Good book about two people whose past hurts keep them from wanting to risk their hearts again. Mike is the widowed father of a three year old boy. The death of his wife hit him hard and he doesn't want to go through anything like that again. Savannah was engaged to a man who didn't bother to tell her he doesn't want kids until she gets pregnant. Devastated by the realization that she hadn't really known the man she thought she loved, she breaks their engagement and leaves home to go visit her aunt in California.

Mike and Savannah meet during a rainstorm where Mike and his son Scotty have pulled into a gas station to wait out the downpour. Savannah pulls in because her car is making noises and just as she stops the engine erupts into flames. Mike puts the fire out and invites Savannah to stay at his ranch until her car is fixed. He even tells her she can call the local sheriff for a reference if she needs one. She accepts his offer, hoping it will just be for a couple days.

Neither of them expected the strength of the attraction between them. Savannah insists that they do not give in to it, as she is still healing from her previous relationship and doesn't want to make another mistake. Mike doesn't want another relationship either, but feels that they can enjoy each other without making an emotional commitment.

Because it will take time for her car repair, Savannah ends up staying longer than she expected. She started getting really attached to Scotty and liked taking care of him when Mike had to be out on the ranch. She also began developing feelings for Mike as she got to know him better, realizing that he's nothing at all like her ex. She has to keep reminding herself that she isn't staying and that she's not ready to risk her heart again. But she also finds it very easy to give in to his kisses and doesn't trust herself to be able to keep her heart protected.

Mike bugged me a little bit. He knows he doesn't want a commitment and that Savannah is still hurting from her previous relationship. She has told him repeatedly that giving in to their attraction would be a bad idea. But he keeps finding excuses to kiss her and every time he pushes for more, trying to convince her that they can keep their emotions out of it. However, even though he can't deny that his actions may cause her more hurt, he keeps doing it. It does come back to bite him though, as he discovers that being with Savannah has begun to change him more than he expected.

A medical crisis with her pregnancy delays Savannah's departure, and also brings Mike to the conclusion that he has lost his heart to her after all. Both he and Savannah have to find a way to let go of their past hurts if they want to have a chance to have a future together. I liked the way it worked out for them.

Scotty was an adorable little boy and had a big part in bringing Mike and Savannah together. My biggest issue with him was that he did not talk or act like a child just turning three. He was way too articulate and able to be reasoned with. I thought he was more like a five year old.

Scotty stole my heart from the very beginning. Scotty is soon to be three years old. His mother died when he was one. I just loved the way he always said yes sir, or no sir when asked a question. He lived on a big Texas ranch with his dad Mike.
Savannah found out the hard way that her fiancé wanted kids in 15 years or maybe never, when she told him she was expecting. Savannah loved kids. She was a neonatal nurse. His response was to ask her to terminate the pregnancy. Savannah was afraid of what her brothers would do to him, if they ever found out the truth as to why she broke up with the loser. So she packed up her car and headed to California to stay with her aunt for a little while.

On the highway, Savannah's car started making a awful sound. She pulled into a gas station that was closed. A truck was parked under the awning waiting out the worst of the storm. She got out of her car, and Mike got out of his truck to see if she needed help. He didn't recognize her and knew she was not from his small Texas town. Her car started shooting out flames. Mike worked quick to put out the flames. It started hailing, and he knew snow, and sleet would soon follow. He invited her to stay with him, and his son. I loved the way, he offered to call the sheriff for a character reference. She meet Scotty in the back seat, and the two bonded right away.

They made it to the ranch. Throughout the night, it snowed, making all roads in the small Texas town impassible. Savannah, and Mike enjoyed getting to know one another. She read books to Scotty before he fell asleep at night. She didn't know who would be the hardest to leave, when her car was fixed. Mike or Scotty.

This was a very sweet romance. I loved all the characters, the story line, and the pace of the story itself. This book was so hard to put down, that I just couldn't do it. I stayed up to 3 am just to finish it. This is one that is going onto my favorite's list to be read again later on.

At the rancher's Request by Sara Orwig is a modern western. Savanna's car engine caught on fire. Mike Calhoun had his son Scotty with him when he ran into Savannah Grayson. His son is almost 3. Mike grabbed a fire extinguisher and put out the fire. He offered to take her home to his ranch to wait tip her car was repaired. The station was closed for the night. The rain turned to sleet and ice, then snow.8 inches. He told Savannah she may have to extend her stay. The bridge was almost washed away. Mike's foreman Ray and his crew were prepared for the worst. Savannah found a ring in the dirt and snow near the bridge. After the snow stopped it started to snow again. Savannah volunteered to watch Scotty so Mike could work on the ranch.

