I had the privilege and honor of beta-reading Flay for Ty Patterson. This is no way has hindered my ability to write a sincere and unbiased review.

What a terrific little crime/action thriller this book is! Flay is the 5th installment of the “Warriors series of Crime Action Suspense Thrillers” by author Ty Patterson. The Warriors are a group of elite Special Ops agents and their aids who report to The Agency, a “nonexistent group” consisting of one woman who in turn reports directly to the President of the United States.

Earlier in the series, the emphasis of the Warrior stories has been on action. As Mr. Patterson’s writing career has evolved, he has trended more towards crime fiction, but still with a generous dose of action for good measure. Though I love the Warrior action scenes, I must say I have really been enjoying the more involved crime/serial killer plotlines that have been presented in his last 3 books.

In Flay, there are two concurrent storylines. One involves a New York City serial killer who likes to abduct and filet the skin off his victims—alive. The other plotline concerns Middle Eastern terrorists. Mr. Patterson nicely dovetails these two stories together, though the reader must be willing to grant the author a bit of leeway in terms of realism. I was game, and I was greatly entertained in return.

There is a lot to like in Flay. Our Warriors and their clients and colleagues are very likeable, which is almost a must for me. The baddies are despicable, horribly so. The dialogue is laced with bits of humor, some of which made me laugh out loud. The writing is efficient and the story moves right along. Twists and turns prevail, with the patented bigger-than-life twist Mr. Patterson always seems to have near the end of his novels. The action scenes are downright thrilling and literally increased my heart rate. Mr. Patterson, in my opinion, is second to none in his ability to bring an action scene to life.

Another thing I liked about Flay is that our hero Zeb is finally starting to allow himself to feel more emotion and compassion. We know that he has some devastating personal experiences in his past history, though as yet we are not privy to the details. Hopefully as the series moves forward, we will continue to get more insight into his difficult backstory.

The twins, Meghan and Beth Pedersen, are back, and they are an integral part of the team in Flay. I love the twins with their smarts, humor, and repartee with the original Warriors and the NYPD cops. Their introduction into the series in book 3, The Warrior Code, was a brainstorm move and has done nothing but enhance the quality of the novels.

I highly recommend Flay and the rest of the Warrior series to anyone looking for good entertainment. For maximal enjoyment, I suggest the books be read in order. Though I don’t generally read more than 4-5 books in a given series, I am definitely looking forward to the sixth Warrior novel, Behind You.

REVIEW: FLAY by Ty Patterson [WARRIORS Series #5]

FLAY is a fast-paced adventure-suspense thriller with enticements for nearly everyone. For the crime aficionados, there is a nasty villain, a cleverly-concealed Narcissistic serial killer with a seeming abundance of funds who moves through upper Manhattan society and with impunity cuts his own swath. For political/military thriller fans, a seemingly invincible, unstoppable, sniper cuts through a high-powered fanatic Middle Eastern terrorist group, killing and shaming. The totally covert group featuring Zeb Carter steps him to try to solve these nearly insurmountable crimes.

First of all, I offer my thanks to Mr. Ty Patterson for providing me with an advance copy of Flaywhich I read as a beta reader. I apologize to the author for the oversight in posting my review.

Flay is a bit different from the other books in the Warrior series. It features two convergent story lines. One involves Middle Eastern terrorists; the other features a psychopathic serial killer in New York who flays his victims – alive – and keeps parts of them on display as souvenirs.

What can these two very distinctly different evils have in common? Zeb Carter. Without giving away any of the plot, I will say that the author was quite ingenuous in the building his plots and drawing them closer and closer together as the story progressed. The grand finale? I was stunned!

Zeb Carter begins to show a few cracks in his armor. Perhaps there is a feeling human being inside after all. The Pederson twins, Meghan and Beth, once again have a more substantial role in this book, which is an added plus, I feel. They are witty, intelligent, and they add humor to what would otherwise be a very heavy, testosterone-laden tale.

I’m not totally wild about the Middle East parts of the Warrior books, but since most of them are ex-military, those story lines are here to stay. I thought that some of the merger between the murderers was way over-the-top, but much of the book was enjoyable. As usual, Patterson’s criminals are as depraved as they come, and Carter shows off his array of secret weapons and tricks. If you are a fan of the Warrior series, this one should be on your to-read list for sure!

What a chilling read!

Zeb and the team tackle a twisted serial killer whilst at the same time attempt to track down a group of terrorists.

Tightly woven plot, the characters feel real enough that they might walk off the page and the antagonists are diabolically evil but also feel incredibly and unsettlingly real, no cardboard caricatures within these pages.

And just for a change, someone is out to kill Zeb. Silly someone, they really have no clue who they're dealing with ...

Different then the stories in the first box sets, this had two plots. One with terrorists in the Middle East. The second with psychopathic. killer. More gruesome in detail of the killing and how they were when found. Zeb and the twins work with two cops as they hunt the killer down. Not my favorite, the plot it self was good.

