Find Your Inner Rebel: Use the Power of Resistance and Resilience to Fuel Your Career Reinvention

You're stuck. Mid-career, maybe laid off, burnt out and nodding along while quietly panicking, or fine on paper and wrong everywhere else. This book is for you, but it's not another manual telling you to network harder and polish your profile. It’s a credo built around a formula: three words to power you up: resistance, resilience, reinvention.

Trust me, my career wasn't tidy either. I got hired, fired, and unfired — yes, all three — at one company, and lived to write about it. Here's what my path taught me: you don't advance by playing it safe. You do it by refusing to conform, surviving the fallout, and building on every experience.

Resistance + Resilience = Reinvention

I'll walk you through how to make the formula yours.

Part 1: Resistance covers nonconformity, rejecting norms, and the first brushes with rebellion that shape identity. You’ll learn how your interests can guide your direction, how to rely on yourself, and how to set long-term goals on purpose.

Part 2: Resilience covers overcoming adversity, staying adaptable, and holding the line under pressure. Strategies for leaning on yourself and others, regulating emotions, and keeping a flexible mind open to more than one path to success.

Part 3: Reinvention brings it together — how resistance and resilience fuel transformation, backed by the belief that you can do more, be more, for yourself.

Along the way: my snarky career tales, sharp research, and a conspiracy board linking the likes of Napster and Elizabeth Holmes — all building toward resilience that isn't the tireless machine kind, but the misfit kind that makes you unmistakably you.

Musically, this book's punk rock — The Clash, Joan Jett, Sonic Youth, and more. Grab your headphones, crack the book, and call it your first act of resistance. Find your inner rebel.

What I liked about this book is that it doesn’t pretend careers are supposed to be linear.

Kevin’s own career has taken him through startups, freelancing, big companies, different roles, successes, and plenty of unexpected turns. That made the book feel relatable to me because my own path hasn’t exactly followed a straight line either.

The idea of resistance + resilience = reinvention is simple, but the more I read, the more it made sense. Sometimes moving forward means questioning what you’re supposed to be doing. Sometimes it means getting through something that didn’t work out. And sometimes you look back and realize that all those random experiences actually prepared you for what came next.

I also appreciated that Kevin doesn’t write like he has everything figured out. There is humor, some great Silicon Valley stories, and a willingness to talk about the messy parts of building a career.

It’s a good reminder that reinvention doesn’t mean throwing away everything you’ve done before. A lot of the time, you’re just finding a new way to put those pieces together.
