Rainbow Reader RED: Awakening

Rate this book
Red: “Awakening”

This book includes content from the original, now super-secret manuscript, “Moments in Time: It is never too late to come out,” and has been modified, embellished and enhanced based on reader interest in the characters from the original series.

There is really only one moment in time we can cherish, that we remember through all of the good and bad times in our lives. If you can take that one moment of time and cherish it forever, it can bring joy where there is sorrow; happiness and hope where there is despair. This is a secret that we hold true to ourselves, to our hearts.

Sometimes you remember the first kiss, the first time you fell off your bike, and the person who was there to pick you up, or when you fell out of the tree, you remember who carried you bleeding to the hospital, or cleaned up your wounds and gave you encouragement and inspiration to go on.

But it is this secret you hold true deep down inside that you can sometimes forget. When all else fails, it was the one true thing that you were supposed to hold onto, it molds you into who you are, and who you will be. It helps you evaluate who you were, where you were, and gives you focus on who you want to become, and where you want to go.

“Red: Awakening” is the first in the Rainbow Reader series that reveals the sexual discovery, encounters and developing adventures that define the main character as he interacts with characters the readers wanted to know more about from the original Moments in Time series.

Enjoy the first in the Rainbow Reader series, “Red: Awakening.”

Writing was Adam's hobby. The voices in his head are constantly battling to get out, often leaving him working on four or five different books at once. He can't help but write. When he discovered he was actually good at writing, it became a full time passion that often interrupts his full time gig Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Along with his writing addiction he has a serious caffeine addiction. Some nights, the only reason he stops writing and goes to sleep is for the fresh brewed coffee in the morning. Teaching English in China, there are serious challenges living in a rural seaside holiday resort to find good coffee.

As an Author, Adam Stevens skillfully writes with a relevant, compelling and believable ability to articulate the emotional context of each character. He will captivate and engage you, in an addictive manner that will make you yearn for the next paragraph, page, chapter, and book.

As a Gay Romance Novelist, he has a brilliant magic with words that will draw you into his works with an almost addictive seduction. Each characters personality jumps off the page and into your heart.

Adam Stevens is a very unique writer, his books holding a uniquely personal feel that we find in very few books. It's like they're a type of fictional memoir, literally delivered to us as if we're reading the very pages of a young gay man's journal. It's 'real vibe' is truly captivating, the innocence of Georgie as he grows and experiments and comes of age as a bona fide gay male, so incredibly fascinating. An eroticism all its own. A must read for those who hold a special place in their heart for the gay man's plight. I know I do, so I loved it tremendously.

99 cent Quickie: Red “Awakening.” The first of the rainbow short reader series seemed simple enough to escape into on a cold, dark night. The price was right, the cover stimulating and the preview gave just enough away that I needed to start this series. Georgie Porgie is quite a character filled with a dark past of bullying at school, torment and abuse at the hands of his parents, and a serious misconception about what ‘love’ actually is all about. He discovered his sexuality “Awakening” in high school with a boy named “Raul.” The simplicity of the scenes were well thought out and flowed. The dialogue was real. It was almost if I was in the scene overhearing these conversations. I could visualize the descriptive images. Especially the sexual discovery scenes. Raul was his first love lost after graduation.
The story evolves dramatically as he meets “Chris,” and as they begin to develop a serious relationship, Georgie is torn by the ‘need’ for sexual attention to overcome his real desire of the love that lacks in his life.
The chronology continues, if you haven’t already become emotionally attached to Georgie at this point, chapter three will send you over the top in an almost addictive manner as he meets up with “Bob,” forges a business alliance and shares another love, which leads to sex, and eventually loss. A seriously obvious flaw in Georgies character, well written so that you feel his pain along his journey.
Finally the last chapter, homeless, lost and abandoned, “Gary” acts as his savior, but just as you think Georgie will get his first ‘Happily Ever After,’ life gets in the way and he endures a tragic break up fleeing his home, job, boyfriend and family.
I can relate to this last chapter so much at one point in my life that somewhere the author should have written, “Be careful what you wish for. Once you have it, you might not know what to do with it.” The author certainly has a well-developed character, a relevant timeline set in the 80’s with an ability to not only set the scene so that you are aware of the setting, he can most certainly describe sexual experiences.
I read the book in about 2 hours, but had to take a short break as I was emotionally attached to one scene that deeply affected my heart. I wanted to reach in the book and wrap Georgie in my arms and just tell him, “It gets better,” or “It’s not your fault.”
I have the next book on pre order, but that won’t be out until New Year’s Eve. So I bought his other book, Moments in Time: It is never too late to start over.
I look forward to reading more of Georgie in upcoming books. Problem is, I can relate to Georgie and his impulses. I want to read the next story NOW!

