He’s a wolf in a kilt. That pretty much says it all…

Pulling off a rescue mission at a remote castle in Scotland should be an easy task for lone wolf Damon Black. He’ll flash some muscle, show a little Alpha power, and do whatever it takes to ease Addie MacShay’s fears. But the woman who throws herself into his arms and cries boyfriend is more intriguing than anticipated. The sexy she-wolf’s got more curves, more tantalizing scent, more of everything he desires.

Addie’s job cataloguing an estate at the Sterling-Wylde Manor is complicated by the ongoing discovery of new wills and the two creepy heirs who won’t leave her alone. But her fake boyfriend turns out to be a far greater threat—not only is he fun and flirtatious, he looks delicious in a kilt. She craves his touch, but with her empathic skills on overdrive, touch is the last thing she needs.

Damon’s fighting his unruly inner beast. Addie’s fighting their incredible sexual pull. They'll both have to lower their guard to make this more than a Highland fling.

Vivian Arend Takhini Shifters bks 01-04

Highland Tigers Defeated

Damon Black was warned by Jim Halcyon, but did he listen? HA! No. 😁 Instead he rides to Addie MacShay's rescue. Even though he's a bit of a goof, I do like this unconventional lone wolf.

What happens at Sterling-Wylde Manor is mysterious, troubling, and full of high jinx - some good, some... strange. Oh, and then there are the idiosyncrasies with Jim's and Addie's wolves, and their hot and playful chemistry. It all combines to create a story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I listened to this as part of the 'Takhini Shifters' collection. The narrator is Tatiana Sokolov, who is a consistently good narrator. I especially love when the Irish & Scottish lilt comes out to play.

I like Vivian Arend's writing and I like paranormal romance. Who doesn't love reading about what you will never be able to experience? I have to say that the premise of the book intrigued me and so I just wanted to read it. Beyond glad this book didn't let me down and so it receives a comfortable 4 stars from me.

Damon and Addie have instant attraction and also cause Damon's wolf to hide himself whenever Addie is near. Damon is sexy, witty, confident, protective, loyal, and charming. He doesn't even think to fight his attraction to Addie but does find his wolf hiding from her troubling. He does whatever he feels is necessary to protect her and is in for a shock when he realizes just how important she is to him.

Addie struggles with intimacy and struggles with fighting off Damon. She desperately wants him but her unique "gift" would make being with Damon intimately quite unpleasant if past experience is to be remembered. When she realizes he doesn't overwhelm her senses with his feelings she is relieved and thrilled because their chemistry is off the charts.

There's a happy ending. Damon and Addie compliment and sooth one another. There's some little twists to keep the story moving, some suspense, and some steamy moments that make you feel the need to fan yourself. The read is pleasant and can easily be tackled within a few hours.

This was a fun and entertaining book to read. Really enjoyed it.

NOTE: Even though this is the second book in the Takhini Shifters series, it can be read without having read the first book Copper King. It works well as a stanalone novel.

Laird Wolf is the second novella in Vivian Arend's Takhini Shifters series and although these characters have made appearances in the Takhini Wolves books these stories are designed to be completely stand alone so it doesn't matter if you've read the previous books or not. For anyone who is familiar with the series this fits into the time line just after Copper King and before Black Gold.

Cataloguing the contents of a remote Scottish castle for the estate's executor should be easy for Addie but things are complimented by the discovery of multiple wills and the fact that she is being hounded incessantly by two of the potential heirs. Feeling creeped out and unsafe Addie calls her best friend for assistance and Lillie sends lone wolf Damon to protect her. Damon has never wanted a mate or a pack, he's always been happy to live his life on the outside, but Addie brings out all his protective instincts and he's not quite sure what to do with his feelings. One things for sure, he won't let the weird cat shifters who are fighting over the castle harm her, but after that anything goes.

I loved Damon when we met him in Copper King so I was really happy to discover he was getting his own story, he's such a fun guy and it was great to get to know him better. Damon has the strength of an alpha but after a traumatic experience when he was a teenager he has never got along very well with his inner wolf, they never really see eye to eye and he fights against his wolf instincts. Both of them are in full agreement over one thing though - the need to keep Addie safe, they are both intrigued by her and neither of them wants to let her go. Addie is a rare omega wolf and her unusual abilities make it very difficult for her to get close to anyone. She is drawn to Damon but worried about letting him close because skin to skin contact will allow her to see his innermost thoughts.

