I have a love-hate relationship with gardening. I love when everything's in bloom, obviously, as well as the compliments I get from neighbors, but I feel a lot of anxiety about whether I'm doing things right, and I invariably get started too late in the spring for the best results. Beth's book will be a lifesaver this year. The tone is practical, friendly and accessible; I felt her confidence in me every step of the way. She guides you through the seasons with a list of tasks you can do each month, with plenty of tips to manage our variable weather here in the Midwest. I also liked that she's very thoughtful about earth-friendly practices, which are important to me. The book is just the right size (not too big, not too small) and full of bright photos that make you want to dive in. The text is well organized, with lots of subheads and illustrations, so it's easy to scan a page and find exactly what you're looking for. And while the content is perfect for a beginner, there's enough substance so there's literally room for me to grow as a gardener. Highly recommended.
