Aventine Manor holds far more secrets than even the ghosts who call it home are aware of. Still all kinds of sweet and fun and creative. This is the first in this serial series that ends in a cliffhanger, though. Not as happy with that. All previous installments have a resolution to the immediate conflict while the overall problem is yet to be defeated.

All the love for Mercury Raine: Written in Red. I absolutely love this series! Each book reminds me of what it must have been like during Dickens’ lifetime, when readers anticipated each new periodical release. Sarah M. Eden positively teases us with each story revealing a little bit more about Mercury & his mysterious past. After the last book left on a cliffhanger, I couldn’t wait to read this latest installment, & now I’m dying for the next book in the series!
In this story, Mercury & Tacey are preparing for attacks from the mysterious, vindictive Forever Flame, a powerful ghost who knows about Mercury’s past & is willing to do anything to capture him. With several bounty hunters dispatched to Aventine Manor to capture him, Mercury reveals some of the manor’s secrets including hidden underground rooms with magical properties & secret passageways. Wow! This story kept me eagerly turning the pages. I absolutely love all of Mercury’s ghosts, especially little Baby Blue who has my heart. As more & more pieces of the puzzle are revealed about Mercury, my curiosity increases. I enjoyed gleaning each new clue about his childhood & his reasons for being in the orphanage. I also loved seeing his & Tacey’s relationship blossom into more. I’ve been longing for a romance between them & was on pins & needles anticipating their first kiss!
The atmosphere of the book is deliciously gothic & I loved all the hidden passages, secret rooms, & concealed safe. Just like the other books, this story ends on an exciting, heart-wrenching cliffhanger, & now I’m desperate to find out what happens next. So excited for the next installment!

The stakes have never been higher and Mercury is determined to protect Tacey and his ghosts, but the danger is escalating, and I'm wondering if their preparations will be enough.
One of my favorite things about Written in Red is that the readers aren't the only ones being surprised by Aventine Manor. Even Mercury's ghosts don't know all the secrets this house holds! Secret passageways, hidden rooms, forgotten pieces of Mercury's past…every discovery left me wanting to know more. Speaking of Mercury's past—he's beginning to remember things from his childhood that he'd forgotten. Which has left me with a million questions. Why did he forget? How do the ghosts know things about him that even he doesn't remember? And what is the reason behind all of this?! I NEED ANSWERS! After everything that has happened in this series, I am completely invested in finding out how it all ends!
I'm so invested in this story that when my pre-ordered copy appeared on my Kindle, I immediately abandoned my current read to dive into it. And apparently sleep was optional because I did not put it down until I finished it. 😂 Now I'm impatiently waiting for the final installment! Thankfully, it releases soon, so I won't have to suffer too long. I would absolutely love to reread this entire series back-to-back—or listen to the audiobooks, which I've heard are fantastic.

Wow the ending was 🤯 seriously I don’t know how I’m going to wait for the next installment 😣 I love me some ghosts and this series is just plain fun! This novella is the 5th installment in a fantastically fun series. It’s inspired by the Penny Dreadfuls… so it’s a quick release novella series where we will get shorter installments close together & the entire series will released in a period of a year. Set in Victorian England where ghosts are all the rage. Mercury Raine is the most sought after ghost broker in all the kingdom, with more ghosts than anyone knows and more secrets than one person should have. And those secrets are coming to haunt him. The last installment Mercury was in London and uncovered more of the mystery but now they are headed back home to Avertine. Unfortunately those who are after Mercury won’t stop & the battle is coming to their doorstep. But there is more to Avertine than meets the eye & things get more dangerous. I don’t want to say too much about this one because I don’t want to spoil anything but you just have to read this series. It’s a unique world full of interesting ghosts, intrigue, a bit of mystery, a slow burn romance & I can’t wait for the next installment. I can’t recommend this series enough but you definitely need to start at the beginning. Heads up for a major cliffhanger!

