Darth Vader battles his replacements under the close eye of the Emperor, and later learns the identity of a certain Rebel pilot that blew up the Death Star.
Creepiest cover ever, Emperor Palpatine looks like he will sexually molest the reader, but Darth Vader looks like he is stalking Palpatine to kill him because he wants to murder the reader instead lol Actually the cover is perfect, Palpable looks creepy most of the time he needs to not show teeth. And Darth Vader looks defeated, constrained, maybe angry as well. And it's Darth Vader's emotions that make this perfect. Maybe it's perfect too because Palpatine looks like a manipulative asshole.
Confession: I didn't like the first 6 movies of star wars, but the last 3 movies by Adam Driver blew me away, they were soooo good, he is such a great actor, for me he carried the movie by himself. The first 3 movies I like more than the second 3 movies. I watched the first 3 at a time when I could still manage my time like a sane person, I don't remember much of them. The second three though, even though I watched them 5 years ago maybe more I don't remember them at all. I don't know why, I just googled Padme and surprise surprise she was Natalie Portman who I love (As a great actress) so, I should have remembered her lead role but I didn't, or that she was betrothed to Darth Vader but I didn't! Or that she is the mother of his children, but I didn't!
It's memory you remember what you think is important, and will, it forgot those movies.
But for someone who didn't like the first 6 movies so much, I actually have the capacity to obsess with star wars. I discovered in the last few years of my life that I love space! I love it so much! It's my favorite games now, take me to the stars and I am happy exploring planets and new creatures and new races. That's why starting this series I thought, hey! It's a space opera (Thanks Rain for explaining what that means) if you enjoy this, it means it's not just games, it carries over to books too, so another branch of books to immensely enjoy. I already knew I loved actual real life space too, my youtube is littered with those videos. But if I end up liking star wars comics it will open up over 500 comics at least to read for me. I know I talked too much and not much about the story, but this is significant for me. Fun times coming.
The best in the series so far. The first half was all action where Darth Vader fights these apprentice "Vader replacements" the emperor prepares just in case Vader fails again. It was kind of a dick move by the emperor but everything was justified (conveniently) as the ways of the dark side of the Force.
The second half was gold, a classic comics scene where Vader learned that the one who destroyed the Death Star was his very own son. This is something that culminated in what all of us knew, the "I am your father" scene in Episode V. Flashback panels straight from the movie (Episode III) are abundant here. The emotions behind the mask are effectively shown to us through words and actions, both subtle and obvious.
The Boba Fett scene puts the sweet golden glaze in this issue. It was the first time Vader learned about the mysterious Force-strong man who destroyed the Death Star. Just read this issue and you will know what I am saying.
Hmm... The end is interesting but the rest is "meh". I was excited about this series after reading the first issue, and again when they introduced Aphra, but I feel like not enough has been happening to keep me buying the single issues.
Absolutely amazing. This series has been great so far. I thought it was losing its way when they introduced the way to mouthy Dr. Arpha character-the fact that Vader didn't choke her to death shows his patience-but the last few issues have been awesome. I truly liked the conversation between the Emperor and Vader about the way of the Sith. Its truly excellent and encapsulates their mantra- One to rule and one to serve as apprentice. When the Apprentice is strong enough, he kills the master and becomes the Master and finds a new apprentice. It is the way of power and strength. The epitome of the dark side of the force. Well done. Oh and the artwork in this series is consistently great.
Solo tengo que decir que este número es fantástico. Qué buen detalle han tenido al crear esos espacios que no se ven en la película y aquí han hecho que tu mente conecte todo, provocando al lector una emoción al leerlo. ¡¡Qué final!! Buenísimo.
This one and the latest Star Wars cross path, and in a great way. They both seem to end at the same spot, which is brilliant. The whole story is brilliant. I can't believe I'm speaking so highly about Star Wars.
Besides the last few pages I was again very unimpressed by this issue. This secret trained crew ordered by the Emperor really is an abomination. Mon Calamari meshed into a General Grievous exoskeleton, really?!

