresses sexy, the men love her and she loves the men. She does whatever she wants and doesn't care who gets in her way or what they think of her. Trista is focused on school and getting a good career after school. She doesn't go to parties and she is still a "virgin". Trista meets Alex while trying to get her car from where Marvy left it the club. Alex notices something is different about "Marvy" and after certain events occur Trista tells him everything about her personalities. The question is can they make this relationship work or will her alters ruin it all before they even start. Throughout the story Trista has to learn to cope with the fact that her alters aren't different people but different emotions and parts of herself. There are so many unanswered questions but and I hoping there will be more books to come in this series. So prepare yourself to be amazed by the ups, downs of the life of Trista and her alters!!!
ARGH! Sorry… just had to get that out. I knew it would probably end in a cliff hanger since it is part one, but it still caught me by surprise. Trista is a the kind of teenage girl you see in those "makeover" movies. You know, the ones where the girl is obviously attractive but doesn't wear makeup or do her hair in anything other than a ponytail and her clothes are all too big and second hand. She's extremely smart and has plans to attend Baylor. By day she is the perfect daughter. By night… well… Marvy comes out to play. Marvy is Trista's other personality. She's confident and sexy. She's the "after makeover" part of those movies. Marvy goes to parties and clubs, drinks, smokes, and does pretty much everything else that Ms. Perfect, Trista, won't. Now, she's in trouble… which means Trista is in trouble as well. This is the point where their worlds collide and things get messy… and interesting. I liked this book a lot. There's just the right amount of mystery, drama, and humor. At first I was puzzled but it all came together. This author did a great job at making what could have been a very confusing story rather enjoyable. While it did end suddenly, it wasn't so bad that it made me angry… okay… maybe I did want to throw my kindle just a little bit… Can't wait to see where this story goes. I absolutely love Trista, Marvy, and Alex/Xander… and strangly… I'm starting to even like Bryson even though I know I shouldn't. lol

*Thank you to the author for providing me with an eARC in exchange for a honest review.
If you are looking for suspense and erotic romance in all the wrong yet sinfully right and sexy places, Pieces of One is the novel for you!
My first Svc Ricketts novel AND IT IS PROVING TO BE SO AMAZING!
Pieces of One reminds me of the Korean drama - Kill Me, Heal Me. The big difference, is that one is a drama where skilled actors are needed, another relies on her writing skills and…can I just say how talented Miss Svc Ricketts is?!
Really, the scenes are hot, the men are hot, and even Trista and her Pieces are HOT!
Marvy is the bad girl inside Trista and she is one sexy, confident and badass woman. Trista is sexy in her own sweet and kind way.
Oh! Oh! Did I mention Valeria? Honestly, that woman is a real badass IN THE SKIN! I have this image of an Amazonian Warrior in my mind, like where Wonder Woman came from!
I swear, Pieces of One is full of TWISTS!
TWISTS EVERYWHERE!
It’s like I ship these two people together AND SUDDENLY, BAM!
When I reach the end, I have a totally new perspective on the other guy and I was shipping the other two. Oh god, I have so MANY QUESTIONS.
I NEED THE NEXT PART.
This is a novel that I would highly recommend for everyone to read!
Having never thought about what someone with Disassociative Indentity Disorder (a,k.a. Multiple-Personality Disorder) would go through, I found this book interesting. You hear about things that happen, traumas if you will, that cause different personalities to appear. In this book, there is definitely more than meets the eye when it comes to Trista. We know she has Marvy, but does she have more? If so, what happened? How did Marvy come into being with Trista? What else may have happened to Trista? How does she handle meeting someone that Marvy knew and had been intimate with and then she finds herself falling for? What happens when someone else wants to move in, causing another trauma to happen, causing another personality to appear as a protector of Marvy? When Trista is kidnapped, at first the kidnapper thinks it is Marvy, but then quickly realizes it is Trista that is with him, so he starts questioning her, wondering where Marvy is. This book leaves one hell of a cliff hanger, with Trista waiting on the doctor to arrive to check her over. I cannot wait to see what happens to her in Part two. Pieces of One definitely makes sense now, knowing of the pieces of personalities that Trista lives with.
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M.Brennan.
Wow! What an amazing, intense, interesting, unpredictable, twisted, dark story! Trista is a good girl. She studies hard, gets good grades, and stays away from parties. So, when she wakes up in someone else’s bed it’s understandable why she is so confused. Marvy put her there. Marvy is her other personality. She is sexy, a party animal, and everything Trista isn’t. She uses men and throws them away like they are toys.
It’s difficult to summarize this story without giving anything away. It’s full of so many twists and turns that just when you think you know what is going to happen, something else does to prove you wrong! There is so much suspense and drama that it is hard not to get sucked in by the story. I LOVE that about a good book! The push/pull between Trista and Marvy is interesting. The author’s writing is so good. Even the secondary characters are well developed and engaging.