This series just gets more intriguing with each one. You wonder if a story can be complete in such a short number of pages, but each Mercury Raine volume PACKS a punch and just gets better and better.
I loved the special moments between Tacey and Mercury. Especially one scene in particular.
There were a few gasping moments and surprises, though I lowkey predicted one part.
If you are looking for a series to binge this Halloween, Mercury Raine books are each under 150 pages and so easy to get sucked in.
I highly recommend this 5th installment in the Mercury Raine series. And look forward to the last one.

Mercury Raine book 5 is so soooooo good! I could not put this story down. There are some massive secrets revealed, and I loved every moment of discovering them!
This story is dangerous, suspenseful, exciting, and those revelations had me gasping out loud!!!
I love Aventine Manor. It felt like a character all on its own! I love the ghosts, and I love Mercury. He is such an intriguing and wonderful character. Him and Tacey are just the sweetest and I adore their story.
I am dying for book 6. That cliffhanger!!!! I loved every single second of reading this story! I have enjoined reading this series so sooo much and I cannot wait to see how everything comes together in the end!

This Mercury Raine book left me wanting more! It's definitely a cliff-hanger ending. Luckily, the next book comes out very soon. I can't wait to find out what happens!
This book finds Mercury, Tacey, and the ghosts preparing for the war that they know is coming to Aventine Manor. Mercury knows that there will be trouble coming for him and he's preparing to protect the ghosts and Tacey, even if he doesn't make it through the storm.
I love that Mercury is learning more and more about himself and his life before he can remember through the ghosts that are close to him. I can't wait for more to be revealed. I know the final release of this is going to be amazing!
Jake Stormoen does such a good job reading this series. I love the way he does all of the voices, it brings the characters to life and makes them seem so real.
Make sure you listen to these! They are so great!

The Brief: Mercury Raine uses every secret of his manor to protect those he loves from the storm heading his way.
The Debrief: Ok. I need a minute. No. I need the last book! Loved the slow burn. Tacey for the win! Loved the quirky supportive ghosts and how they rally around Mercury’s kindness and leadership. Can we put out the Forever Flame? @sarah_m_eden writes in such a vivid way that I found myself holding my breath as I walked trough every tunnel, hid behind doors, and basked in every Tacey Mercury moment. I’m here for all of it!

Oh my good lanta!! Jake and Sarah are at it again, and they have taken my brain captive. 😂 The world of Mercury Raine is so incredible. The ghosts, the house, the people… you will not be able to stop once your start.
And as always, Jake makes my brain question how one person can truly create sooo many characters and have them each be unique. (How do you keep them all straight?!?!) he is truly talented, and should keep narrating anything humanly possible.

The ending of this one was exciting- I’m sad I have to wait a bit to find out what happens in the last installment. The last few pages definitely left me on a cliffhanger. I’m really curious to see what exactly happens with Mercury and Tacey as well as all of the ghosts.

Mercury Raine’s adventures continue to delight! This novella series is absolutely addictive in the best way.
Though we as readers know only a little about Mercury Raine, it is abundantly clear that Mercury Raine is the sort of person everyone would want as a friend. He’s kind, loyal, and protective. Tacey is likewise the sort of someone I want in my life - kind and resourceful and discerning. Watching Mercury and Tacey’s relationship develop is just so sweet! The ghosts make for a wonderfully varied cast of supporting characters (and also antagonists).
The plot moves quickly without feeling rushed, and has some interesting twists and turns. I am anxiously awaiting the final installment!

This book is the kind of book I always crave: bingeable, unique, mysterious, and compelling. I loved that we got some more tension between Mercury and Tacey, and I also loved exploring Aventine Manor more throughout the book. The book definitely ends on a crazy cliffhanger, and even the revealed title for the next book left me feeling on the edge of my seat!
If you're new to the series, I recommend starting from the beginning! Each installment builds on the next and raises the stakes for Mercury. Overall, an absolutely fantastic series!

As budding wisps of romance emerge, the danger, threats, and suspense builds, giving this an unworldly and uneasy feel, and I devoured it. Sarah M Eden is a master of creating an immersible tale.

