The Hammonds are taking a stab at transatlantic love. Michael is off to London on a year's sabbatical to finish a book of poetry. His wife, Kate, a television producer, jousts with the hazards of New York, their two children and Bill's predatory academic colleague, Bill.
This book was written as an epistolary novel, so it might be foreign to modern readers. Marsh makes this form look effortless but it is expertly crafted. The book weaves in works of art, poems, and astute observations about the human condition. I was deeply moved by this novel and highly recommend it.
