Visual Merchandising, Third edition: Windows and in-store displays for retail

Rate this book
A great introduction for retail students, this book offers a user-friendly reference guide to all aspects of visual merchandising and covers both window dressing and in-store areas. Using examples from a range of shops, from fashion emporia to small outlets, the book offers practical advice on the subject, supported by hints and tips from established visual merchandisers.

It reveals the secrets of their toolkit and information on the use of mannequins, the latest technology, and how to construct and source props, and explains the psychology behind shopping and buyer behavior. This new edition contains two new case studies, updated images, and new material on digital and interactive visual merchandising.

Presented through color photographs, diagrams of floor layouts, and store case studies, and including invaluable information such as a glossary of terms used in the industry, Visual Merchandising is an essential handbook for anyone working in and learning about this exciting area.

I am currently in training of visual merchandiser's position, and I can tell this book is so valuable, it might be even better than just on-hands type of training. This book will be the best friend to a newbie in fashion world and extremely useful for a small boutique owner.

С одной стороны, книга поверхностная, но с другой, другой литературы на данную тему просто нет. Тем не менее, я считаю, что простой бенчмаркинг, наблюдение и здравый смысл смогут заменить эту книгу.

On the one hand, the book is superficial, but on the other hand, there is simply no other literature on the subject. Nevertheless, I believe that simple benchmarking, observation, and common sense can replace this book.

Yet again there are much better books on the bricks and mortar store than the virtual one.

Most websites build shops based on catalogues, but the great retail experiences are the shops like Selfridges that design the whole thing for maximum impact and to really create a brand through the feel of the shop.

This book looks like a good guide to what is known to work, and has some good photos - looking forward to reading it.