Once again Ty Patterson delivers a suspenseful crime-thriller. Zeb Carter is put to the test as he attempts to solve a cold case and bring closure to two young girls who lost their mother to a heinous murderer. And when the murderer, known as the Flayer, teams up with a ruthless Jihadist with a passion for beheading his victims, the story goes in a rather unpredictable direction. With a cool style and a knack for twists and turns, Mr. Patterson keeps you turning the pages. If you've read the Warrior series, you expect a smashing finale, and you won't be disappointed. Excellent read and highly recommended!

Book Five in a very good series, Warriors.

Zeb, Bwana, Roger and the twins, as well as the NYPD are involved in a dual chases. One, a serial killer is skinning women alive. Two is a group of terrorists intent on doing their damage in New York.

A well written procedural as the heroes follow the clues. As in all action thriller, there are some leaps of faith, but what the heck, it's a fun, entertaining read.

Flay: A Covert-Ops Suspense Action Novel (Warriors Series of Crime Action Thrillers Book 5), my third read from author Ty Patterson. I made the mistake of previously reading Hunting You, the 7th book in this series first, and got hooked on the main character, so I went out & got The Warrior: A Covert-Ops Suspense Action Novel (Warriors Series of Crime Action Thrillers Book 1). I read this book in a matter of hours, yeah, it is that good! I'm a character reader, I get into the characters, their story, and who/what they are. The author does an amazing job of painting the primary character quickly & thoroughly, all the significant characters in his writing are developed similarly. This book is in all senses of the word, a thriller, I can see more about these characters in the future, and since I own another dozen books by the author that should prove simple. This was horrifically explicit but exciting. Does this mean I have something wrong with my head? Zeb is the best. I am glad we got to visit with more of his team. The twins are a bit too frantic, perhaps they will settle down in future installments. Zeb and his team are running circles around my old hero Jack Reacher. It could be that turd Tom Cruise tarnishing Jack's halo. The flayer and the ghul were nasty, nasty bad guys. But loved, loved, loved the Butcher!

Seems to be part of a stand alone series. The main character Zeb and his team helps the NYC hunt down a serial killer and a terrorist group sworn to mass killings in NYC. THE PACE IS FAST, THE CHARACTERS ARE ENGAGING, ITS GOOD GUYS VS BAD GUYS.

'Hotter than the inside of a gun barrel.'

The Flayer, a serial killer, is terrorizing New York city. He chooses his victims randomly and kills them in the most gruesome manner. The Flayer is working to a plan; to break the internet. However, that's only part of his plan. The second part will break the city.

Special Ops agent Zeb Carter, recruited to help the NYPD, has never come across a killer as evil and cunning as the Flayer. The Flayer appears at will, disappears into the darkness, and all that he leaves behind his a mutilated body. As the body count rises and New Yorkers turn on the police, the Flayer amps the pressure. He releases a video of his killing and makes a chilling promise. His next killing will break the internet - it will be live. Zeb Carter has few clues; the only lead he has uncovered suggests that breaking the internet is not the Flayer's sole motive. He is building up to a terrifying climax the likes of which the city hasn't faced before. . Zeb decides to come out in the open in order to draw out the Flayer; however he might be too late. The Flayer has already set his plan in motion. The city that never sleeps is heading to a catastrophic nightmare.

Now for this book! The first thing that I like about this series is family feeling that I get when I read and the relationships that have been built among the team. The way that they care for each other and the loving way that they work together even with the business that they are in and including Clare! I have read every book in the series and I look forward to the toys that the author comes up with, they are fascinating an even though some of them are way out there to some of us, they totally fit with the story line...

What did I like? Being a beta reader for this author lets me receive the books before they are released to the public and believe me I can’t wait to read each of them. This author has shown growth and depth to his stories that reach up there with some of the best in the crime writing genre. I have purchased my own copies because I love the series and want to be able to have them in my own library. Authors work hard in their craft and even though the public thinks that all they do is sit in front of a computer and write all day, it is not true. The research they do starts from their mind to the many avenues of searching to get it right. They may visit a police department, even ride along on a shift, talk to retired people that are or were involved in the field that they are writing about. To actually using text books to make sure what they write will stand up to their own values. This is something that I personally have never wanted to do but I sure do appreciate the amount of work that it takes to put it all down on paper for us the readers. The other thing that Joe Public does not think about is marketing that piece of work after it is completed. That again is really hard work and only when we the public purchase that work is it a success to the writer. Sales matter too!!!! I spent many years working in my field to have the right to be able to enjoy reading the way I do and I certainly enjoy this author’s work. I hope you do too!

What will you like? Zeb and all the members of his team will be involved in another action filled adventure that will keep you reading till late hours of the night cause you just can’t stop lay it down. I myself do this all the time, especially in this series. You will love the action and reaction with all the characters as they flow through the stories and you will certainly hate the bad guys. This author has developed a team of characters that will stay with you far into the future. One thing that I love and I am sure you will to is the toys that the group works with. The author has a way of coming up with new ones in each of his stories and he has a way of making sure you don’t miss the relationships with any character that he adds. This will be another book to add to your own library as I have.

