Where The Road Ends

Rate this book
Twelve weeks. That was all Daniel Mercer had to get through.

When a professional investigation throws his carefully ordered life off course, London doctor Daniel Mercer finds himself sent to Ardmore, a remote Scottish coastal village where everyone seems to know everyone—and privacy is apparently optional.

It is temporary.

Daniel has a job waiting for him in London, a flat to return to, and a date already marked on the calendar. He has absolutely no intention of becoming attached to a place he never chose.

Then he meets Jamie Fraser.

Jamie is everything Daniel isn't quietly confident, infuriatingly difficult to read, and deeply rooted in the village Daniel is so determined to leave.

What begins with chance encounters and reluctant friendship slowly becomes something neither of them planned.

But Daniel's twelve weeks are running out.

And some relationships are easier to begin when you don't have to ask how they're supposed to end.

Because sooner or later, Daniel will have to take the road out of Ardmore.

The question is what he'll be leaving behind.

Where the Road Ends is a warm, slow-burn contemporary gay romance about unexpected love, belonging, and finding something worth staying for when you were only ever meant to be passing through.

I enjoyed the story but boy was it hard to read…. The back and forth between all characters was insanely cumbersome. It’s like the author found an obscure word and tried to fit it into the story. Also it’s set in Scotland and there was no Scottish voice at all. It’s written like a screenplay rather than a book

It needed a really good edit before being released to the world….

This one of many…

The Glasgow email did not come up again.
Daniel kept his promise.
This required considerable effort.
On Sunday, Jamie came to the cottage carrying a bag of washing.
Daniel stared at it.
“What is that?”
“My washing machine's making a noise.”
“What kind of noise?”
“The kind where I stop using it.”
“That's surprisingly sensible.”
Jamie put the bag beside the stairs.
Daniel looked at it.
“You're doing laundry here now.”
“ Apparently.”
“This relationship has escalated.”
“We've slept together.”
“Laundry is more domestic.”
Jamie considered. “Fair.”
Daniel smiled.
