Well...lets see...that art is so ugly, even my wife commented while she flipped through the pages. The only exception is when the writer takes over artist duties on one issue. I liked the plot here more, since I felt like the Volume 1 issue was just a clusterfuck. Here we get an explanation of the Demonic Spirit Robbie is possessed by, and clarification of how different he is from previous Spirits of Venegange.
Oh and the best way to do that? Have the original Rider himself show up...yup, Johnny Blaze! Woot woot!! It's not a good sign to have to bring in the original to help boost ratings, but it works for me since I love me some Johnny.
The bad guy is stupid, as is most of the stuff of his story, but this book thrives on building the Reyes family. Robbie and his brother go through some rough times, and it's only their bond that saves Gabe...barf yes, but OK.
Honestly, once the identity of the Spirit was revealed and explained, it made way more sense, and explained the situation. In the end, they decided to go all Dexter, which makes sense, but isn't totally original. I hope they get a new artist if they move forward, but it seems like this was it for now...
3.5 stars. So Dr. Zabos has now perfected his pill that gives people super strength, Robbie’s little brother needs new medicine that Robbie is doing races to raise the money and Eli, the spirit that merged with Robbie and gave him his powers, is trying to take over completely. Man, Robbie has his hands full. Another solid entry. However, I really wish Tradd Moore was able to do the artwork through this volume as well.
I know, how could I? All the top reviewers shit on this volume. HOW CAN YOU DO THIS!?
Because I found this volume nearly as fun as the first. Something that is missing from a lot of comics is the fun and heart. They're either overdramatic, slow paced, or "epic" in the sense everything is going to come down to a big brawl of the gods. I like stories like this that don't take itself seriously and have fun.
The biggest moments of this volume are Ghost Rider vs New Ghost Rider and learning more about Eli. His past is a neat twist and I enjoyed learning how it contacts to Robbie. I also really love the relationship between the brothers, it feels real, and heartfelt, and it's enjoyable to see.
Now the art. Some seem to hate this volume's art, while I didn't. Yes, it's very cartoony and over the top but it's still fun. That is until the last two issues, which look lazy and half assed. I'm sure it's because they were rushing to complete it but man oh man this art at the end felt so damn weak compared to the entire series and sad the way it left off.
Which also left me mad because it felt like we got the origins out of the way, let's do something even better, but we never will. Because everyone hates this series. So to that I say FUCK YOU ALL. Just kidding...but I do enjoy this series a lot and will miss it.
Reyes is a thoroughly unlikable character. The creative team seem to know little to nothing of Ghost Rider canon/mythos. The artwork is appalling. When the writing is on the wall, the team stop caring about the piece altogether and it just goes mental.
On the plus side, it's made "The Hammer Lane" look good, by comparison.
A semi-disappointment. Two-thirds of the book concludes the initial arc. Scott's narration and ultra-caryoonish drawings are so hyper that they become oppressive. It's like 500 volts when 220 would suffice. At least it has the merit of ending properly. Then comes the conclusion of the series in two ultra-rushed issues whose coherence deteriorates with each page. It is also rather poorly drawn by the author himself.
Robbie is an original enough choice for a new Ghost Rider, but a little too one-dimensional to really carry the story. The rest of the cast is transparent, and the cliché of the disabled little brother is overused, with a little brother who is so irritating that you want to push him down the stairs. And I'm not even talking about the wannabe girlfriend who pops up out of nowhere. The twist concerning Eli is acceptable, if a bit far-fetched, and the association with Robbie could have developed into slightly more interesting story arcs.
I liked it! This serie was great! It was not something supeeeeeer amazing. But for the type of book this is a great book!
Try this series! Its collected in just 2 volumes (12 issues).
In my opinion its similar to ms.marvel (the new super powers, the teenager life, multicultural cast, coming of age type of story, struggle with super powers and real life problems....).
What a turdfest. To believe I genuinely enjoyed volume one. How quickly things went to hell. The art was horrible and paired with hurried, sloppy and disjointed writing. The last two issues might be two of the worst that I've ever read.
Maybe a slight drop off because Tradd Moore is no longer doing the art, and he just fit perfectly. But the story is still interesting. It's nice to see a new take on Ghost Rider.
W końcu to braterska miłość.
Postać opiekunki Gabe'a i jednocześnie pretendentki do miana dziewczyny Robbiego – zmarnowana.
Obym go jeszcze zobaczył.
WHY COULDNT THE LAST TWO ISSUES IN THIS BE LIKE THE REST OF THIS BOOK???
