Beautiful Menace (or Viral Violence) Half Japanese and half Jamaican, Aoki is young, beautiful, and known throughout her Brooklyn neighborhood as a menace to local authorities. On the eve of a brutal murder that hits close to home, Aoki needs her friends more than ever. Her ride-or-die besties, Tisa and Ri-Ri, are down to help by any means necessary, even if it puts their own freedom at risk.
While coming up in the drug game, AZ gets into a situation he can't handle on his own. When he reaches out to Aoki - an unlikely ally - the girls agree to handle his problem for a small fee. When surveillance video of the conquest goes viral, the Brooklyn hood chicks are transformed into Killer Dolls.
This overnight fame brings heat to the Killer Dolls, with jealousy, envy, and a dark secret threatening to destroy everything.
Nisa Santiago came bursting onto the literary scene in 2009 with her debut title, Cartier Cartel. The book garnered rave reviews and left her readers wanting more. She followed up with the sequel, Return of the Cartier Cartel – which turned into a national bestseller. The Library Journal declared that Santiago’s sequel, [Return of the Cartier Cartel] “Will keep readers hooked to the last chapter.”
Born and raised in Brooklyn, and now living in Harlem, the author is moving at full speed with her writing endeavors. Coined the Duchess of Hop-Hip lit, Santiago humbly admits, “I’m just grateful to be doing what I love as a career and not just a hobby.”
Her latest novel, Bad Apple – The Baddest Chick is slated for an October 2011 release date. The author emphatically states that her decision to start a new series instead of penning part 3 to Cartier Cartel was a brave one. “My readers love Cartier and they wanted more.” Santiago wants her readers to know that she has so many stories to tell and shows no signs of slowing down. Dirty Money Honey is an anthology with her peers, Erica Hilton and Kim K., Melodrama Publishing’s new trinity of authors.
I enjoyed this book. It was a quick read and it kept me interested. It lagged a little towards the end but I still enjoyed it. This was my first book by this author and it won't be the last.
This book was about Aoki, an American born Jamaican beauty with a cold heart. She gets her and her friends into the murder for hire game. We, the readers, watch as Aoki allows her coldness to control her. She's a fierce chick that cares about no one.
Three project girls decide to murder for a living. Tisa & Rihanna are sisters and Aoki are all poor project chicks. Aoki murdered her parents and her best friend AZ and the sisters helped hide the bodies. Now comes secrets and jealousy and they don’t mix well! On to part 2.
My first time reading work from this author and I can’t put her books down. This book had so much drama, twist and turns, it made my head spin (in a good way). Can’t way to finish reading the rest of the Killer Dolls series.
This was a great page turner of a book. I hadn't even made it to chapter one yet and I was reading about a 16 year old teenage girl watch her father stab her mother to death. Then she gets a knife and stabs him. It was time to be scared of her. The main character Aoki gets ready the next day as if nothing happened and the girl can fight in heels. I can't imagine what seeing one parent kill another could do to a person but she got something else deep going on inside her. Anyhow, after the murder she goes to a friend's house and then the movies while her parents' dead bodies are still there.
At 18, Aoki drops out of school. Her anger issues have not improved either. People in the neighborhood fear her. As a child, she was teased because of her Jamaican accent and appearance. At first she'd cry. Then she hardened herself and tried ignoring the teasing, which manifested her anger. Bullying is never right. It can really mess with a person mentally and then on top of that you still have to deal with whatever else life is throwing at you. Seeing her parents addicted to drugs on top of the bullying didn't help her either. She'd been arrested for fighting and the sergeant gave her a chance to prove that she could do better with her life. The sergeant and the cop she fought can tell that she is troubled but I don't think troubled is really the word to describe Aoki. She eventually lets her friends in on what happened with her parents. Her friend AZ comes up with the idea of purchasing two tin barrels and quicklime to keep the smell under control, since the ground was too hard to bury the bodies. Aoki never buried her parents though. the barrels were put in the backyard. "Every month, late in the night, she would go out and cover the bodies with quicklime to keep the smell contained and help preserve the remains". To provide for herself she gets into the drug game and becomes a contracted killer. She lets her two friend girls in on it and they become known as The Killer Dolls. Got an enemy? Contact the Killer Dolls and Aoki will definitely make sure the job gets done.