I really enjoyed the romance between these two, the banter between them was great and they make a cute couple. Addie may have asked for assistance but she's still more than capable of standing up for herself, it's just nice to know she has some back up for when she needs it. I loved how strong she is and that she isn't willing to back down when she's set her mind on something. Damon was sweet and protective and they had great chemistry. Although this is a novella and a fairly quick read I never felt that the romance was rushed, we get to see them become friends and get to know each other and it was easy to believe that they actually had a chance of making their relationship work, even without the whole werewolf mating bond going on.

If you're looking for a fun, sexy story then you can't really go wrong with any of the books in this series. Vivian Arend is one of my go to authors because she never fails to give me an enjoyable story that leaves me with a smile on my face.

3.5/5 Stars(RabidReads.com)I started reading the Takhini World books with the Takhini Wolves series, and have already read the first novella in this series, Copper King-which is part of the Takhini Shifter Series. Damon is introduced into that book as a wolf whose best friend is a bear shifter. That story was Jim and Lillie’s story. Lillie’s best friend is Addie, and this is hers and Damon’s story.

Addie has gone to a castle in Scotland to catalog the estate after the elderly owner dies. She’s there with two older, and very strange shifter brothers-both of which want to inherit their father’s estate. Several wills have already been found, and Addie is still looking for more as she does her work. Of course the brothers are not happy with Addie, and are watching her secretly. Damon shows up to keep Addie safe after hearing from Lillie that Addie needs help. They had never met before, but have an immediate attraction. They tell the brothers that he is her boyfriend, so that puts him in her bedroom.

I really liked Addie as a character. She is the product of two Omega wolve’s mating, and that makes her not only empathetic, but when she touches someone, she gets all their feelings. Horrible or good, she gets it all. It’s only gotten this bad recently, and hinders her with her attraction to Damon. I was not as happy with Damon at first. He seems really frivolous in the beginning, sliding down a banister-although a cute scene-not exactly an alpha male thing to do. The more I got into the book though, he gets a bit more serious, so that was better for me. I did enjoy the couples banter, and I liked how serious Damon takes Addie’s empathetic problem. The cook for the estate, Grandmam Susanna, was a surprise and I loved her character. Villains? The two brothers, of course.

At 121 pages, it was longer than most novellas. However, a very big part of the story was nothing but sexual scenes of one kind or another. After awhile, that just seems like filler to me. Of course some of them were necessary to the plot and I didn’t mind those at all, but when sexual scenes take the place of plot, especially in a novella, I do have a bit of a problem. I did like what plot that we are given, however. This author does know how to write a good romance!

This was a really fast read for me, and I mostly enjoyed it, with the exception of what I have mentioned previously. I would recommend this novella to adult paranormal romance fans.

Oo fabulous we get to catch up with the sexy Damon who was so cheeky in the previous book Copper King but this time he's far from home and over the pond in Bonnie Scotland! Yes being the amazing friend that he is Damon has agreed to go help the girl pal of his best friends wife as she's cataloging the belongings of the late Lord but two very strange cats are giving her the heebie jeebies! Constantly feeling watched Abby needs protection and Damon is totally onboard with that! Now if they could just sort out the small matter of which will is genuine maybe Damon could find out why his inner timber wolf has gone quiet and deserted him! There's a very attractive she wolf named Abby who he's happily following around and the more he sees her the more he wants to touch but Abby is no ordinary wolf and something's just seem to be constantly off limits or are they ?
Poor Abby as the daughter of two omega wolves she has a huge problem when it comes to touch and emotions . Now faced with a man that calls to her like no other what is she to do? Pretending to be a couple offers all sorts of exciting possibilities and there are numerous passionate and inventive scenes to enjoy! It's a full on sexy read with a little mystery to solve but it's also very warm and funny at times . Not a straightforward romance but to say too much more would ruin the fun so I will just state I found this book entertaining and I love a happy ending!

Lone Wolf Damon Black is sent on a mission to Scotland to rescue she-wolf Addie MacShay.

Laird Wolf is a fun and entertaining story; a great addition to the Takhini Shifters Series.

I really liked Damon’s character in Copper King (Takhini Shifters #1) and was excited to read his story. Damon is a fun hero. He has a great attitude, for example, at the start of the story, when he arrives in Scotland, the airlines lose his luggage; he is forced to wear borrowed kilts: he embraces the situation and goes with the flow. He has some issues in his past that cause him and his wolf not to get along that adds interest to the story.

I really like Addie. She is incredibly smart. I found her job fascinating. She is also an empath. As a shifter that craves touch, being empathic would not be a great thing. However, it did create some imaginative situations between her and Damon. They develop a fascinating chemistry and relationship.

