Sia both loved and hated Halley’s Peak. A small town in the Nevada desert, known for more alien conspiracies than even Roswell, she loved it because it was the only place that still carried untainted vestiges of her mother’s memory. And she hated it because of her violent, drunken father and the suffocating small-town mentality. Nothing interesting ever happened there.

Having finally taken the last slap from her father, Sia was leaving. Vegas first, then who knew?
She shoved her hands deep into the pockets of her leather jacket and trudged along, hoping the bus ticket wouldn’t be too expensive.
Suddenly a hand clenched her arm and swivelled her around. She was faced with none other than Q, the new, hot regular from the diner. Sure there had been chemistry between them but she didn’t see why he would feel the need to see her off.

When he urgently said “You have to come with me, now,” she knew something was finally, for better or worse, happening in Halley’s Peak.

What?!

Lots of action for a short story. The dialogue is laugh out loud silly with frequent slang. It's choppy but interesting in a ridiculous way.

The romance is skipped over in favor of action and alien plots. The heroine suddenly needs the Hero and they get it on (the sex happens off the page).

Over all, I won't read this again. So much crazy stuff happens that it was hard to lose myself in the story. If more details were given instead of random stuff just popping in without much explanation it would have been better. Open ending.

The language was way too much. I get it is supposed to be early 90's, but I'd be just as annoyed reading a book taking place now- with all the dialogue in slang. Also, the heroine needed to take her aggression down a notch.
