Review for the complete series

Sugar Soldier is a great series if you enjoy cute shoujo fluff. The characters are all likeable, the romance is sweet and largely drama-free with both leads treating each other sweetly. There are nice friendships and family relations that don't fall short either. The art is quite typical shoujo but very pretty, definitely one of Sakai's best art-wise.

Although this series does delve into some more serious themes - child abandonment, terminal illness, sibling rivalry and even an implied sexual assault - I found this to be an incredibly light series. It's great as it gives it a nice wholesome feeling without having to over complicate things. But it also means there's no true conflict to overcome which means the series bumbles along a little bit. This is by no means a bad thing as it'll be perfect if you truly just want a cute high school romance with friendships, but it won't pack the same punch as some more complex series. I definitely would recommend for fans of the genre though.

Makoto und ihre Freunde sind mittlerweile im zweiten Highschool-Jahr und die Klassen werden neu verteilt. Unglücklicherweise werden Makoto und ihr Freund Shun dabei getrennt, doch wenigstens Uki und Nanami bleiben Makoto erhalten. Alle sind geschockt, als sich ihr neuer Klassenlehrer Her Kudo als Ukis Freund entpuppt! Als die Beziehung der beiden aufzufliegen droht, kann Issei dies in letzter Sekunde verhindern. Schweren Herzens legen die beiden ihre Beziehung fürs Erste auf Eis. Angesichts dessen macht sich auch Makoto so ihre Gedanken: Sie fürchtet, Shun könnte sich mehr Intimität wünschen. Als er sie küssen will, stößt sie ihn unwillkürlich von sich ... wie es nun wohl weiter geht. Im Bonus bekommen wir nochmal ein paar Einblicke von Rika und ihrem Freund.

Another great volume in a series I really enjoy. I love the character development and the serious situation depicted in this adorable drawing style. Didn't like how it ended on a cliffhanger though

La relazione tra Makoto e Iriya lascia il palco ai personaggi secondari. Se nel volume scorso di parlava di Rika, in questo ci sono Uki, Shirayuki e Issei al centro della trama.

Shirayuki ha una cotta tremenda per Uki, così come Issei. Il ragazzo però si è accorto che Uki ha una persona speciale, che si rivela essere il professore di biologia della loro classe. La cosa crea ovviamente parecchi problemi ma Issei tira fuori il meglio di sé.

Caspita, sempre meglio questo manga. Son contentissima di averlo letto.
