Age of Apocalypse! See the X-Men like you've never seen them before. Magneto has assembled a roster of brave mutants to usher in an age of peaceful coexistence between humanity and mutantkind. But there are those who wish to see humanity enslaved! Enter Apocalypse!
This was actually pretty good and totally unexpected Sabertooth is fighting for apocalypse Nemesis is also fighting for apocalypse We see horseman Gideon who dies this issue and a couple more horsemen that we haven't seen before The story follows the first battle between Magneto and his x-men against Apocalypse and his horsemen Apocalypse doesn't actually fight in this issue but he makes an appearance and an attempt on the x-men's lives via his battleship
A good comic with only a few problems. Sabretooth's turn as a hero works better without the hackneyed explanation presented here: just not very consistent to his previously established character. Also, I like Klaus Janson and Terry Dodson separately as artists, but maybe not together? Janson's gritty inks with Dodson's "cheesecake" good girl art doesn't exactly mesh great, though it's not terrible by any means, just not the best. Age of Apocalypse functions as a drawn out What if? story, but a good one. Also problematic are the Maximoff siblings and their relationship to Magneto, though the later retcons hadn't happened yet. Recommended for anyone who wants some back story for the world presented in Age of Apocalypse.
