Sharon Pinsker has an amazing sense of light and form. this book will inspire an aspiring artist to think about what makes a great image. this book is not one of those how to draw books filled with slightly embarrassing images, Sharon's drawings are the real thing.

Her style is beautiful I just wish there was more 'guide' to this guide.

This is a wonderful addition to the artist's literary toolbox. Pinsker appeals to me as an artist as she begins every art piece by defining a deliberate purpose and meaning behind the art piece itself. The meaning of each piece defines the movement which defines the story behind the person or character she is creating. She's a master at creating specific moods through the smallest of hand-drawn gestures. She also has taken the time to truly study the anatomy of the human body in order to achieve realism in her art. This is a book that I will return to time and again for both practical and inspirational purposes.

As mentioned in a previous review, this is less of a "how to" set of instructions but rather a look at Sharon Pinsker's process in creating dynamic drawings including concept sketches as in between steps. Some sections focus particularly on techniques Pinsker often utilizes in her work.
I found this book to be an excellent collections of paintings and drawings that provide inspiration into how striking a single figure can be. That being said, good for visual learners, or someone who just wants to absorbs and then try a similar technique, less so for someone desiring step by step instructions.

Not as instructional or educational as the "how to" in the title implies. But despite the somewhat misleading title, it remains one of my favorite art books. Pinsker has great movement in her work, something that can be difficult. She offers some great tips on both actual drawing and on the workspace. Keeping a pinboard of inspirational objects and pictures, for example, has definitely been a great help for long projects. I highly recommend this book to artists interested in the human figure!
