After she becomes lost in a thick mist while hiking near the borders of Scotland, Charlene Kelly is shocked to encounter two men on horseback. To her horror, the pair—both of whom are dressed in Scottish tartans—accost her and won’t let her go. Though the men speak with accents so strong they seem to come from another era, Charlene is able to gather that they believe she is a thieving boy. Unsure what else to do, Charlene plays along. When Will Sinclair and Robbie MacBride discover that their captive is in fact a woman—and quite a beautiful one at that—there is only one thing to be done. She must be punished for her deception, and punished thoroughly. A switch applied to her bare bottom does the job well, and soon enough the two men are comforting Charlene as she nurses her bright red, sore backside. Upon learning that the highlanders are hand-carrying an important message from Elizabeth of England to the court of Mary, Queen of Scots, it finally dawns on Charlene that she is no longer in her own time. Though she is desperate to find a way home, Will and Robbie are both unlike any man she has ever met, and their unabashed dominance awakens in her a powerful need to submit. Soon enough, she finds herself blushing with shame and quivering with desire as she is taken long and hard by two rugged highlanders at once. But can these hardened warriors keep her safe from the perils of a world far more dangerous than the one she left behind?Publisher’s Shared by the Highlanders is an erotic romance novel that includes spankings, sexual scenes including threesomes, elements of BDSM, and more. If such material offends you, please don’t buy this book.
Until 2010, Ashe was a director of a regeneration company before deciding there had to be more to life and leaving to pursue a lifetime goal of self-employment.
Ashe has been an avid reader of erotic romance for many years—historical, contemporary, fantasy—you name it. Now, at last in control of her own time and working from her home in rural West Yorkshire, she has been able to realise her dream of writing sexy and compelling stories herself.
She draws on settings and anecdotes from her previous and current experience to lend colour, detail and realism to her plots and characters, but her stories of love, challenge, resilience and compassion are the conjurings of her own imagination. She loves to craft strong, enigmatic men and bright, sassy women to give them a hard time—in every sense of the word.
When she’s not writing, Ashe’s time is monopolised by her role as grandma to a lively toddler. She shares her writing space with a tortoise called Teefer.
I have very mixed opinions about this story, and yet I did end up enjoying the resolution of the relationship between Charlie, a woman from the 21st century, and Will and Robbie, Scottish cousins from the time of Elizabeth the 1st. At one point I came pretty close to considering this book a DNF, but I am happy I persevered.
Those who know my opinions about fairness and punishment will recognize this complaint (and probably roll their eyes a bit ;P), but I just can't stand the reason for Charlie's first punishment, or the way in which it was carried out. It made no sense and, to me, felt completely out of character. As it is a spoiler don't look if you haven't already read the book (yeah, I know, I always read these too ;P).
As I said, this almost had me chucking the book aside and choosing another, but things did get better. This is an entertaining and erotic story (previous complaint aside) with all the fun of time travel romances. It didn't feel particularly historically accurate, Will and Robbie in particular vacillated between acting like 16th century men (or the historical romance version anyway) and present day dominants from a BDSM club (or the BDSM romance version anyway ;P), but as a time travel romp it works out pretty well.
What's better than one dominant highlander? Two of course, especially when you throw in time travel and a witch hunt! The plot surprised me with its twists and turns, especially the ending (which of course I won't give away). The menage sex/spanking scenes were glorious-- Ashe Barker has a gift for writing erotic scenes that really come to life, and in this case, having never had two men at once, I was completely fascinated! A quick, yummy read.
As I have seen in a handful of books now, the spanking is presented as domestic discipline but as soon as it begins the heroine wants more, more, MORE, and it becomes a regular spanking kink. Inevitably, I find myself wondering why the author bothered to present it as DD then? For me, that ruins the fantasy. In this case it was done to shape the story to fit modern style BDSM. Accordingly, consent became an big element. I know this will please plenty of readers, but it lessened my enjoyment. I don’t often read contemporary for a reason.
Other than that, it was a fun story. The heroine was a good, steady character. The heroes were thrillingly dominant, protective, and loving. The sex scenes were hella hot 🥵 and plentiful. Even the epilogue was a nice little wrap up.
Too much sex in this one, in my opinion, and not enough story. Travelling through time in a fog, while hiking the Scottish Highlands, Charlie (Charlene) is literally captured by 2 sexy highlanders in the year 1566. Not too much excitement in their travels except for the fact that Charlie saves a young boy from drowning, is labelled a witch and has to run for her life. Her two sexy highland escorts believe in strict discipline with lots of spanking - and lots of sex - and promise to help her get back to her time. What will life be like for her if she doesn't make it back to 2014? What will she lose if she does?
Loved the writing and plot in the erotica. First erotica I've read where a lady falls in love with two highlanders... - Charlene is hiking in Scotland and somehow time travels back to the time of Mary (Queen of Scots). Two Highlanders find her, capture her... but also be-friend and fall in love with her. The plot involves them uncovering a plot and more.... great writing and steamy read.
YUM! Imaginative, sexy and fun, describe this story. Wonderful characters, including sexy, alpha men and a smart, spirited woman, lead us through an ever changing, fun journey. This hot, exciting story is fast moving and full of surprises. A real treat, if you like strong, dominant guys and crazy, good sex!!!
I chose this rating because it was entertaining from beg. to end . Characters were likeable and well written in historical setting. I particularly liked the way it ended and finding out about Elspeth. Great read
This kind of erotica is very hot but does not usually have to good writing and interesting storyline of this book. Not the best romance I ever read, but some of the best erotica I have ever read
Ashe Barker's talent for creating endearing, flawed, hot-ass characters spills all over the pages of Shared by the Highlanders. Book boyfriends, people. Book. Boyfriends.
Setup: Our intrepid heroine, an emergency medical technician (EMT), wanders into a crack in time and ends up hundreds of years in the past with two hunky, dominant, caring men who enjoy sharing their women. Much incredible hotness ensues. And by hot, I mean, don't read this while other people are around unless it's someone with whom you are *ahem* intimately familiar.
My one small quibble is how compliant she is for that first spanking. Would someone raised in present day be as accepting of two strange men administering corporal punishment?
Moving on from that one tiny question mark, the entire book was as delicious as a mint dark chocolate mocha with extra chocolate, and I loved the surprise twist at the end. Where's my crack in the spatial continuum? I need a coupla highlanders.
As I am a huge fan of basically all things Scottish but especially strong alpha Scottish men in kilts, I was in love with this book! This was fantastic and I read it straight through, yes all 186 pages, because I was captivated by the story and the characters. Charlene is one lucky girl, although it takes her a bit to figure it out, and Will and Robbie are swoon worthy. They embark on a fantastic journey and whew, is it HOT! Don't miss this! I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an Advanced Reader Copy.