Loved

I loved this story. I ached for Georgie, in fact I cried for him. But I’m hopeful he’ll find his way and pray he’ll find his special someone. I’ll definitely read the rest of the series although I wish I could find the Pink book where it all started.

While I’m not sure I’d call this a “Quickie Read” as it has been labeled, it is a short story packed full of memories; some good, some bad, but all defining moments. The story is laid out in fragments of experiences and of people who are key in this Coming-Of-Age, and maybe more importantly, key in this Coming-To-Be.

I did not read an introduction to the life of Georgie as a confused young man. I think Georgie knew himself quite well. I read moments in the life of a young man who knew where he wanted to fit in, but sometimes, not how to fit there and be true the budding man he knew himself to be. I read moments in the life of a young man who, despite an horrific home life and a tortuous path at school, took and kept control of ‘Georgie’ as he wanted him to be. I read moments in the life of a lonely young man still with the strength of character to explore all he was and all he wanted to be.

As with any Coming Of Age tale there are the requisite sexual explorations, which while many and varied, were much more impactful in terms of his emotional and mental place. This was more than the sexual awakening of gay man in an uptight world. This was as much about the awakening to life in general and pursuing that life, obstacles be damned. This was about living in the moment, taking all the experiences and allowing them to be part of his moulding; not a passive living by any means, but an accepting one. An open one. One that embraced life-opportunities in all forms.

I liked the insightfulness of the story and the storyteller. It was genuine and upbeat in spite of painful experiences and unfair obstacles for anyone, never mind a young person. Simply put, while a short story in words, it was long on heart and spirit, and I enjoyed being let in on the journey.

I struggled with this authors writing style from the last book The Secret Manuscript. The beginning of his books feels like a self help book. What to do and not do. And how to do it.
It was also kind of confusing. I felt like it was the author's personal message and not the characters.

Jumping into chapter one..
I felt the switch. And I'm back into Georgie's world. And back into his story.
I really felt bad for Georgie. He was trying to figure out who he was. He wanted to be needed and loved by someone. He wanted someone to want him... The way he wanted them.
At times it was hard to read. It felt like he gave a little of himself away with each person he was with. And I would say he was with quite a few! He settled with what these other guys would give him. He knew it would never go anywhere. But he was starving for affection.

I felt bad about his home situation. His mother was a horrible person. And just did the most hateful things to Georgie. He never felt at home at home. I think that's why he wanted someone to love and be loved back. Because he didn't have the most loving parents that he craved. And he just went looking for it in all the wrong places.

I think it took a toll out of Georgie everyone he gave himself to these other boy. Then for them to turn around and just leave him without even looking back. It broke him. It sent him each and every time into this mini depression. I felt so bad for him.

Even though it takes me awhile to get into this authors books. I can honestly say that I'm invested in Georgie's story and I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Rainbow Reader RED: Awakening by Adam Stevens

I always enjoy reading material from authors I am unfamiliar with, but was delighted with my accidental discovery of Adam Stevens and his Rainbow Reader series this week.

