He’s an imprisoned intergalactic supercriminal with amnesia. She’s a doctor sent to help him recall his past crimes so he can stand trial. They have no business falling in love, but fate makes her own business, and rarely listens to reason.

Dr. Evie Carr is a neurologist and psychologist sent to see if her new patient’s memories of his past as the notorious Pella Rin can be unearthed. She doesn’t expect her new, high-profile patient to be a gentle, kind Virilian male who farms in the agricultural bay of the ship he’s imprisoned in. Working with Jarran every day, she ignores the growing forbidden attraction simmering between them. When he begins to remember snippets of his past, Evie learns that the story of Pella Rin is far more complicated than that of a man who turned evil.

Jarran Bando can barely form words when he meets Evie. He is happy and at peace tending the acres of crops, but seeing her is like pure sunlight cutting through fog. Soon, she is the brightest part of his day. Even though he knows his love for her will always be one-sided, he works hard to speak better and remember what he can of his past. But it comes at a cost. As memories seep back, he’s devastated to learn the atrocities committed by this past version of him. He doesn’t remember being Pella Rin, but begins to understand that the villain still lies beneath the surface of his mind.

When the “Sifters,” the criminal group he used to lead, return for him, Jarran must fight not only for Evie’s life and safety, but also for control of his own mind. For just as Jarran is learning who he is, Pella Rin is fighting to regain control of the empire that terrorized the galaxy.

This is Book 6 of the Virilian Mail Order Mates series (finally). It can be read alone with no cliffhangers and no cheating. I write what I love to read, so there is always consent and always a happy ending.

One word.

Jarran.

Yes, yes that's the word. Because my god, Ella Blake has blown me away once again. I'm genuinely honest when I say that she is the first author I've given two consecutive 5-star ratings to, and this just solidifies her as my top favorite author! There are so many things to talk about in this book and I know I could go on for days!

Okay, but let me take a step back. JARRAN is the 6th and final book in Ella Blake's VIRILIAN MAIL ORDER MATES series, which pains me to say because I want to explore so much more of Virilian culture! Our protagonist is Dr. Evie Carr, a neurologist and psychologist, and Jarran, a former intergalactic crime boss named Pella Rin, who has no memory of his heinous deeds. Evie is ordered by the Baylen species, which is holding Jarran, to try and get Jarran to recall his work as Pella Rin to save the women he infused with a special drug to make them essentially robotic and obedient.

I have no notes about Evie and Jarren. These two stole my heart because of their dynamic, their attraction to each other, and quite frankly, their character development was incredible. Jarran in particular; I fell in love with how Blake wrote this loveable man who just wanted to tend to his garden and love Evie. His PTSD was portrayed so vividly and I felt myself growing panicked with him. Honestly, I wish those chips that regulate emotion were real! I'd love to have one in my neck.

Evie was supportive of Jarran and his innocence, and I liked how real it felt when she would take care of Jarren during his panic episodes. Blake crafted an incredible backstory for Jarran and while I was reading and being given information, I didn't once stop to think that a part of his past didn't make sense. I kind of wish we knew more about Evie, though, and I had hoped that the scene where Jarran asks Evie about her past hadn't been a fade-to-black scene.

I have to keep talking about Jarran, because this man just needed a hug! Everything that Xill (or Xilla, I forget) Rin did to him was so horrible and I'm so glad Jarran and Toran reunited and made-up. Their love was palpable, and when Toran initially rejected Jarran's apology, I was devastated! So when he showed up later I literally pushed my Kindle and cheered.

I think my only...maybe not issue, but something I noticed, was that there were a lot of similes. A couple of times, it's fine, but each description had a simile to compare the physical action or feeling to an abstract concept, and it pulled me away from the story a couple of times.

That being said, I commend Blake's storytelling and worldbuilding once again. She managed to describe the setting of the Baylen shuttle, of the planets, and even of the battles without making the scenes feel too cluttered. I was struck by how I was able to envision the garden Jarren tended to, then where the closet that he and Evie hid in was, and even the way he protected Evie from Durik's men and recalled how he used to hold his weapons. I'm saving this book to take notes, because this is incredible worldbuilding! Crafted in such a way that each book can be read as a standalone, but all the books connect in a way to make a larger world.

Overall, I'm stolen. My heart belongs to Ella Blake's books and I'm obsessed. I encourage everyone to read this series!

Ok seriously so much happens in 200-ish pages. As soon as you think alright I got a handle on what’s happening, and then blam plot twist.

Evie gets recruited for a top secret mission, her research deals with unlocking lost memories due to accidents.

Jarran is an alien with memory problems. And many secrets from his previous lives might come undone.

Key points in no particular order:
- research scientist
- neural doctor
- amnesia
- tyrannical gang leader
- imprisonment
- mates
- alien MMC
- human FMC
- different alien scientists and guards
- yearning
- mental manipulation
- old allegiances are tested
- forced proximity
- redemption
- family
- spicy 3/5

This is the first Virilian Mail Order Mates book I have read. It is so good I now have to go get the rest, though it stands on it's own. Jarran is so sweet and so gentle it's hard to believe he was ever evil...or was he? And Evie is strong, smart, and compassionate. There is edge of your seat action. The world building and story telling is outstanding, though, to me, it's the characters that really shine. I loved the ending, it felt complete and satisfying. I highly recommend it. Now I need to go get the rest of the books in the series 😁.

This is another fab addition to the series and it was a page turner for me. Having a supervillain with amnesia was an interesting premise and I was so there for the reading ride ;) When we meet Jarran, he's beyond sweet and very gentle. A farmer. And such a contrast to his past self. Dr. Evie is a neurologist there to work with him to find those missing memories... Expect to get caught up in this engaging read filled with action, danger, emotions, healing and hot romance. I really enjoyed how this one unfolded, and especially the ending. Definitely recommend :D

ARC Review

This is my first time reading Ella Blake, and although this is book 6 in the series I read it as a standalone.

I thought this was a really good engaging story. Jarran has a sordid past, but after suffering from amnesia, we get to see his true colours as a quiet, caring farmer. Dr Evie is brought in to help him regain his memories, but finds herself falling for this gentle man. I enjoyed this book and I’m definitely interested in going back and reading the rest of the series.

Jarran by Ella Blake is book 6 of the Virilian Mail Order Mates. Dr Evie is a female human neurologist studying a Virilian who was made into an evil, murderous villian until a dose of a drug rendered him incapacitated. Now he loves to farm and remembers nothing of any of his former lives. Working together, he begins to heal, but will he come out the gentle farmer or the maniacal villain?

This is the first book in there series I've had the pleasure of reading. Only thing in disappointed with is, that I have not read the rest of the series sooner! This book was extremely good. I didn't put it down until I finished. I've already started to go back and I'm reading book one! I really enjoyed this book.