Overall this book was a 5 star read. This is the first book that I've read by Nisa Santiago but it definitely will not be my last. I loved her writing style and how she goes in depth with describing the characters and the lives they lead. The story is very well edited and put together. The story and characters take on a life of their own. Drama, jealously, secrets, greed, gunfire, knife fights - this story has it all.
I've Been A Big Fan From The First Book I Read By Her, But This Put Her On A Whole Other Level: Why, Everybody Had Hate For Aoki, She Only Acted A Plum Damn Fool Was For Money Purposes, Revenge For Self/Someone She Rocked With Ri-Ri, AZ, B Scientific And Maybe Hating Ass Tisa, But Gena's Devilish Ass Starting Shit With Brandi/B Scientific All Over Jealousy And Envy Is Having N@@@as On Her Ass.....War Cuz Aoki Ain't No Hoe With Hers, PERIOD 💯
Aoki and Az have a strong friendship/ love for each other but friendships can be tested. A lot of betrayal your friends can't trusted and the jealousy Gena is a piece of work. Will B Scientific find out what Brani and Gena is doing to him. Great Read on to part 2
Hello readers everywhere!! I see myself as a Reader and not a Reviewer. At times the words will fly from my thoughts to my fingers and there is no way of stopping them. Then, other times I struggle to the point of, "oh, forget it!!" It wasn't because my thoughts were negative, but just a "brain" malfunction; a short or long period of "writer's block." I do not claim to be a Political Correct speaker/person, so why should I write in a political correctness manner. If I offend anyone, it is NOT my intention. You do not need to read any further, but if you do, the disclaimer is out there.
First, I'm a white female in my early 60's, working as a L.S. in a public library, concentrating on RA, Reader's Advisory on particular Genras, one being, Urban Literature, in specific Street Lit, Hip hop, and the labels go on. In other words I'm the most unlikely person to know anything about what I'm reading. Wellll, that maybe so, but it doesn't stop me from learning, just not explaining with the correct words, or, terminology. "F--k," that, oops!!!
Back to, "Killer Dolls," by Nisa Santiago. If you are a Nisa Santiago fan, run out and get this book into your hands through your library, (and if they do not have it, ask them to do a possible purchase request," or an ILL,) or purchase your own copy!! This is the first out of a possible trilogy. You'll meet Aoki, whose life is full of all kinds of opportunities!! What are these opportunities?, I'm not telling!! I finished to the end, wanting to continue on to the next book in the series, but I have to wait until early 2016. Ms. Santiago, hurry with the next, "chapter," of Aoki's life!! I'm hanging here!!! L.D. signing off
Nisa Santiago never seems to disappoints. She is a great author. She had us Jamaicans down though & that made me proud. I personally know the injustices us Jamaicans suffer everyday & its so not cool. AZ really had me fooled but these are the signs of the times & you have to be careful. B Scientific I knew he was fucking Gena but Gena is the same type of bitches I'm related too, I have to face everyday & they make me sick. I'm itching to fuck her up. I'm ready for part two & thank you Nisa Santiago for all of your authenticity.
I read this book in 3 hours. Betrayal, undercover, death, killing, etc! I loved it all!! I definitely anticipate part 2. I hope it doesn't take long to release. #TEAMAOKI
It took me a while to finish this book but I'm glad I did Aoki has become my favorite female, I have never had that. But this was a great read I will be picking upset two
I enjoyed part 1 and 2 very much. I can't find part three. Is it out yet. Its displayed at the end of the book. I hate when I can't read all sagas at once.
