Melanie Park is the Communications Director for the Erie City Hawks baseball team, and when she heads to Turks and Caicos for a much-needed, relaxing vacation, she expects a week of sunshine and relaxation. Instead, her vacation gets off to a disastrous start when the resort loses her reservation and suddenly has no room for her. Ben Weber is the manager of the Erie City Hawks, and he has been harboring feelings for Melanie since the moment they met. When he offers her a room in his villa for the week, he knows he could be playing with fire. Being around Melanie has always been difficult when he has feelings for her, but having her all to himself for an entire week takes things to another level. As Melanie and Ben spend more time together, the lines between friendship, attraction, and something much deeper begin to blur. What starts as a vacation arrangement quickly becomes a week filled with chemistry, stolen moments, laughter, and emotions neither of them can ignore. Once they return to Erie City, they have to face the reality of their situation. A relationship between them could put both of their careers at risk.

Ben is such a relatable MMC. Baseball has been a huge part of his life, and he has sacrificed so much to build the career he has. He understands exactly what is at stake, but when it comes to Melanie, suddenly his priorities begin to shift. He doesn’t just want a temporary relationship or a vacation fling, he wants a future with her. Ben is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for Melanie, even if that means giving up the career he has spent his entire life building. What I loved most about Ben was his determination to protect Melanie. He knows that if their relationship becomes public, she is likely to face consequences that he won’t. Rather than allowing her to carry that burden alone, Ben is determined to make sure she doesn’t become the one who pays the price for their relationship. Melanie is equally relatable. She comes into her position with the Hawks after leaving a previous job where she experienced racism from her boss. The Hawks are everything her previous workplace wasn’t, and Melanie has worked hard to build a career she can be proud of. She knows exactly what she has to lose. If their relationship becomes public, she fears she will be the one who loses her job and everything she has worked so hard to achieve. Even though her feelings for Ben are real, she can’t simply ignore the potential consequences.

In conclusion, I gave this book 5 stars because I really enjoyed watching Melanie and Ben navigate those conflicting emotions. Their connection feels natural, and their time together in Turks and Caicos gives them the opportunity to see each other outside of the professional roles they have always occupied. What begins as an unexpected vacation situation turns into something neither of them is prepared to walk away from. Ben and Melanie realize that sometimes the biggest risk is walking away from the person who could be your everything. Their journey shows just how difficult it can be to balance the career you’ve worked your entire life for with the love you never expected to find.