As a first in series book, 'Red:Awakening' was the perfect introduction to George and his journey along the path from abusive and less than happy family-life to self-discovery, self-awareness and self-acceptance as the independent young gay man he is learning how to be. Yes, there are some explicit moments, but the story would have been lessened and harder to relate to without them. Through his sexual encounters George is coming to understand himself and the people in the world around him; learning along the way about the emotional dangers of mistaking attraction for the loving connection he is craving.

As a new devotee to this genre, and a hopeless romantic at heart, I was swept along with George and at times felt as though I was taking the journey with him. Best of all, he made me feel welcome and the passages containing his thought really did feel like he was talking directly to me about what he was going through at the time.

Adam's personal style of writing drew me in and held me captive until the last page and left me searching for the next Reader in the series to continue the journey with George in 'Orange: Flourish and Flings'.

For anyone thinking about purchasing and reading 'Red: Awakening' - don't hesitate, get one-click happy and dive right on in ... you won't regret it!

I really liked this. This read more like a memoir than fiction. Realistic, relatable and descriptive, this book was a pleasure to read. I was readily absorbed into this journey of sexual identification and self discovery.

This is the first book in a series of shorts which expand and expound on book one of the author's "Moments in Time" series. I've had Book Two on my tbr shelf for a while but didn'T start it because I had trouble finding book One...until I realized you can get the expanded and revised version through the "Rainbow Reader" shorts, which are available as individually or as a bundle.

Definitely planning to read the rest of the "Rainbow Reader" series as well as proceeding on to the full length novel "It'S Never Too Late to Start Over"

Recommended for a great M/M read with a dose of realism.

I really enjoyed this introduction to a gay fiction series. As the book description indicates, the story focuses on one character’s (Georgie) sexual awakening. Of course that makes some of the story explicit, but it also has a very strong plot development outside of the sexual encounters. I thought it was a very erotic and engaging look into Georgie’s life. It really kept me interested in the story—so much so that I ready the book in one sitting. It’s going to be really interesting to follow the characters in this series in the next book.

Awakening, feels more like a journal of a young man's journey in discovery who he really is in life. Each chapter a new experience in life that helps him to transform further into the person he is meant to be. The book while it is written in a journal style, it's timeline flows nicely from beginning to end. The end of book, is not the true end, it leaves off to be carried on in the next book. It ends with not so much a cliffhanger, as a opened ended, ending. I can't wait to read the next installment in Georgie's coming of age story.

I loved writing this book, The first in the series written as a Prequel to the "Moments in Time series." I hope you can grasp the emotional tragedy, character and sexual development of mistaking 'love' for sex as the series continues. Always open to positive feedback and critical analysis discussions. So this is classed as a "short quick read" but it didn't feel like a short read at all. Really was amazing and my heart went out to Georgie on so many occasions. Fantastic story can't wait to carry on reading Georgie's story in the next installment

3.5 stars.🌟 A young Georgie and life experiences.

3.5 stars.🌟 An okay story of Georgie growing up and finding himself.  Life isn't nice at home but he finds love in his brief hookups and friendships.  Various partners show him how to love.  Georgie admits he's lost but there might be someone to rescue him.  A great ending. A fast paced story but no real connection with other characters, but Georgie is still young yet.
Georgie meets Raul in Latin class and they form a special freindship but life intervenes again. (KU read)

I have no words. What a well-done book! It was a very quick read, and I loved it. The main character went through so much, and it was so powerful. Like witnessing what was going on with the character all throughout. A man going through a journey on experimenting on what it means to be in love. a man who turns out to be gay and what he goes through for wanting love. Well done on the writing. I want more from this author.

This was a short quick read that was a coming of age story. Georgie who was bullied in school is finding himself in each chapter of this book. This was my first time reading this author. This book had some issues with editing.

Good read.

Quick read. A great coming of age book with a few laughing out loud parts and some crying parts. Could use some editing but over all it was a good story.
