They were ancient history . . . Or were they?

Fiona’s very different from the naïve girl who tried to seduce the object of her teenage fantasies five years ago—who, as it happened, was secretly engaged! Noah Wilding is back in her life: divorced, bitter, and just as sexy as ever. And trying to enlist her help stopping the impending marriage of his half-brother to her conniving younger sister.

But that goal gets put on the back burner as Noah starts a campaign of seduction on Fiona—he does owe her, after all, for disappointing her dreams. A romantic week on his private Caribbean island will fix her just fine—and alleviate some of his guilt, too.

Fiona misses the person she used to be. But will fulfilling her wildest sexual fantasies with Noah through hot Caribbean nights restore anything she’s lost?
Probably not. But couldn’t hurt, either. Right? After all, she’s waited for him for a long time . . .

Roberta Pearce’s relationship with romance novels began when she fell into a box of her aunt’s dog-eared treasures that miraculously opened at the most interesting bits. All through post-secondary adventures – Russian Lit: good; torrid love scenes: better – this amour de HEA took her, though it goes without saying that she failed French. One day, she decided to make a useful contribution to society and write HEAs rather than just reading them, and still seeks one for herself in real life.

Winner of 2013 & 2014 NaNoWriMo, Pearce is still waiting for her cheques. Her influences include Fyodor Dostoyevsky [his dreamy side], Douglas Adams, Rupert Brooke, Mary Burchell, and Omar Khayyam. While she currently has no pets, she once had a pair of Siamese fighting fish named Pat and Mike, whose ghosts appear occasionally in her novels. Her imaginary hobbies include climbing Kilimanjaro and enjoying lofty literature. Her real hobbies include drinking copious bottles of wine with good friends while discussing anything that pops to mind.

At the risk of damaging my noir novelist notoriety, I’m going to say I liked FTWW, but not unequivocally. For one thing, the title was too long. And there was too much romance in it. All these people pining for each other, instead of the fjords, like any Norwegian Blue would...

However, I can’t complain about the romance, because the author herself pleaded with me not to read and review her work. She didn’t want me to risk my alpha male reputation (where do women come up with that tripe?) and she thought I’d be bored out of my skull without at least one dead body.

So there’s this girl Fiona, who pines after the bad boy big brother of her best friend. The BBBB spurns her and marries a girl he knocked up, so he’s doing the honourable thing.

When I complained about this incongruity, the author claimed that I was focused too much on verisimilitude. Apparently I’m not much of a bad boy (hey, I always carried condoms so I wouldn’t be forced into a shotgun wedding). Despite the lack of verisimilitude, I read on.

The book starts at the preparations for a wedding between Mara, Fiona’s middle sister (the protagonist is the eldest of three McKenna sisters) and Fiona’s best friend Will, the younger brother of Bad Boy Noah Wilding (sure, put Wild in his last name, why not?).

Meanwhile, Noah is divorced from the bitch he married, because he found out that he was not the child’s biological father, so the passion between Noah and Fiona is rekindled, although they’re both older and wiser (ha-hum).

Mara is an insecure bitch (or is she just bitchy from having saint-like Fiona for an elder sister?) and Noah and Fiona conspire to break up the wedding to prevent Will from Unhappiness Ever After.

Now, I readily admit my unfamiliarity with the romance genre, so I told the author I would just read the book to comment on the technical aspects. Still, despite my many reservations, I was sucked into the story (or was it because of the torrid sex scenes?). Usually I wouldn’t be interested in the happiness of entitled and affluent beautiful people like Fiona or Noah, but they were so relatable I had to read on and know whether the promised HEA would indeed happen or if the wedding ended up in a massive bloodfest with Fiona snapping and going on a spree killing.

I’m sad to say there was no blood spilled or people maimed. While that was disappointing to me, Roberta Pearce’s readers will probably enjoy the ending of FTWW.

I just segued straight into reading Pearce’s second novel, A Bird Without Wings (another bloody long title).

This is a great story about being your true self and knowing who you want in life. Fiona is such a fun character and was relatable in many ways. Nate was sexy and funny. I loved how the middle sister is so much a middle child. The author did really well with developing her characters. The story flowed very well and I really liked how the plot twists were just right. Definitely a book to stretch out on the hammock with.

Really lovely book! Swarms with romance steeped in troubles!