My only criticism is that the book ends with a HUGE cliffhanger!! What?!?!?! Now, I need to grab the next in the series just to see what happens! If you don’t like cliffhangers, you may be better off waiting to read the series one after the other. Other than that, it’s an amazing story!
LOVED it! Read it in one sitting, could not put to down because of how good it is. So much going on, you will not be able to put it down once you start reading it. I loved Tris but I have to say that Marvy was also a very strong character and one that I really liked a lot. In the end I wasn't sure if I wanted Tris or Marvy to be the one in control because Tris was definitely playing with fire once it came to Bryson. I am in love with Alex/Xander and I am hoping with a HEA with Alex but because of how the story ended I am not sure if that will be possible. This story had so many twists and turns that it kept me on the edge of my seat. I liked how different the story is from anything I have ever read, it has mystery, suspense, romance... My only complaint is that I wanted to know their ages, I know Trista/Marvy is 17 but I need to know how old Alex and Bryson are. I know they are older than her because Alex is the owner of the club and Bryson is also rich and the owner of some companies but it never mentions their age and I really wanted to know. Definitely recommend for a good read.
This had such an interesting concept for the heroine's life. Tristiana's DID definitely keeps the story interesting. The different personalities keeps the reader on their toes.
SVC does an amazing job with transitioning through the characters and has a real knack for giving them a life of their own. Tris, Marvy and Veleria were all so different and interesting.
Alexander and Bryson are both equally sexy men that want and desire Marcy/Tris. And because of the trouble Marvy gets in to straight laced, book work, computer geek, Tris finds herself ensnared in a world of crime, with men that all want a piece of her.
Tris shows her strength when put to the test and finds herself truly torn between both men. Each having attributes she is seen to and each of them wanting to claim her as his.
A great story concept and impeccable writing, I couldn't help but get swept away.
Ok. I literally have just finished so bare with me. I'm fan-girling and freaking out right now. First off, I was given a copy of this book to give an honest review, so here we go. An absolute MUST read. It's suspenseful and heart wrenching. It keeps you wondering what the eff is going on, and you can't help but turn the page over and over. The characters are wonderfully portrayed and were given substance, which is sometimes hard to accomplish with so many things happening. I 100% recommend this book and I'm SO excited for the next part!!!!!!! Ok, I'm done, stop reading my words and go buy this book, SVC Ricketts is way better with words than me!
Oooh this is a very different type of thriller. Our heroine has multiple problems. She is trying to work herself through college, to get to a good university. She is very good with all things I.T. But part of her is also a very naughty party girl. That is about to cause so many problems. She must sort out the men in her life if she is going to survive. I'm not sure who her hero is. Alex, or Bryson, they both seem to love her but one is a very bad man. This story is funny, sexy, scary and completely compelling. There is no way that I can miss the next installment.
this was such a different read, a really great story with a twist that keeps you on the edge for lots of great reasons. The characters are down to earth everyday people that you relate to, the scenes can be full of humour then danger then intimate but not where it confuses you, you flow through with it. Tris is your everyday girl with a family but a trauma she went through left her with multiple ego's , she has her best friend Kitt who is the only one who knows. This is a definite read, I highly recommend it.
The Dark Life Collection Pieces of One By SVC Ricketts
Warning **** cliffhanger Ricketts pulls you in quickly and moves right along. The story was fast paced just short of being rushed though. 4 out of 5 stars
Trista is smart and quirky Marvy is fun and reckless Valarie is blunt and dangerous
The 3 of them cause some major havoc for each other, their selves, and the DEA
*An ARC was provided in exchange of an honest review*
OMG!!! That read was crazy addicting!! I can't wait for the next part!!! Part 1 was quite the ride that takes you on some intense twists and turns!!! Soon good!!
I didn't think that Ricketts could top her first book because I loved it so much, but holy fucking shit. She has blew away my brains with Peices of One. I totally loved it in a sick twisted kind of way.
Wow omg talk about mind blown. I couldn't figure out what was real. Is WAS AMAZING. This is one that needs more stars. Absolutely freaking fantastic must read.
Virgin on heart but skilled on pussy and body language.. wew..
A brilliant start to the series (yes it's to be continued...) seriously cannot wait to read more of Marvy and Trista's story !
This is my first book from this author and I absolutely loved it, I was drawn in and captivated right from the very beginning and it was fast paced and unpredictable.
Also a great insight into the mind of someone with multiple personalities.
A really great read full of suspense and drama. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series.
Trista has split personalities. More than she even realizes. When she is forced to pick up the pieces of a mess made by her alter Marvy, she discovers more than she bargained for. Now stuck in the middle of an investigation, she falls for the 2 men on opposite sides. Great twists and turns! Looking forward to Part 2