The plot was very clever, mysterious, and humorous. There were unexpected twists that were well-thought out. I found the scene where the title Laird Wolf came from was pretty amusing. This is a great story for anyone that enjoys funny shape shifter PNR.

The first meeting between Damon and Addie was sure memorable. I liked their chemistry right from the start, loved that they were able to tease each other, yet able to take the time to get to know each other. Damon was great in how he got to know some of the locals, which helped later to figure out which was the real will. I was glad how things ended out there. Loved how Damon and Addie's wolves played a big role in things.

I received an ARC of this book from the author, this does not affect my opinion of this book or the content of my review.

This is the second book in the Takhini Shifters series which is a spin off from the Takhini Wolves series. The first story in this series, Copper King, was one of the earliest things I reviewed. I liked that story a lot, but my reviewing certainly didn’t do it justice, so I hope I can do better this time.

Wolfie in a Kilt, really that says it all, and don’t worry, you find out exactly what (or rather what he doesn’t) have on under that kilt.

On a more serious note, Addie has a photographic memory and an inconvenient quirky legacy from her two Omega parents. When she gets into an uncomfortable situation during her job as an estate cataloger, her best friend (the heroine from Copper King) sends in the calvary. Damon is an unlikely sort of hero, because that is the last thing he ever wants to try to be again, but man does he rock a kilt.

Both of these characters have strong reasons for not wanting to get into a relationship, but the chemistry and personal enjoyment in each other is palpable. And what I really enjoyed with this particular pair, is it WAS NOT an issue of insta-mate. They found out they liked each other, could work together, and grew to love each other, all without their beasts input. That isn’t to say that I don’t enjoy a good insta-mate story, because I do, but that sort of connection just wouldn’t have worked for Addie and Damon.

So, if you think you’d enjoy a story where the heroine doesn’t go all naval gazing over the hero and can stomp him in chess without drooling over him or even interrupting her work day (but really knows how to work the evening, if you know what I mean), a hero who doesn’t get all bent out of shape when he gets stomped in chess by a woman – and knows how to have fun and rock a kilt, and if you didn’t know Highland Tigers are a real thing, then this may just be the perfect book for you.

(BTW, Highland Tigers are totally real, and my life is now complete because I know this. After you read the book check them out.)

A slightly odd but entertaining tale.
Addie is the Highlander in the story, and Damon is actually a New Yorker bred and born. But he does spend a lot of time in the story in a kilt... and ONLY a kilt (nudge nudge wink wink)

Both MCs are lighthearted although Addie does tend to be a bit of a workaholic.
Addie is charged with inventorying a grand castle/house that is being fought over by two unloveable brothers after their uncle died. The house is full of maze-like passages, spy holes, and hidden doors. Possible ghosts and hidden watchers.
In response to Addie's call for backup, Damon is sent by friends of friends. The cover is that he is her boyfriend and he's flirtatious enough to make the most of that. But he harbors pain from a past loss, that has kept him footloose all these years and somewhat estranged from his own wolf...
Yes, they are all shapeshifters as well. He and Addie are wolves and the sinister brothers are highland 'tigers'. Shrug.

I'm still a bit confused about Damon's wolf and the reasons for his odd behavior. It was convenient to the plot though.

There's really not a lot of tension in the story so it's a light and easy read.
I listened to the audiobook. Tatiana Sokolov gives a fine reading.

Safety is good.

If you love shifters and are looking for a quick, sexy read then go no further because this one is the one you are looking for! You have a reluctant hero, who after a little mishap ends up wearing kilts the entire time, doing a favor for a friend and a not so damsel in distress woman, who is more than capable to taking care of herself, but knows the value of having someone watch her back colliding and finding that they may just be more than temporary allies.

I really liked both Damon and Addie. Both were strong and intelligent, I would love to have Addie’s job but would need her eidetic memory, and their bantering back and forth elicited quite a few chuckles and snorts out of me (full fledged laughter would have happened had I not been on a plane while reading) and quite a few moments where I felt the need for a nice cold shower. But what I was impressed with, though I really shouldn’t have been being a fan of the authors, was how well done their stranges to much more relationship was written. Though this is a novella there is no skimping on them getting to know each other and by the end of book there is no doubt that they should be together.

The mystery surrounding who the actual heir to the Sterling-Wylde manor was well crafted and even I hadn’t guessed the outcome before it was revealed. And this being the first paranormal romance of Ms. Arend’s I’ve read I can honestly say that can definitely be read as a standalone without fear of being lost if you haven’t read the first book in this series or the Tahkini Wolves or Granite Lake Wolves series.