So, Mara is a bitch!
Fiona is uber sweet, which gets her dismissed way too much. Few seem to realise she has spunk!
Will is lovely, and Kay is gorgeous.

So, we have many people all falling in love, but massive obstacles in the way.
And it all happens on a beautiful Caribbean Island.

Great escapism. And very nicely written. The story flows well, and I was hooked!

I would recommend to all with a romantic streak!

This seems to be the debut novel of the writer, and although the story was ok with certain hints of humor, at times I was not sure if I was reading a romance or chick-lit (which I do not like) by the way some of the characters behaved. And I despair with the heroine because I struggled to understand it how she remained so gullible and naive when she was 21 years in the current times...

All in all, the story deserve 3 stars.

On a separate note: I'm glad I did not read this book as an introduction to the writer and instead I have read: The Value of Vulnerability (which I loved it !) and A Bird Without Wings (which I liked a lot) because I think that with every new book the author has cemented her style (which is particularly good in characterization) and will keep me reading whatever she choose to write next, but... I am not so sure this would had happened if I had read this story as the begin.

I've hardly read any romance books, so I wasn't sure if I was going to like this.

It started off fine, and it was funny at times, and the dialogue is great throughout. That's where Pearce really shines, dialogue and character motivation.

But then I got frustrated with not understanding why the guy didn't get with the girl he always wanted to be with.

It's explained at some point, but I just couldn't relate to his reasoning.

Aside from that, I was ultimately caught up in the story and enjoyed the ending.

I also liked it enough to check out the next book by this author, and man, that one was awesome.

I'd only recommend this one to romance readers - maybe females in particular, but the other book, Birds Without Wings, I'd recommend to anyone. It's a romance, but there's a lot more to it than that.

Now I'm really looking forward to another book from this author.

P.S. What's a paragraph?

I hated Mara the moment I met her! I wished that someone would gut-check her by the end of the story. LOL but the entire story itself was good entertainment. I enjoyed reading as Fi discovered her true feelings had never dissipated and watching her unwind and become less frigid. Opening herself up to a love that was never lost along with Noah constantly punishing himself for not being the man he wanted to be since the beginning was enchanting. A good romance, but with the tawdry tales I’ve experienced and witnessed in my lifetime… it was a tad bit predictable. But even with that, the fact that the author has been able to create such a wonderful place in my heart for these characters is a true strength that will always make me read her work.

Last minute wedding preparations on an exotic private island, three sisters, two brothers, too many misunderstandings, some secrets, and a few lies, make this delightful story a great read. It is a well written romance with intriguing plot twists and an unexpected but happy ending. Well worth reading on a cozy winter afternoon!

For Those Who Wait
by Roberta Pearce

I thought this was a lovely read about young love, lost love, reborn love, it was a very touching read that I totally enjoyed. This was just a wonderful feel good romance it isn’t one of those that you have to have your mind total on. I loved it because it was a read that I didn’t have to worry that I would have to reread it for fear of missing something. I have a lot going on and I just wanted a read that was easy to follow with a wonderful plot that I could just enjoy and the author gave me this. I think the title fits the book to a T, sometimes if you wait long enough you get your heart’s desire.

Fiona has always loved Noah she would have waited forever for him. This wasn’t in the cards when she went over to make him see how they could be he told her she was a little to late. That he was getting married to someone else. That day changed Fiona she was never the same, life goes on and choices are make just to come back around to the beginning again.

Noah is now divorce with a few secrets that no one knows of. He comes home for his brother’s wedding as it turns out to the wrong sister. Noah finds he has feelings for Fiona but she seems to be in love with his brother who is marrying her sister. Are you confused yet? Really it is very simple more simple than anything thinks. A few mixed signals and you have one messed up wedding. Can Fiona and Noah every get their crap together so they can finally be together? What about Will will he marry the nasty sister or will he find love somewhere else?

Mara is the mean sister, jealousy is a nasty thing, she always wants what Fiona has. She never sees that if she would just be kinder people would love her to. She has spent her whole life making Fiona life a nightmare. She now has Will she couldn’t be happier she has finally taken something away from her sister but has she? I bet she will be shocked to find out that Fiona never wanted Will and what will she do when she come to understand this?

The author gives you an easy read, love loving, humorous read that leaves you smiling. I really enjoyed this story so much and look forward to reading more from this author.