Book 5, in the Warriors series

Mr. Patterson in this latest stepped slightly out of hard core thrillers genre to give us in “Flay” a more crime action mystery with a hefty dose of action and a lot of entertainment. This latest has a terrific but gruesome storyline to chill our veins and is another winner for Mr. Patterson.

We follow two plots: one involves a serial killer who likes to skin off his female victims and the other concerns Middle Eastern terrorists. The threads weaves nicely together although the drama may be stretched a bit far in both stories, I still kept turner pages at a rapid pace to keep up with the suspense. Heart pounding twists and turns all through giving us a downright thrilling experience. The writing is spot on and moves right along bringing everything to life…although scary at times. The characterization is good, the Warriors are smart and likable and the bad guys are very very nasty, just the way I like my characters in this type of books. The foxy twins Meghan and Beth’s clever retorts added a touch of smarts, humour and chic to the novel and their contribution is an added thrill. Of course we have a grandstanding finale to close up everything neat and tidy.

For those planning to read this series I would highly recommend to read the books in orders for maximum enjoyment.

First!y I received an audio copy of this book for review from it's author, Ty Patterson.
The wrong narrator can easily ruin the enjoyment of a good book but this is not the case here: Steve Carlson's reading was perfectly paced, clear, and he differentiated between characters without turning it into a one person dramatic production..

As with all of this author's work, Flay is well written, the protagonists are fully defined and feel real, even the secondary players, and, a!though action packed, it does not rely on fight scenes alone to excite and maintain the building tension. A good story, built primarily around the hunt for The Flayer, a viscous serial killer who leaves no clues other than messages sent to the victim's family and the police, but which also tracks a terrorist cell intent on bringing their own variety of death and destruction into America. The storylines coverage as both are tirelessly tracked by Zeb Carter and his team over several months to the explosive ending.
I listened mesmerized to this audio production with virtually no break and can highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys action, thrillers or police type procedurals.

Very well written and enjoyable book.
Even though this is the 5th book in the series I don't think it's necessary to read the previous books in order to enjoy this one.

Plenty of suspense, intrigue, action and twists that keep you glued to the story.

Really good, interesting, entertaining and engaging plot line that weaves 2 converging story lines together seamlessly. The story is constantly moving forward.

Zeb Carter is a fantastic character. Loved the twins . Great mixture of minor characters as well all working together to catch a sadistic killer known as the Flayer, as if that’s not enough another killer known as the Ghoul teams up with the Flayer and they have something in common.

Steve Carlson did a fantastic job with the narration. Great voices for all the characters. Nice even pacing. Clearly spoken. Brings the emotions of the characters and the situation to life.

This is my first Ty Patterson book, all I can say is I've been missing out. I need to go back and catch up with the rest of the series.

You are walking down the street and run into someone you know and the next thing is you are now part of a book. Flay is just the short version of the person that you meet. The full person is known as the Flayer. You will just have to grab the book to find out what is happening, but you better hurry if you do not want to be in it like the others.

This was a good read because of the 2 plots going on. It was real interesting how they finally intertwined with each other.I thought I would be lost coming into book 5 of the series, but it looks like they can all stand on their own merits if need be. I like that. Most definitely will be reading the others in this series.

Steve Carlson kept it moving right along and the change of characters was great. You could tell who it was before he read who it was.

You need to go get this one just for the pure pleasure of a read that will provoke quite a few feelings.

This is the 5th book in the Warrior series, but I have not read any of the other books in the series. It does work well as a stand alone. I could tell there were som back stories that I didn't have, but they weren't integral to the story.

I really enjoyed this book. I find writing from the point of view of a killer fascinating. Because I do find that type of premise so interesting, I found myself a little less interested in the other storyline, which did merge nicely, though. Both were great storylines and came together nicely, but I think I would have liked 2 separate books with 1 for each storyline.

The narrator was excellent. The narration made the book very engaging and easy to listen to. One of the reasons I like audiobooks is because good, animated narrators can really bring stories to a whole different level & this narrator definitely did.

Not one of the better Zeb Carter stories. Too much wording and not enough action. I really enjoyed the first four books, and have just finished number six, which to me, was back to the basics of the Zeb stories.

I have not been disappointed in any of the warriors series of novels. In this book we meet the Flayer. The Flayer is evil and he is terrorizing New York. It's going to take Zeb Carter and all his team to find him and stop the killings. Great action thriller at never slows down!
I listen to the audio version of this novel, the reader did a good job of keeping the identities of each character separate. Really glad to see Ty release an audio version of the book, hopefully he will release all the others also.

I love the crisp writing. I did not feel there were any unnecessary words to interfere with the story. When I read Warriors Book 1, I was hooked and had to ration myself or I would have gone several days with no sleep. I can't put Ty's stories down until I'm finished, and I love that.