Finished reading this series with my daughter (10) Olivia-Grace. She loved them. Loved the Dr. Aphra character (comparing her to my other daughter, [8] Lily - and amazingly pretty aptly so). She loves that there's an evil version of R2/C3PO but that they are basically mirrors to how good R2 and 3PO are.
This was a pretty good wrap-up issue to the other 5 volumes. Tied things in nicely with the reveal at the end and how Vader reacts to it, some nice setup work for ESB and ROTJ.
The Calamari on General Grievous's cyborg was pretty ridiculous though, and thats pretty much the biggest detraction from the entire thing. It honestly resembles a Goldfish head on a walking robot body. (And for some reason I feel like I've seen this somewhere else in pop-culture, but not sure where.)
This is probably the lowest rated Vader comic for me thus far I do believe, with everything else being labeled as a 4 or a 5.
I feel like the right idea was there, all the pieces were on the board to make an amazing play, but there was just something off about it all.
Maybe I just wasn't feeling the 'diet-Vader' wannabe substitutes Palpatine was moonlighting behind Vader's back? That's probably it. Again, I think this had immense potential and the idea is great... but ultimately was overall weak and left feeling let down.
I'm sure that it will all work out and come together. Even still, Vader's anger at the end solidifies a solid 3 stars for sure.
This review will be the same for Darth Vader, Volumes 1-6 & Skywalker Strikes, Volumes 1-6.
I picked up these comics at the library. I spent about 30 minutes with each one. They are fun. I think the stories mesh well with the films. These volumes need read in order as Vader and Luke are characters in each and the timeline only makes sense if they are read chronologically. I enjoyed most of the artwork, the one exception being Han, the artist just didn't quite capture Harrison Ford. Right now our library only has these volumes, when and if more arrive I will read them as well.
It's pretty good. 🤙 Most of this feels like we're going under the hood of a story and trying to implant more nuance. Some of that destroys the mystery but come on- who doesn't wanna see the moment Darth Vader realizes he has a son? That's a pretty cool idea and I think it was handled fine. Only bummer was that they killed a Trandoshen. 💔 *sigh* I love Trandoshens and think they need more love.

Great finish to an interesting story. I would like to see more of this get written because it introduces some cool characters. Hoping for more sometime soon.
We open up with Vader taking on wave after wave of the enhanced individuals giving out a bit of damage here and there while taking very little himself. However, the battle ends when one of the lightsaber wielders strikes down the advanced lizardman who was attacking Vader.
The man who did it thinks that Vader owes him one, but Vader lets him know that the lizardman’s death was his to deliver and Vader will bring it around to him in due course.
The Emperor calls off the fight and is displeased that they could not defeat Vader. Vader questions his motives and The Emperor gets upset with him telling him to know his place and that if these people can defeat him than he no longer deserves to be at his side.
Back with Vader’s Vandals, Dr. Aphra tries to pump a little info from him, but Vader is not in the mood. However, things change quickly when he is told that Boba Fett has returned. He does not have the pilot with him, but he has discovered his name… Skywalker.
Darth almost immediately starts putting the pieces together, realizing that the boy is his son and that The Emperor had been lying to him for years. Vader is enraged and calls The Emperor who he re-states his loyalty too.
Afterwards, he stand, shaking in anger, causing microfractures to the glass window of the ship as he decides that he will have his son and they will rule the galaxy together.
Wow, such a huge moment in the history of Star Wars. This is it. This is the moment that Vader knew that Luke was his son. It was cool that Fett was the one to in a way bring him the information.
Also, the beginning fight was cool, and the dialogue with The Emperor was pretty crazy.
Overall a great issue with such a huge moment in it. These books appear to be really solid on their own, but to have moments like this to mine is what is going to really take them next level.
I have no idea where the next issue is going to go, and I don’t care. I trust them now.
Darth Vader defeats the machinations constructed by Cylo with the supervision of Darth Sidious since Vader became a cyborg. This has, understandably, upset Vader, who is now forced to work with a group of the emperor's minions, including Mon Calimari cyborg commander Karbin (whose design was inspired by General Grievous according to Cylo). The end of this issue contains the ending of Star Wars #6; Boba Fett informs Vader that the pilot who blew up the Death Star is named Skywalker. As evidenced by flashbacks to Revenge of the Sith, my guess about Vader being angry at Sidious is correct. We see Sidious delivering the news about Padme: "I'm afraid she died. It seems in your anger...you killed her." (Interestingly, the first sentence does not appear in the film itself but appears in the novelization.) Vader then contacts Sidious, informing him that he will not fail him. I just love how Vader's realization that he has a son has reinvigorated him with power. Now he has enough hatred to inspire him to take down the emperor. The last page indicates that Vader will go to the burnt up Lars homestead, and I am eager to witness his reactions. Will he feel sorry for Owen and Beru? Or does he resent them for not doing enough to save his mother?

- The things that the emperor has been doing is crazy! He is psycho!
- I love the moment when Darth Vader learns that Luke is his son. It is such a moment of turmoil for him, and I think the comic does a great job portraying his anger and pain.
Well If in the latest issues I was satisfied with the course of the story this far I need to say that with this one I got super pleased! The plot reached a turning point...Vader knows he has a son! And also he starts to have a glimpse on how Palpatine really sees him and the manipulation he used to help Anakin to do his dirty work! Let's see how it unfolds!
