Tales from the Paranormal Plantation #1

Gertie's Paranormal Plantation

Rate this book
A Laugh Till It Hurts Literal Leigh Romance Diaries Spin-off
Everyone’s favorite witch, Gertie O’Leary, is back! And she has a story of her own to tell.
“One thing I’ve learned about running a shelter for paranormal creatures, you can’t afford to let your guard down. It all started when I welcomed an enchanting new guest to my plantation. Strange things started to happen. Well, more strange than usual. I was caught off guard by some conflicting feelings and it spurred me on to get Brad, the love of my life, committed. To moving in with me, that is. In any case, I was willing to do whatever it took: love spells, black magic, and something so naughty I’d rather not mention it here. Nothing worked out quite the way I planned and I ended up having to go to hell and back just to save my own self! If it wasn’t for Marie Laveau and the rest of my friends, I wouldn’t be able to share this tale with you in my memoir, Gertie’s Paranormal Plantation.”

Unfortunately, the narrator's voice / accent made it difficult for me to understand everything. I needed to focus to not lose anything but after a while I kind of lost interest and I might have lost a couple of things along the way.

After reading Nocturne Falls' series which I love, I thought cozy mysteries might be a new genre I enjoy. However, while this was nice enough I know I'll forget it easily. Apparently, this is a spin-off from another series and I feel like if I had read it, I would have known more about our FMC's story. She seemed very naive. She wanted her boyfriend to move where she is because she's tired of long distance but then a spell goes wrong. I didn't really care if the couple ended up together or not.

>Also, why is there a cat on the cover when it should be a goat?

An adorable book! Although you don’t have to read the series from which this is a spin-off I think it would be more enjoyable if you read them first. Nevertheless this book is a lot of fun with hilarious characters. 😊

This book wasn't for me at all. First, the idea is amazing, but second, I dislike stupid, and our heroine is To Stupid to live. Naive is one thing, but while in someways, Gertie is naive, having only been unthawed for two years after being responsible for sinking the Titanic, she also is stupid, irresponsible, and not very likable at all. The story veers without reason, it's like watching a really bad SNL on a loop. Now I won't lie I did find some humor, but for me, it was just not enough. I found myself face palming, or head meets desk more often than I found myself laughing with her, I laughed at her, which is never good.
Having said all that I did bumped it up from one star to two because of two reasons, it's a short listen only 4 hours, and two, Hollie Jackson as the reader does an excellent job, from male voices, too accents, she is a brilliant reader.
Just an FYI if you plan on listening to this book, please be advised sex is mentioned a lot, from normal sex to Oral sex. Do not Listen around anyone under 18 or who is easily offended by sex of any kind.

REVIEW

Gertie you know the witch from the Leigh series. She has her own story to tell.
Gertie has been dating Brad the fireman for quite some time now but she hates that they are so far apart from each other and decides to help Brad decide to move in with her on the plantation. But many things take place that could spell doom for the happy couple.

We have witches, dragon, humans, and some surprising new creatures in this story. And if you have ever read any of the Leigh books and busted a gut laughing. Gertie will give you that ten fold. Melanie James has outdone herself on this new story. Can't wait to read more about Gertie and her Plantation.

Gertie finally gets her keeper.....er partner

This book is so funny you are going to laugh until you cry. Gertie is so sweet and innocent and too naive for her own good. Especially when her enabler is not much better, just full of knowledge about today’s world. It’s a good thing Brad is in her life, if only she can get him to stay. But first she has to get through some hilarious situations and past the snarkiness her friends are throwing around. I don’t know what is going to happen next on the plantation, but I can’t wait to read all about it.

You've got to be kidding

I only made it to page 38. This reads like a naive character out of a children's book became a witch. Really? I would be embarrassed if I was the author of this book.

More sex than story. Humorous at times, but not to my taste.

Gertie was blessed to be given a second chance. She's even got herself a nice setup. She has everything she could possibly want and need, but there's something missing. She wants her Brad to live with her. If she could just get that, she'd have everything she could possibly want. Choosing the Gertie way to make this happen, chaos is inevitable. Can she clear the mistakes and figure things out or will she be forced to face the consequences?

I loved this book. It's a spinoff of the Literal Leigh series. I adored that series too. Gertie was one of my favorite characters and it was so great to see her with a little story of her own. I loved Leigh's character, but it was rather nice to see her out of the spotlight for just a little bit.