The artwork in the first storyline was even worse than in Vol. 1, it was weird, and it was hard to follow what was going on through certain action scenes and the storyline was only kind of better, the only thing worthwhile is the appearance of Johnny Blaze!Ghost Rider. The second storyline had much better artwork and better writing and we get to know more about Robbie Reyes' background and Eli Morrow's. Its a shame that this series got cancelled just as things were starting to get better.
Overall, the first storyline you have to power through, because the last one is great, especially the ending. Also, where can I get more Robbie Reyes!Ghost Rider stories?
Robbie Reyes is still working on the great power/great responsibility concept. As the book opens, he's useing his new powers to win street races to provide for himself and his brother. Soon, we find out more about who Eli the ghost is. Mr. Hyde is still conducting experiments on local hoodlums. And Johnny Blaze shows up.
The art is a mixed bag. The issues by Daimon Scott are stylish but not great on the storytelling. The other artists are just boring.
Robbie is a good flawed character. He wants to do right by his brother but he's also teenager and doesn't always make the best decision. The stakes keep escalating. I don't love all the directions the story went, but I liked this overall.
I liked this one about the same as the first volume, but for different reasons. This volume turned more towards a horror book rather than a superhero, but it ended up about the same. I preferred the interaction between Robbie and his brother Gabe more in the first volume. I did like the twist in this volume , and the ending left some areas to be explored that I don't think were ever followed up on.
The art ranged from okay to not good. At times it's hard to tell what's happening, and at other times too cartoony. Sometimes both once, even.
Overall this version of Ghost rider was okay, but just okay. I think there was untapped potential, but the problem was it remains untapped.
Always liked the look of the character- I even enjoyed the nic cage movies- and this is a great new version. I like the race/class issues presented. Not sure I like the dark story of the dark soul inside but it works. The final story fleshed it out for me. Always enjoy the Jekyll and Hyde story lines and the antagonist is no exception. (more pills like DD though) liked the weapons variety and car-as-weapon. The gage as demon was a neat twist; hobo with an AK was also funny. I can't rave about the artwork, seems a little mangaish and some of the action splash panels are hard to follow. 3* as it was still a good read, lots of development for the gang bangers.
I really liked this story! It's a very interesting take to reinvigorate Ghost Rider! It was awesome, action packed, and had some good down to Earth moments. I have two gripes with it though.
The first is the fact that the person possessing Robbie is a Satanist mass murder. As a Satanist myself that just really ticks me off because Satanist don't actually believe in the existence of Satan and aren't serial killers.
The second is the art work during the action sequences. It's VERY confusion! I can't tell what's really going on for most of it!
Other than that, good story! Can't wait to read the rest!
Felipe Smith's run on the new Ghost Rider starts to really ramp up just as it ends. There is a really interesting Firestorm-esque take on Robbie and Eli's relationship and its good. Robbie's relationship with his brother is still the driving force of the book and its nice to see. We also get a nice cameo from a more veteran Ghost Rider that made sense. The art by Damion Scott was better than the first volume but still over-stylized at times. Overall, intriguing actions with some serious ramifications with some artwork that hurts at times.
I guess this ended about the only way it could, but that doesn't mean I had to like it. I can't quite put my finger on what it was that didn't resonate with me about this series. The story in this and volume one were pretty solid. I just read a bunch of the Ghost Rider classic and modern titles with Johnny and honestly maybe that's part of my problem. I like Johnny and am not sure that I'm a fan of Eli/Robbie. On a separate note, sometimes the art was distracting for me.
Something is wrong with the spirit, he doesn't like Robbie caring for his brother. All he wants is death. Luckily a Ghostrider turns up.
This adds a lot more back story and character to the spirit. After this book you will realise how truly evil Eli is. It's a decent story about the fight for control. A very good read.
the plot is still good and has some very tense and cool developments, so thankfully it is consistent with the quality of the first volume, however the change in the art was a bit jarring at first, but I got used to it relatively quickly and by the end, I thought it was a very good art style which fitted the book quite well (even if I still preferred the art from the last volume)
Sometimes the exaggerated art rubbed me the wrong way, but it helped add to the chaos of it all. Robbie Reyes is a pretty dope Ghost Rider. I dig the car, the look, and now his weird backstory. I think he'll fit right in with the other Riders.
Another fun ride with the all-new Ghost Rider. And there's even an appearance by Johnny Blaze to liven things up even more. Very enjoyable, good read and wonderful art.
It was really cool to see both of the original Ghost Rider and the new one team up for a bit. And it is kind of cool to see that Robbie does have some differences from the previous Ghost Riders.
