Dark Lights
After a hurricane struck Andros Island in the Bahamas in 1958, a strange thing happened at the Point-du-Lac logging camp in the north. Everything died. A group of scientists is sent to examine the diseased and ravaged place in the middle of the jungle. They discover a small pit filled with the cannibalized remains of several humans–and soon members of the team start to die under mysterious and violent circumstances. What is the grisly menace that prevents anything from surviving at the Point-du-Lac logging camp in the Bahamas?

The polar setting for Briar’s WALKING ON MARS serial echoes her experiences in the world’s coldest climate as a guest at McMurdo Base in Antarctica. Warming up on Andros Island in the Bahamas helped her set the scene for DARK LIGHTS. She and her dive partners were offered $100 rewards from the Navy base there should any of them find a live torpedo out on the reefs.
The BIG ASS SHARK author recently donned a wet suit to climb into a shark cage in the northern Pacific. Then Briar and her stalwart search and rescue dog, Thor, patrolled the Georgia woods and succeeded in helping the police locate and recover a missing person. The experience will no doubt fuel her future fiction.
When not engaging in her edgier pastimes, Briar creates digital paintings for a diverse list of clients ranging from Warner Bros. to the U. S. Air Force. Her work has been featured in films, video games, and exhibited at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
She also spends a lot of time floating in her Florida pool watching clouds drift by and imagining mayhem. www.briarmitchell.com

Briar Lee Mitchell, author of BIG ASS SHARK, is an author who I've been following the work of due to how much I enjoyed that work. When I saw it had come out, I swiftly scooped it up and I wasn't disappointed. DARK LIGHTS is a creepy and fascinating tale set in the Bahamas where the author masterfully weaves various clues and hints as to what is going on. The story reminds me strongly of John Carpenter's THE FOG and the Carribean setting only helps its unconventional narrative. Horror fans will love this work.

I am so lucky! I saw this book, read the summary and knew I wanted it. I tried to find it and couldn't, so I did the next best thing; I reached out to the author, Briar Lee Mitchell. And thankfully, she sent me a link in Amazon! I will never regret the day I asked if she could send time a copy. Never!
Now in the book Dark Lights, you have to be prepared for a strange and dark read. There's a lot going on. As the reader, you find your immersed in the troubles of the Bahamian Pointe-du-Lac, a place that once housed employees and families of a logging industry. Abandoned for many years, the place isn't used or even visited anymore. Not until Casey and James. And then Amos, Bill, Soloon... etc!
A slew of folks, the EPA, folks at a diver's lodge, the local police and even three sexy Coast Guard officers/mercs are trapped on the waters and land of Pointe-du-Lac. Though deserted, the area's busy with appear to be ghostly apparitions, siren-like wails and mini tidal waves carrying man-eating sharks!
Everyone, excluding Casey and James are there through no desire of their own, but all want out, and can't escape the lights. The Dark Lights...
I enjoyed Dark Lights, but I do have to say, there were a few times I wasn't quite sure what I was supposed to be seeing. The description was a bit difficult to follow, so I had to force my imagination to hopefully see what the author wanted me to see. Had there been a bit more clarification, I think I'd have followed much better.

I started this book tonight and I.could.not.stop.
James and Casey are sent to the Bahamas to try and figure out why trees are no longer growing on an old logging site, despite being replanted for the last 50 years. Along the way they experience unusual phenomenon and fight for their own survival.

May 4, 2016I totally enjoyed this book! A real page turner, full of suspense. The ending wasnt what i expected, but i liked this book.