The narrator who told this story was great! She did great with the Literal Leigh series as well! She has a way of capturing all of the characters' personalities and giving them their own flavor and flair. I love it! I will have to find other audio books she's done and listen to them as well!

Yes, I fully recommend this book. I also recommend any Melanie James books you can get your hand on. This author is witty and charming. She adds just enough heat to make you shiver, but not too much to make you wonder if the book is a porno gone wrong. I've read several of her books and I can honestly say I'm a huge fan. Just a warning, most of her books are for mature audiences. Another warning, be prepared to become addicted with her books!

This book has a huge issue. The main character is supposed to be the naïve, but she comes off as an idiot. She is a witch that has been given a second chance but her lack knowledge of common things is very off since she has been back for over two years. There were some very common things she should know that were instead used to try and create humor, but it just made Gertie look like an idiot. I didn’t like it all. It kept happening so much it just got to be annoying.

I’m not sure what the plot of the book was supposed to be either. I think it had something to do with her love life and spell gone wrong, but I couldn’t keep up. I felt no chemistry between her and Brad and couldn’t figure out how I was supposed to accept them as a couple who were meant for each other. She had way more chemistry with the satyr.

The narrator was alright and handle the accents ok but I think this book just isn’t for me.

I listened to the audiobook and I struggled with the narrator, especially when she used Gertie’s voice. Gertie’s voice was accented and when she used that particular voice, it was spoken at a faster speed then the rest. There wasn’t a speed I was comfortable using. If I used. Slower pace then the rest was too slow compared to Gertie’s voice. The other voices used were fine and I didn’t have any trouble following along. This would have probably been more enjoyable reading.
The storyline was interesting..it’s a paranormal and Gertie the main character tends to be a bit on the dense side and so her friends help her along and at times it was funny. It had a bit of sex content so I would recommend this book to mature readers.

Cover/Title: The cover & title are as fun as the book itself. Paranormal doesn't even begin to explain her plantation.

Characters: This is an interesting bunch of characters. They are funny, lovable and downright crazy but it works.

Plot: Gertie wants to move her relationship with her boyfriend, Brad, forward. She is tired of the long distance relationship. She decides to help the relationship out with a tiny little spell. Sometimes, the best of intentions can lead us down a different path than we expect.

Overall: I enjoyed this fun story. If you are looking for a fun and easy read, then this will definitely do the trick. I will probably read more of this series at some point.

Funny fast read....

This is a great lazy day read. It's light on sexual encounters, but high on comedy. If the quirky situations and misunderstandings of the main character don't get you laughing I don't know what will. I plan on checking out the next in this series, and I defiantly recommend it for a fun witch read.

It reminds me some of Daryanda Jones 1st grave series.... which is one of the few books I've rated a 5 stars....

Gertie 's tailored surprise

Witch Trouble is nothing new when the witch in trubble is a naive apprentice named Gertie .Who knew a poem could cause so much chaos and that was only the start, next is a botched Norse spell now those you really should stay away from, but Gertie's chosen family of friends can be counted on to pull together to save the day or evening. Time to take a read on the witchy side.

Cute and silly story about Gertie the witch that was thawed out after being frozen in the 1850s that has a plantation with supernatural creatures for witches and doesn't understand many slang references and is very naive. The crazy cast of characters are trying to save Gertie from her spell that she cast that went wrong. Fun read, all of the characters are from her other books.

Fab!

Loving the spin off series 💖💖

Gertie, a woman frozen in time and then released on an unsuspecting world 😂😂😂👍

This book got me side eye several times from the hubster 😂😂😂😂

My lol moments were, well, a LOT.

Brill characters, most we met in Leigh's books.

I can't wait to see what a Dragon and a Nessie produce 😍😍😍😍😁😁

This tongue in cheek, paranormal romance had me laughing so hard. Not even a pandemic, world crisis, and marital issues could keep me from laughing until I cried. Raunchy, hysterical, and filled with puns, this is a book a highly recommend

Cute and Spicy

I thought the premise of a witch frozen and then thawed was an interesting one. I feel like we kinda got thrown into the middle of things with little backstory. I would have preferred a bit less spicy, but that’s my personal preference.
