His Lost Mate (A Steamy Paranormal Romance Novel)
by Kathy Kulig

Wow! This story is so much fun and informative too.

Lauren is trying to finish up her master's degree in Archaeology after going through a divorce. She applies for a field program at Boston University. This takes her to Tikal, Guatemala, to the ancient Mayan Ruins. Dr. Deven Chandler is in charge of the excavation on this trip. He is a very handsome man and she really needs to not think about having any relationships. Her last one cost her dearly. She starts hearing voices in tombs, having dreams that tell a story and seeing a ghost. What more can happen to her in this country?

Deven Chandler is a very analytical person. He is a "have to see it to believe it" type of person. That is why he loves being an Archaeologist. It is hands on, solid proof of an ancient civilization. His main goal is to prove his theory on why the Mayan people just basically vanished. He didn't plan on having any relationships again for quite awhile. His last one proved that traveling all the time is bad on relationships. Then he picks Lauren up at the airport and all of that goes out the window. Even though he knows he shouldn't start anything with a student, she is an adult after all.

This story has, a ghost, visions, an ex-fiance, two hyperactive college boys, a hot professor, sacrifices, tomb raiders with big guns and so much more.

There is a mystery going on here and it isn't just what happened to Mayan's.

I was given this an advanced readers copy (ARC) of this book for an honest review here on Goodreads. I'd like to say I am very glad Ms. Kulig chose me as I found this book to not be the typical romance novel. OH YES, it definitely has the Romance but there is SO MUCH MORE.

If you like Romance, Suspense, a touch of the Paranormal and Humor in your books, His Lost Mate is perfect for you. I must admit it took me the first couple of chapters to get into the story but after that it was all I could do to put it down or find a stopping spot to eat and sleep.

The story takes place at an excavation site in the rain forest, where Lauren meets the sexy as heck professor Deven. There is instant chemistry between them. What the couple don't know is their lives were tied together centuries ago. Lauren begins to have dreamlike visions, aided by the ghost of a centuries old shaman. The Shaman, who claims he was her father in a previous life, tells her she and her associates are in danger and that she needs to find a certain artifact to protect them. Are her visions real? Will anyone believe her? Does she believe him or is it just stress and exhaustion? I won't spoil the book and say more but I do HIGHLY recommend His Lost Mate. It is a superbly written suspenseful, paranormal, humorous in spots, romance story that spans centuries. 2 THUMBS UP!

Paranormal romances have always intrigued me. I love the element of something that can’t be scientifically explained mixed in with a budding romance. When I picked this book up for review, the description sounded completely amazing. There’s a ghost that helps the main female character, Lauren, along the way but she also experiences visions that are frighteningly real to her. There’s also the possibility that Lauren and her professor, Devon, are the reincarnated souls of two Maya lovers. I enjoyed how the author used the idea of reincarnation, but there were times where I just didn’t understand how Devon was the Maya soldier when he didn’t experience anything. Lauren’s experiences made it much more plausible that she could be the reincarnated woman.

As far as the characters go, I didn’t really see growth during the book. I think I would have liked it better had they shown some kind of change. Their relationship moved very quickly as well and it felt off in places. Maybe if they had started a relationship sooner in the book, it would have matured better and I would have enjoyed it more.

Excellent story! I received this book as an ARC read, and am blown away. I could not put it down. The professor falling in love with an older student, the archaeological aspect of the story along with soulmates meeting again hundreds of years later with suspense added in - all together in one book - excellent reading! I highly recommend this book!

I don't know what I expected but that wasn't it. Very well written story but the romance was overshadowed by the mystery. There were a few hot scenes but not enough for me. Plus it seemed like the scenes were put in so it would be a romance.

This is a good book, though it was very slow moving but lots of interesting jungle, excavating & reincarnation stuff.