Wealth, rank, connections, and having the right ghost. Those are the most important things to be considered as part of THE society in London. The Ton. Having the wrong or unstylish ghost can ruin a person- but there is one who can help. Mercury Raine- Ghost Broker. Ghost trades are his specialty and he is known as being fair, the best, and treating his own ghosts with respect. He is also a runaway orphan having to hide or face a lifetime in prison at best. His many ghosts are considered property of the city and his secret identity has been leaked. They are after him. He must not be caught and his ghosts taken. They will stop at nothing, no one around him is safe.

First. This whole series is amazing and it’s really picking up in intrigue, mystery, and suspense.
Second. Jake IS the characters for this series. It’s a full cast and range and he crushes it every time! Like, how?
There are some narrators that just MAKE the audio, and Jake is one of them. I can’t get over how amazing the audio is.
Third. I tell you what, wow! I am flabbergasted and sputtering. I can’t believe what happened in this book. It’s all been leading up to SOME of what just happened. I finished the audio and jumped right back in because I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss anything! I had even kept the speed at 1.5x! What? Completely entranced!
If you are looking for a unique series by a beloved author, may I suggest this one? Yes there are specters, dastardly plots, and unwanted guests. But you also get a dose of found family, tender care, and the slowest of slow burn romances.
I don’t want to give away too much, but just know it’s unlike anything you’ve read before.

O my goodness! I seriously don’t know how much more I can handle with this series! Written in Red is book FIVE, and somehow I have even MORE questions than I started with! The mystery and suspense are seriously killing me, especially after that ending! Mercury, Tacey, the ghosts, the secrets… I am completely invested in all of it and desperately need to know what is going to happen next!
I’m loving this little novella series more and more with each installment, but Sarah M. Eden is really testing my patience with these cliffhangers ;) ! Oh, my goodness! I have absolutely loved each of these fun and absolutely addictive “ghost” stories, but the ending of this one has left me mouth agape—I cannot wait for the final installment after this book and all it revealed! Mercury and Tacey have returned to Aventine Manor to prepare themselves against those hunting Mercury and his ghosts. I loved the progression of their romance and all the cool things about Aventine that were revealed. Mostly, I was hooked with all that was becoming known through the phantom memories and visitors showing up along with the increased tension and danger. This story completely hooked me and I loved it.
Jake Stormoen rocks as the narrator of this series and I could listen to him narrate these books all day. I highly recommend both the book and the audio version.

Each installment of the Mercury Raine series has been fantastic, and this one does not fail to keep you on your toes and want to continue reading more. From the growing romance between Mercury and Tacey to the mystery surrounding Mercury, this is a story that you will not want to stop reading.

Wow!
I cannot wait for the last book to come out! This series has been incredible and gripping, and this most recent book completely delivered! Sarah Eden has such a wonderful knack for storytelling. Though these books are shorter than the average novel, her characters have so much depth and growth. I'm absolutely invested in Mercury and Tracey and their ghosts. The last book cannot be released soon enough. 😁

Finally
The pace of this series is slow and I still have a hard time connecting to Mercury. The ghosts are great as always and have the most personality. Mercury is warming up but it feels like something is missing. It’s not just vulnerability or confidence though they are in deficit. Maybe it’s the holes in his history.

This might be my favorite one. More action and advance in the story line. This is book #5 but honestly these could all be listened to like one book. They are very short. The narrator is so so so good - switching back and forth between a million different accents with complete ease. Very light and enjoyable

Did Sarah just up the ante? Yes she did! My love for Aventine Manor just multiplied and the slow burn between Mercury and Tacey is heating up. I love how quick these novellas go yet they each pack a punch. Excited to see how they win the day!

I love the strong bond between Mercury, Tacey and their ghosts. They stand together as enemies draw ever nearer. This story brings the danger to their home. Secrets and revelations abound. A page turning read and can't wait for the final conclusion.

Oh sweet mercy I about had a heart attack. In such a short book we get more character development as well as major plot development. Those last few pages are insane! So eager for the final installment. Then I’m going to have to reread all 6 in a row.

absolutely fantastic
I cannot get enough! These just keep getting better and better! I can’t wait for the next installment! Sarah Eden at her best! I love the twist and turns keeping you on your toes, but also the sweet romance and feeling of family.
