Alaska Gold is a Spanish girl, trying to write one true sentence at a time. She believes poetry is the result of coming up with a great idea, only to realize you’re not committed enough to write a whole novel about it. She’s learning it’s okay to live a life no one understands. Most of all, she’s learning to exist.
This book of poetry is sparks of brilliance dotted with honesty and feelings that should only ever be written in verse. Alaska Gold's metaphors for describing certain emotions and heartbreaking circumstances are so accurately and precisely chosen, you'd think they were invented for the sheer purpose of her writing.
Unbelievably relatable and empowering at times.
Favorites are "Early-onset loneliness," "The road back from giving," "Sound of survival," "Example of a better way to speak," "Love and other foreign languages," "La petite mort," "Hi, it's me," "Golden joinery," "Saving us for when we're better," "Learning to love by example," and "Becoming true again."
Wow. After reading this book, I have to admit it left me speechless. Alaska's writing is so beautiful. The poems fit together so perfectly. As the story evolver you can learn and grow along with the them, the order they're structured in is so precise! Among my favourites are "The Astronaut's daughter", "I love you, but leave me alone", "Words to myself and "Breaking myself so we're broken together". I feel like whenever I feel lost or sad again, these words will make me feel less alone. Thank you for sharing your words with everyone Alaska, I can't wait to read more of your words.
Years! I've waited years to read this book, it didn't dissapoint. I'm glad I read it now instead of when I was younger because I understand a little more about myself and love now. Regardless I wholeheartedly recommend this for those who want to start reading poetry, this collection is simple to understand but no less beautiful for it, it paints beautiful imaginery about simple things and others not so simple.
I need you to love me the same way the moon orbits around the earth, without intention to stop.
