Duke Reagan’s mission went to hell. His SEAL teammates dead, abandoned by Command in the middle of an African warlord’s territory, he’s wounded, blind, and on the run with a terrified American, Coreen Prince, a doctor who was supposed to be collateral damage. Somehow, they survive, but not before they lose a bit of their hearts to each other.
Dr. Coreen Prince struggled to put her life back together after her African ordeal, but a slight detour one night in Key West offers her the chance to apologize to the man who saved her at such great cost to himself. Too bad Duke didn't recognize her.
It takes a year to restore Duke's vision, and the return of his sight comes with the opportunity to join the Hard Target team, a not-quite white hat organization doing what government coalitions can’t. His first mission as the team’s sniper puts a drug cartel boss in his sights, but a familiar face that’s haunted Duke since Africa crowds the scope.
On special assignment in South America, Cory once again finds herself in the wrong place at the wrong time. But rescue comes from the last man she expects to see, the one man she can’t forget. Will they get a second chance at love or will he just see her as another double cross…
The HARD TARGET Team: Judge, jury, executioner. The multinational Hard Target special operators hunt the worst of the worst, and each brings their own brand of special to the mix. Genetically enhanced Navy SEALs. Wolf shifters from the SAS and Irish Marines. An Israeli Oketz officer. And a team of former USAF pilots and pararescue jumpers whose humanity doesn’t keep them from the fight. All corralled by Mother Goose, who commands the undercover group with steel-toed combat boots and cold beer.
Silver James likes walks on the wild side and coffee. Okay. She LOVES coffee. Warning: Her Muse, Iffy, runs with scissors. Now retired from the real world, she lives in Oklahoma and spends her days writing with the assistance of her two Newfoundland dogs, the cat who rules them all, and the myriad characters living in her imagination. She writes dark paranormal thrillers, time travel romance, and sexy contemporary romance. If you want to know more about Silver or her books, visit her at www.silverjames.com
Enjoyable but too short. Really hurt my heart reading the beginning but overall this just wound up too fast with no real relationship building between Duke and Cory. They meet three times, two of those is stressful situations and it is insta love. Though it is wonderful to get this new team up and running with Mother in charge, I hated the loss of life at the beginning. Losing half of his special seal team and being left blind was terrible for Duke. Being betrayed by their own people in power is not good. Not sure what to make of Cory, she was a bit too naive to once again go into a possibly dangerous situation without proper research. Ends too abruptly so I am assuming the story will continue on in future books. Read the beginning of this series years ago, picking it up again as there are more books and it is available in KU.
As such a huge fan of the Wolves, I admit, i was curious about the SEALS. I love the continuation of the story so to speak. Small crossovers are good. Action packed beginning to end!! Never a disappointment when it comes to the Wolves and now the SEALS. Still waiting to come across some of the other books....
Another new series by this author which is full of action and suspense about a Seal Team on assignment in Africa. The Team comes across an American doctor who was kidnapped. An intense adventure begins as they are unexpectedly attacked and most of the Team killed.
Great edge of your seat action, ultimate betrayals, fabulous characters and steamy sizzle, what more could you ask for? The only downside...there doesn't seem to be any other books in the series. With the characters Silver James introduced in Double Cross were ones I really wanted to get to know better.
These guys got the shaft just like the Wolves. Now we know what happened to Kin, at least he made it out. Sure hope Mother is able to settle the score, not only for the SEALs but maybe for the Wolves too.
I read all three series (12) books in record time!!! Love the way you moved me from the 69th to nightriders and the thread that connected the two, and omg the SEALs and there is Mac and Boomer again!!!!! Please tell me there is more coming, the guys and the sassy in your face women they mate is so awesome!! Oh in case you missed it I'm a big fan....
I've been a fan of Silver James since her very first book was published. I love her wolf shifter books and was excited for her newest spin-off series.
Double Cross is very fast-paced story with lots of curve balls thrown around. I absolutely loved both Duke and Cory and I loved they kept getting thrown together. They are both such strong characters and even in a life or death situation, I found myself laughing a bit as they picked on each other.
Seriously awesome chemistry between Duke and Cory as well, even though neither was looking for a romance. In fact, if you aren't a fan of steamy, hot books, you will need to skip over some pages as you read. I found myself thrown a few times not seeing where Ms. James was taking the characters and absolutely loved that she kept me guessing. There are so many rich characters in this series and I'm excited to see each of the team members get their stories.
I highly recommend Double Cross to any reader who loves shifters, action and adventure, and super steamy, sexy times. Double Cross was a great start to a new series and I can't wait to see where Ms. James takes us next.
OMG, this book rocked so hard. I loved the way it unfolded from Africa to America to Venezuela. I loved the way the characters were developed. I love the romance between Duke and Cory - even when they were totally at odds with each other. I especially enjoyed the set up for even more stories in this universe. More stories from Silver are always good. =o)
Warning, though - the sex is spicy in this one and might offend some of the more tender sensibilities. If you're not a fan of spice, skip past the sexy parts to get back to the action. It's worth it. Trust me. The story is awesome and the action is exciting - even if the sex might scald your cheeks a little.
I wasn't sure I was going to like this book after I started it. I went in expecting the story to be one way, yet it turned completely around. Turns out, I love how it turned! The mixture of characters in the story with all their differences make for an awesome read and tons of upcoming fun in story lines. Duke and Cory steam up the pages with their interaction and I did love the ending. I can't wait to see who's next in line and perhaps see a little more of Duke and Cory in the next book!
I got the chance to beta this book, but it was so amazing to read the spin-off from Silver James' Wolves books. And the Wolves make an appearance in this tale because someone was trying to kill of the SEALs. Ms. James writes terrific action adventure romance and romantic suspense. I wasn't disappointed with this new direction and can't wait to read more from the Hard Target series. :)
Silver James wrote the Moonstruck Series then came the Hard Target. I'm anxious to see when she's bringing out book two in this series. The action rocks and the romance is hot. I'm hooked and I think that you will find her books inspiring and enjoyable. Come on Silver we want Hard Target book 2.
Interesting plot. What starts as a military based romance slides to include science- fiction with all kinds of shape shifters and more. This last portion I could have done without but the original plot setting I did like. Part of a series I'm sure.
Atlantis seal team is betrayed and half the crew killed in a set up by their own superiors. the remainder end up in a very special mercenary group..a white hat group.
