When the world is about to end, do you still keep fighting? From the moment Kamala put on her costume, she's been challenged, but nothing has prepared her for this: the Last Days of the Marvel Universe. Fists up, let's do this, Jersey City. Plus a very special guest appearance fans have been clamoring for!
Hugo, World Fantasy and American Book Award-winning author of novels and comics, including THE BIRD KING, INVISIBLE KINGDOM, and ALIF THE UNSEEN. Co-creator of Ms Marvel. Honorary doctor of letters, Rutgers University. I accidentally started a dutch baby baking cult during quarantine. Not very active on here right now, but often found on Twitter.
I really like the set up in this one and I’m curious what is going to happen next. I mainly loved seeing Kamala doubt herself in this one. I mean, I love her being confident in herself and in being a hero but she’s also still 16 and there are going to be moments of self doubt and that’s okay. I also really like how it is being done in this issue.
This is a great start to a new arc. I assume that it's tied into the Marvel Secret Wars event, which I admit ai know next to nothing about other then the fact that it throws everything into chaos.
Anyway, in this issue we see Kamala broken-hearted over Kamran and wondering how shoe could have been so wrong about him. Her hot dog munching is interrupted when it becomes clear that something big is happening in the city. As chaos reigns Ms Marvel tried her best to mitigate things for those closest to her, only to run into Kamran again.
Kamala is just a teenager after all and it's easy to see how heavily the weight of responsibility is hanging on her right now. When she goes to catch a breath and make a plan she instead finds herself joined by another superhero. Her favorite one of all.
This was a great issue but I'm sure the next one will be even more amazing!
Read this as part of the Bookriot Read Harder 2017 Challenge and it checked off a few boxes (All ages comic, comic with female lead, and a book within 100 miles of my location). I came in the middle of the story (this graphic novels contains issues 16-19 of Ms. Marvel: Last days and Amazing Spiderman issues 7 and 8. What I do enjoy about this Ms. Marvel is that she is Muslim and an average teen fighting criminals and Islamaphobia. Comics have a way of being multicultural and groundbreaking. I appreciate that about this one. I might have to go pick up the rest of the novels just to understand what is happening.
This, as you might guess from the cover, ties in with the Marvel 'Secret Wars' event that's currently happening. While you don't actually really need to know what's happening with that to get this, I still went and learned about it anyway so I'd got the background. As such, this is a little flatter than the issues usually are because part of it relies on larger universe knowledge. Still, special mention for the Loki monster things because they were awesome!
Kamala is broken hearted, but that doesn't stop her from trying to save her city when another evil (who can it be, what can it be...) comes to visit.
Bruno and his brother are amazing as sidekicks, but Kamala is going to need all the help in the world (or worlds) to fight the evil breaker of hearts Kamran. And help she gets.
This had a strong start to the next arc. It was more explanation than the moments that make Ms Marvel so fun, but that's understandable considering what they're setting up. I feel like the other arcs had a stronger start, however. The stakes have certainly been raised here quite a bit. I'm interested to see how this all plays out.
This was a good dose of Ms. Marvel. I needed a quick read and artwork as always is superb in this issue. It just lacked action a bit and it didn't help that Kamala was all down about that jerk of a guy.
Wilson does an amazing job giving a voice to Ms. Marvel, one of the most unique Marvel characters in a while. She also writes a funny and endearing teenage superhero story. On top of that, there's Alphona's artwork, which is always a pleasure.
This issue was so fucking BRILLIANT, I loved it so much! It had inner conflict, bravery, and everything else that I love about Kamala. That ending had me SCREAMING. FINALLY. I need to get the next issues ASAP!!!!
A Battleworlds/end of the Marvel world 2015 arc I didn't think was oddly contrived or based too heavily on overused comic book tropes. Also, Kamala Khan should be on everyone's radar by now.
Just when you think Ms. Marvel can't get any better, Wilson adds Captain Marvel to the mix. I cannot get enough of this series... and this is one of the best issues, yet.
