I struggled through four acts of a five-actplay. I could not continue. The problem is not the play itself. It seems like a delights when acted on stage. I saw a teaser video of the play on YouTube and just knew I would enjoy reading the play. I was wrong.

The play is a play and not a novel, so I had difficulty when stage traditions of the 18th century and the novel traditions that I am familiar with do not match up.

Maybe someday I will have an opportunity to watch the play performed on stage or on YouTube.

Read from Eighteenth-Century Women Dramatists edited by Melinda Finberg.

I love Restoration plays, I really do, but I always struggle to rate the reading of them highly because I just get so confused with all the characters! I'm sure this would be great on stage.