Ish. This book was not my jam. Luckily, I was able to "read" it in an afternoon. By "read," I mean that I skimmed a lot of this book because it felt like the same conversations/thoughts were happening over and over again. I fully recognize that there's only so much two people can do when they're (kind of) snowed in together, but...dang. There's also a subplot that seems mildly intriguing, but doesn't find any significance in the overall plot. If the book had been longer, there's a lot that could have been developed. I will say that the main characters' internal struggles were very real, and that's what kept me skimming until the end.

D2361 Mar15 Lone Star Legends #3 I've enjoyed this series and look forward to more. Savannah Grayson has car trouble and is rescued by rancher Mike Calhoun. His son Scotty is almost three, his wife died 2yrs ago. Savannah finds a gold ring in the creek mud and his sister tells her that means good luck. Her health emergency makes Mike realize how important Savannah has become, how much he loves her.

I wish the times I broke down it would have turned out like this!! Savannah dodged a bullet bu seeing just what kind of person her ex was and running away to California. Mike was able to open his heart after losing the love of his life to cancer and now, they will have their HEA. Little Scotty stole my heart in this story. Hope there is a story for Lindsey now she deserves some happiness.

You ever start reading a romance book and by the time you hit the 5th page you are not only hooked but captivated? Well that's exactly what happened to me when I started reading Sara Orwig's Harlequin Desire " At The Rancher's Request". I mean I was literally baited and reeled in in a matter of 5 pages, not just by the storyline , the hero (Mike Calhoun) or the heroine (Savannah Grayson)but by the hero's 2 year old little boy (Scotty Calhoun) as well.
I mean how could anyone not fall in love with the big strong widower from Texas who lost his wife to cancer but was still the most loving , caring and compassionate father, brother and friend to those around him?
or the sweet neonatal nurse who was kicked to curb and told to abort her child by her fiancee right before the wedding? who was willing to move away from her family and friends in Arkansas to start a new life for herself and her unborn child in California?
But Ultimately for me it was precious little Scotty who wrapped everyone around him around his little finger and melted your heart. Seeing how easy he came to love Savannah as he and his daddy opened their homes and their hearts to Savannah after they rescued her from her car fire to him crying his heart out at seeing her pack up her belongs to leave them in order to continue on with her original plans of relocating to California. He literally had me tearing up as he begged and cried for her to stay... you could feel his little heart breaking along with Savannah and Mike's as they realized they had fallen in love but were too afraid to admit it and chance having their hearts broken again.
You couldn't help but hope for them to figure out that the chance at love was worth any risk that they took .
Would the realize the truth before it was too late or would Mike let the woman who had stolen both his heart and his sons drive out of their lives?
Definitely a fun filled but emotionally packed romance worth reading by the fabulous Sara Orwig!
This ones is worth reading because it not only steals your heart, it keeps it!

At the Rancher's Request was a quick and enjoyable read for me. The book was well-written and included strong characters. Savannah and Mike meet under unusual circumstances when a blizzard hits and Savannah's car catches fire. He has no choice but to take her home with him. Soon, they both realize they need each other. You can definitely feel the passion between Savannah and Mike and I love the interactions between her and Scotty. I did have trouble recognizing Scotty as an almost three year old though. His manners and vocabulary made me feel as if he was more like 5, but that didn't make me love this story any less. Great book with great characters.

At The Rancher's Request by Sara Orwig. Mike Calhoun and his son are waiting at a little store for the rain to let up. In comes a car with smoke coming from under the hood. Pregnant Savannah Grayson could hardly see where she was going in the hard rain when she saw the lights of another vehicle. She is leaving her home town to go visit her aunt in California. Mike invites Savannah to stay at his ranch until the bvad weather blows over. It turns into freezing rain and then snow a couple days later. No way can she leave. Attraction happens between to two adults. Mike 3 year old son also likes Savannah. A lot goes on in this book. A good read.

This book repeated the same things over and over again. Her car, they don't want commitment, should she sleep with him or not. I found myself skimming to get to new material.