The Bottom Line: If you’re looking for a light, quick, fun and well written story this one is for you!

I kinda love Vivian Arend's shifters. They're playful and sexy and they bond like nobody's business when they find the one. Well, unless they don't know the one is the one. Because sometimes that happens.

Just go with it. Why? Five words. Sexy werewolf in a kilt. You really can't go wrong with that mental picture.

So. Damon and Addie. They have some sweet, sweet sexual tension going for them. Unfortunately, Addie's empathic talent means touching is a no-go for her. Kinda. The sexy werewolf in a kilt miiiight manage to change her mind.

Kilts have that effect on women, you know.

Sexy and sweet with the added bonus of a castle chock full of hidden passages. Those are always fun. As are those kilts.

This book was a lot of fun! From the first scene between Damon and Addie until the epilogue, there was a joy that both characters carried that permeated everything they did and all their interactions

Damon has been sent by his best friend to look out for his wife's best friend. Best friends are married bears, and these two are wolves. Damon is a lone wolf alpha, and we learn in the story that Addie is an Omega

It is quite an interesting story with these two, and the circumstances they are in. No great enemies, but a slight mystery, and a pretty fun romp!

Loved Damon and Addy

Alpha wolf Damon Black rushed to Scotland as a favor to his best friend 's mate, to protect her best friend Addy, His flight delayed, his luggage lost, the bike he rented is not the bike he rented, it's raining, a blow out lands him in a dirty pond. The worst of all owners of the manor house she is working at are cats. Snooty cats. The up side is the greeting he gets from Addy.
Addy MacShay has been hired to catalog the estate of the late Lord Sterling -Wylde, while the lawyers try to figure out which of the wills that have been found is the correct one. While Addy is capable of taking care of herself, the late Lord sons are making her uneasy. When the sexy Damon shows up she has no problem letting him be her bodyguard.
Damon and Addy have a strong attraction. She keeps him at arms length. No matter.how hot he looks in a.kilt.
They both have secrets. Damon is haunted by a past event as a teen and has had a disconnect with his wolf since. Strangely his wolf has been in hiding since meeting Addy.
Addy is the daughter of two omega.and her power as she has.gotten older has.become.isolating. Addy is very attracted to Damon. When he seems to be immune to her odd omega power, she takes a chance. In healing his wolf she learns a secret the wolf has been keeping, even from his human half.
A fun fast paced, steamy, best friends of best friends romance. A sweet epilogue to wrap up their story.

No judgment - I read this while I was on vacation. The boyfriend and I went for a long weekend at a cabin in the woods and after finishing one very serious book, I wanted something light and fluffy and sexy, so this was perfect. I generally think the shifter stuff is kind of silly and I'm not even sure how I ended up with this book, but I like a little variety.

Addie is cataloguing the contents of an expansive estate in the Scottish Highlands. The lord of the manor has died and his two sons are sniffing around. One wants to burn the place to the ground, the other wants to turn it into a high end private club. Addie is a wolf shifter, the brothers are also shifters (Highland Tigers, which causes some confusion later on; google them and you'll see why), and there have already been 5 wills presented to the lawyers. Addie is nervous because the sons are watching her very closely and a friend sends in reinforcements in the form of another wolf shifter, Damon. Who is, of course, hot.

So, yeah. Took me an hour or so on a rainy afternoon and I'm not mad about the time I spent. I won't be seeking out anything else in the series, but this was a pleasant read.

Audiobook Review:
Overall – 5
Performance – 5
Story – 5

I have to start by saying I loved listening to the accents that Tatiana used in this audiobook. Being a US gal, I wouldn’t know if the Scottish accent was correct or not but I sure enjoyed listening to it.

We met Damon in Copper King, book one in this series, so I was looking forward to listening to his story (you do NOT need to have read/listened to Copper King to enjoy Laird Wolf). He’s gone to help a friend’s friend and ends up getting more than he bargained for (in a very good way). He and Addie hit it off but her empathic ability makes it difficult for her to get too close to him. I love how it all worked out and how Damon was able to save the castle and use it to help others. Like most of Vivian Arend’s books, this one has some very smexy scenes and I enjoyed listening to it.

A complimentary copy of this audiobook was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author and/or narrator.

Nice, slower burn for shifter

This was a continuation of a series, but could be read as a standalone. The 2 best friends of a couple from a prior book have never met, but the male is sent by his friend's wife to help protect the female when she is in a sketchy situation cataloging all the items in a questionable inheritance situation. Both are wolf shifters, and they dona faux-romance to protect her from the unwanted advances of the 2 brothers squabbling over who will inherit the giant estate in the wilds of Scotland. The faux romance is accompanied by real attraction, but each has some interesting twists that hold them back. She has growing empathic abilities that have made it impossible to be touched for the past year without being flooded with emotions, but it might not be a problem with this hot new wolf in her life? This leads to some nice slow burn encounters, though full burn is definitely achieved & nicely done.

Very entertaining story set in the Scottish Highlands. A very who dunnit' like mystery, with quite a few wills from the deceased Lord of the Manor leaving the magnificent castle in the balance between two greedy heirs and the inhabitants of the castle keep. Secret passages, hidden peepholes, watching eyes, and a big burly wolf Damon. He is sent there by his best friend from the city in NY to watch over his girl's best friend and forced to dress in traditional Scottish kilts given to him to wear by the weird siblings since his luggage was lost by the airline.

But the Kilt works to his and Addie's advantage, it means a lot of sex up against the wall, on the desk, in the library, the garden, and even a few times in the bed sex with Addie who turns out to be his mate!

This story is full of laughs and lots of fun sex in the Scottish Highlands.

Enjoyable read

I enjoyed Damon and Addie. They were a lot of fun and I loved the setting in the Scottish castle with secret passageways and mystery. This story was fun and I really enjoyed and loved the teasing between Addie and Damon. Addie is here for a job, to catalog all the items for the estate but the two potential heirs have moved in and are making Addie uncomfortable with their creepy behavior. In comes Damon, sent by Addie’s best friend for protection and a barrier between her and the heirs. Addie starts them off with pretending to be in a relationship. I loved watching Damon play and tease and bringing more of that side out of Addie while also keeping her safe. This story was cute and entertaining. I really enjoyed the few twists that were here and the way that the story unfolded. It was cute and I really liked it.

He is a funny character between him and his wolf. But it's good he was there as her protector. The name of the book really fit him since how he was dressed. It's strange about the old lady cause I don't understand shifters r never supposed 2 get sickness or anything like humans do but yet 4 sum reason she has a dementia or something like that. Those 2 wirdo's were brothers but completely different and when it says tigers I thought actually tigers not house cats. It was a little confusing at a few spots when it had 2 do with those 2. Overall, it was awesome that she was a omega since they r very rare. They r awesome 2gether.

Hilarious romp in the Scottish Highlands. A "clue" like mystery, with multiple wills from a deceased Lord leaving the disposition of a Magnificent castle in the balance between two greedy heirs and the inhabitants of the castle keep. Secret passages, hidden peepholes, watching eyes, and big burly wolf relegated to dressing in traditional Scottish kilts (the old way, commando). But that makes for easy access and lots of hot up against the wall, on the desk, in the library, the garden, and even a few times in the bed sex!
Great read!

Sweet and easy read with a touch of a mystery. The focus is on the two leading wolf shifters, Addy and Damon. Damon's wolf is a little unruly, and Addy has a gift from her parents that she doesn't really find a gift until Damon comes along.

If you are in the mood for a shifter story little bit of a Scottish twist and a bit of suspense, you might like this. It's a quick read, the romance is sweet, and I loved the parts where what's happening on their shifter side is explained!

Overall, a pleasant time reading this one.

An Alpha loner wolf and an Omega wolf who avoids others touch. What could go wrong?

Addis is doing inventory of an old Scottish castle after the owner dies but his two sons are making her really uncomfortable. Damon is sent to keep her safe by her best friend. There is an instant attraction, but why does Damon avoid it and why is his wolf suddenly hiding from him? What will happen as they become friends and find ways to get intimate with out skin touching? What happens when his wolf finally lets her see all his pain and in doing that she takes some of it for him?

Full of flight full of fun then stops dead no where to run

Damon was all out for fun and frolics never being serious hiding his heart he thought he had lost a long time ago, Addie needed protection and her dear friend had asked Damon to help, no one expected that they had helped them this is a lovely love story with a twist or two though it refers to people in other stories it doesn’t retract from it own story. I recommend this book and it’s fun

This was a cute story I found in the Audible Escape package. I did struggle a bit with not having read the previous book in the series (I think some of the hero's backstory was told there), but not enough to ruin my enjoyment. I loved the setting (a Castle in Scotland) and the main characters. I'm anxious to go back to book 1 now.

At first, couldn't figure out the title. Then, as the story progressed it became clear. Great story line. There's no blood & gore. But then, there's no need when there's a great story.
